We welcome Three Kings to Memorial park this week for the main games.

I didn’t see last week games at Ellerslie, but by all the accounts given to me very interesting both on and off the field.

Today’s match won’t be easy but I am looking forward to another improvement to keep us on track for the season.

To the other teams within the club, I hope to catch up with your games as I did on Sunday with our Division Two Ladies. Great to see a mix of age groups, with some new faces in the team. Reminder about the ladies social. Check the notice boards, time and date.

To all teams, thank you for your support with the difficulties we currently face with training facilities. Hopefully we can relax these when the ground works are complete and the ground conditions improve.

BARRY HUMMELS MEMORIAL DAY

On 2 June, we are holding the annual Barry Hummels Memorial Match here at the club. The game was first held as a Testimonial Match on 20 September 1997 – one of the last times Barry was here at the club. It was a match where many players who had been coached or managed by Barry came together to play in his honour. Sadly, he passed away 10 weeks after the game.

The following year, the game was held as a Memorial Match in loving memory of Barry and all he had done here at the club over many years. It is an event which we not only remember Barry but also other club members who have passed away.

Come down on the day, game kicks off at 1pm. It is a good time to catch up with some old faces from the past.

Bar and kitchen will be open. Reserve Coaches Comments

Hi and welcome to both of the Three Kings sides and their supporters.

Today isn't going to be any easier for our side as we come from a loss on the weekend against Ellerslie 3-2 and we know how difficult Three Kings can be.

The game against Ellerslie was a close affair but the result probably reflected a fair one as they were a good side and dominated for most of the game even though we went up 1-0 inside 5 minutes. We gave away 2 soft goals but were probably unlucky not to pinch a draw in the last couple of minutes as Dylan Tate fired just over the top of the crossbar.

Its been a reasonable start for us as we come to terms with the quality of opposition and with such a young squad, Manurewa can only benefit from this. I wish all Manurewa sides success this weekend and hopefully both top Manurewa sides can steal the points today.

It’s been a tough start to the season so far with a couple of losses. Obviously not how we wanted to start and certainly not how we intend on continuing.

Our last match was a night match away to Ellerslie on their new all weather tiger turf. In principle playing the matches on a Saturday night seems like a good idea for crowd support. We will see how this pans out in the middle of the winter on a dark raining cold night. The feedback from our players on the surface was differing. Will be interesting to see what sort of advantage Ellerslie gain by training and playing on this surface weekly while other teams have to adapt on the day. While we feel slightly aggrieved with the sending off of Matt Francis (check out the You tube clip), causing us to play 70 odd minutes with 10 men, we again showed our inexperience prior to the sending off by going a goal down early in the match. It will be a long season if we have to chase every game, so we need to have the right mindset and work rate from the first whistle instead of going a goal down before we get going.

Today we welcome Graeme, Neil and the Three Kings boys to Memorial Park. After going on a spending spree a couple of seasons ago, they have continued to do well and firmly cemented their place in the premier league. Like ourselves Three Kings have had a tough start to the season and will be targeting today’s match as a 6 pointer.

Our boys have been working hard in training and always enjoy playing in front of our infamous support crew. It will be a good hard-fought game and we should need no further motivation to get buzzing from the start as we play one of the top clubs in the league.

Hi All

Well the season has started hope all players are fit and well.

First things first with the state of the weather all players and coaching staff will just have to be patient with us until the fields are fit enough to train on. So players hit the roads to keep fit if the fields are closed.

Our Assyrian star side are our only unbeaten side so far this season even if its only 2 draws their first was a 3-3 against Central and after their first home game they had a 1-1 draw. If you get a chance to watch them come down and watch them they play some very nice football. This week they are away to Western Springs.

The Div 3 side have had 2 loses in there first 2 weeks. Close losses with a only a goal between them and the opposition. This week they are at home to Uni Mount and with Duncan in charge the boys will be pulling out all the stops to get a result.

Our over 30s side have had 2 loses to start there season as well their first a very ugly 6-1 defeat but they had a much better result even though they lost 2-1 the boys were a lot happier with the way they played than the previous week. This week they are also away to Western Springs.

Brian's U19s side have had a lose first up then they had a win against our local rivals Papatoetoe 2-0. This week they are at home to Oratia and this will be another test for them as they are undefeated in their last 2 games.

Have a good weekend everyone and get those FEES in please.

Cheers Gigsy Ladies Report

The last few weeks the ladies have played Bay Olympic and Fencibles which are two very strong teams. The biggest challenger we have this season is not having a goal keeper so playing strong teams is always going to be hard. A massive thanks goes out to Robyn and Vada who have so far volunteered to go in for us.

Bay Olympic was our first match up which was a great game, hard fought by both teams and could have gone either way until we gave away a penalty with a well taken free kick. We were down one nil and with our ladies hitting the post a couple of times and having it just clear the crossbar, thats where the game finished up.

Next up we had Fencibles which was always going to be an arm wrestle of a match. Fencibles is a very young fit side who I am sure will do very well in the coming seasons. My ladies stepped up and played well, apart from the two lapses in concentration that lead them to scoring twice. Lucky for us we have Caitlin and Renae who clawed us back into the game with two great goals. I think that game had a fair result.

Injuries are now plaguing the side and it's only game three! Vada and Renae—we hope you are rested up and on the mend.

We have Onehunga Mangere up the mountain this week which will be another see-saw battle.

Don't forget to grab a ticket to our club fundraiser for the 4th of May. We promise it will be a great night, always is! See any of the ladies for tickets and information. Posters are also up around the clubrooms.

Good luck to the Ressies, first team, and everyone else this week.

Stevie Youth Report

Hi everyone

Two weeks into the season and the weather has finally given us some relief to the drought but caused some disruptions to trainings during the week.

We have several teams doing well after two games which is great to see. A coupe of teams are struggling due to a shortage of players. If you know of any 11 year olds wanting to play, we have a few places available. Last Saturday one of our 13th grade players dislocated his knee during a match on Memorial Park which has put him out for 6 months. We wish him a speedy recovery.

On a brighter note, our 11th grade Lightning and 11th Grade Bullets attended the Hamilton North Pre Season Tournament last weekend. The day began in foggy conditions but improved during the morning. The Bullets won 2, drew 1 and lost 3 and made it to the plate semi final. The Lightning went through unbeaten scoring 16 goals and conceding only 1. Well done to both teams.

Best of luck to Hoani, Nathan and the boys today.
