Hi Welcome to all Bay Olympic players and supporters. After stumbling in recent games in the last couple of weeks , the reserve side is determined to get their season back on track this week. We had a draw (1-1) last week against Waitakere and a loss (2-1) to East Coast Bays the week before, but could have pinched the points if we hadn't conceded goals from silly mistakes and had finished the chances that we created. Putting a positive spin on things, we are playing some attractive football at times but need to learn to concentrate for the full 90 minutes. Also, we had no first team players last week so the bench players had to lift their game and to their credit they did. To all the Manurewa teams, good luck this weekend and lets go down to Hamilton next weekend with our seasons back on track. Steve

Today we welcome Shane Knowles and his Bay Olympic team to Memorial Park. Bay Olympic have been the standard to achieve for the clubs in this league for the last two seasons. They currently find themselves in the bottom half of the table but our boys know that this league position is not a reflection of the quality they have in their squad. And knowing Knowlsey, he will have his lads fizzing for today’s match.

We are coming off the back of a draw against the bottom side in the league, Waitakere City. While we were gutted with not picking up the 3 points we were happy to gain our first clean sheet of the season. And although we would have liked the win we did show a little steel at the end of the match to get the draw with some resolute defending and goalkeeping. Earlier in the season we may have conceded and lost this game so in the end the point we gained was pleasing.

Each week I seem to be telling the boys that its like a cup final. But this is the mentality we need to take into matches until we claw our way out of the relegation zone.

Thanks once again to our loyal support crew.

Cheers H and Nath

The Assyrian star side have a had 2 wins and a loss the wins against Papatoetoe and Ellerslie and a loss to Fencibles and the boys are currently sitting 4th.

The Div 3 side have had 3 losses and are currently sitting in 8th and with a bottom of table clash this week , Duncan and his boys will be looking for 3 points against Onehunga Mangere.

The new Div 9 side with a mixture of U19s and senior players are now 2 from 2 which is very good to see. After 2 games the boys are sitting 5th and this week they are playing Papakura.

The over 30s have had a loss and a draw there first point coming against Fencibles last week and this week they have Mt Albert Ponsonby the boys are sitting 7th.

Our U19s have had 2 wins and a draw and this week they are playing Onehunga Sports and Brians boys are sitting 7 equal and are looking good for the top half after grading is finished.

Thanks Giggsy Ladies Report

The last couple of weeks we have had a loss against Clendon, a cancellation, a loss against Western Springs and we have a bye this weekend.

The game against Western Springs last week was always going to be a hard one. The ladies opted for a new formation and a few players in new positions which if we work on it will work wonders for us in our next game. But with Kath holding the middle for us and putting in through balls for us Renae and Sarah working well up front, we were just unable to put any of our chances away and a couple of mistakes in defence just cost us 2 goals and we just couldn't bring it back.

I would like to thank everyone that showed up to our dress up party a few weeks ago it was good to see everyone dressed up and having a good time. (See pictures on the inside back page.)

Good luck to Brody and the Ressies and Troy and the first team and every other Manurewa teams playing over the weekend.

Youth Report

Hi everyone

Welcome back to Memorial Park after two away games for our Premier team.

During these two weeks we had one round of games and last weekend saw a complete round of postponed games due to the weather. These games will now be played next weekend, 1 June to complete our grading rounds.

We have three teams who are unbeaten prior to this mornings games with a good chance of earning promotion into higher levels of their grades. Our girls teams are stuggling and could do with the help of a few extra players. So if anyone knows of any girls wanting to play, please contact Paul Hill [email protected].

The decision to trial the Youth Player of the Day and Youth Draw at the new time of 3—3.15pm after the Juniors has seen a great improvement in the number of Youth Player of the Days coming up to the club. It is good to see players and their families using the facilities on offer.

Best of luck to all youth teams for the last game of the grading round. The new competition draws will be available on line around 6 June.

Good luck to Hoani, Nathan and the team and also the Reserves today.

Laurette Hummels Youth Chairperson

YOUTH PLAYER OF THE DAYS Register downstairs from 2.30pm. Prizegiving and Youth Draw will be done directly after the Juniors between 3 and 3.15pm so don't move away.

Junior Report

Introducing the 10th Grade Cougars

The team is a great bunch of soccer mad kids, a lot who have played for Manurewa since they were four years old.

They are currently sitting in fourth place after playing four games, winning two games and losing two games. The team is really starting to come together in their natural positions and love training and playing any chance they get.

Thanks to David Guy and Fiona Sutherland for the hard effort that goes into coaching the kids each week and on game day. The team has really increased their knowledge of the game this year and we look forward to the rest of the season.
