After stumbling in recent games in the last couple of weeks , the reserve side is determined to get their season back on track this week. We had a draw (1-1) last week against Waitakere and a loss (2-1) to East Coast Bays the week before, but could have pinched the points if we hadn't conceded goals from silly mistakes and had finished the chances that we created. Putting a positive spin on things, we are playing some attractive football at times but need to learn to concentrate for the full 90 minutes. Also, we had no first team players last week so the bench players had to lift their game and to their credit they did. To all the Manurewa teams, good luck this weekend and lets go down to Hamilton next weekend with our seasons back on track. Bay Olympic have been the standard to achieve for the clubs in this league for the last two seasons. They currently find themselves in the bottom half of the table but our boys know that this league position is not a reflection of the quality they have in their squad. And knowing Knowlsey, he will have his lads fizzing for today’s match. We are coming off the back of a draw against the bottom side in the league, Waitakere City. While we were gutted with not picking up the 3 points we were happy to gain our first clean sheet of the season. And although we would have liked the win we did show a little steel at the end of the match to get the draw with some resolute defending and goalkeeping. Earlier in the season we may have conceded and lost this game so in the end the point we gained was pleasing. Each week I seem to be telling the boys that its like a cup final. But this is the mentality we need to take into matches until we claw our way out of the relegation zone. Thanks once again to our loyal support crew. The Assyrian star side have a had 2 wins and a loss the wins against Papatoetoe and Ellerslie and a loss to Fencibles and the boys are currently sitting 4th. The Div 3 side have had 3 losses and are currently sitting in 8th and with a bottom of table clash this week , Duncan and his boys will be looking for 3 points against Onehunga Mangere. The new Div 9 side with a mixture of U19s and senior players are now 2 from 2 which is very good to see. After 2 games the boys are sitting 5th and this week they are playing Papakura. The over 30s have had a loss and a draw there first point coming against Fencibles last week and this week they have Mt Albert Ponsonby the boys are sitting 7th. Our U19s have had 2 wins and a draw and this week they are playing Onehunga Sports and Brians boys are sitting 7 equal and are looking good for the top half after grading is finished. Thanks Giggsy Ladies Report The last couple of weeks we have had a loss against Clendon, a cancellation, a loss against Western Springs and we have a bye this weekend. The game against Western Springs last week was always going to be a hard one. The ladies opted for a new formation and a few players in new positions which if we work on it will work wonders for us in our next game. But with Kath holding the middle for us and putting in through balls for us Renae and Sarah working well up front, we were just unable to put any of our chances away and a couple of mistakes in defence just cost us 2 goals and we just couldn't bring it back.

Box 75 122 War Memorial Park Manurewa Gibbs Rd Auckland Manurewa Phone: (09) 267 1120 www.manurewaafc.org.nz Welcome to the first home game of the season at Memorial Park. The top two sides started last week with a loss to Bay Olympic for our Premier side—they now know what's needed. Well done to the Reserves for their first win. This week we welcome Birkenhead's two top sides and look forward to hosting them at the park today. Today we see the changes our club administration has been working on with the return to the club of our small whites who have been based at Pullman Park Papakura for the last few years as part of the whole of football plan. To Kieran and Todd thanks for your efforts in making this happen. It's now the clubs responsibility to make it work. On the other side we start the season with a club breakfast which is quite fitting as we welcome on board the Wiri Licencing Trust as the clubs first team sponsor for the 2017 season. Although they are long time supporters of the club, it is great to see them become sponsors again. We look forward to a long term arrangement which benefits both The Trust, Club and the community. Today with our Premier and Reserve team players here please take the time to have a chat and get to know them. Also coaches introduce them to your team members.

That’s the only female match scheduled for Sunday due to the weekend earlier being set aside for the ASB Women’s Knockout Cup and it’s a fitting encounter to take centre stage. Glenfield are one of four sides in the hunt for the title and a win would put them top on goal difference. In the men’s Premier League, Eastern Suburbs can take another step towards the title with a victory over Birkenhead United while North Shore United’s hosting of Ellerslie is the highlight of Division One. The game of greatest consequence in Division Two is the southern derby between Papatoetoe and Papakura City, who both need the points for contrasting reasons – Papatoetoe to boost their fight against relegation and Papakura to strengthen their title charge.

To tie in with this historic milestone, the Lotto NRFL will have a new look and feel with the introduction of a logo and further branding, including social media and this weekly programme, for one of the country’s leading club-based competitions. The elements used within the logo refer to various features of the different regions. The wavy lines represent the wide expanses of water that surround Northland, Auckland and the Waikato, including the Waikato River, while the mountains evoke the Waitakere Ranges, Bombay Hills and Kamai Ranges, as well as the numerous volcanoes that are scattered throughout the area. A champion will definitely be found in the final round of the Women’s Premier on Sunday with Claudelands Rovers appearing likely to wrestle the crown off Forrest Hill-Milford United. The champions-in-waiting need just a point from the visit of relegated Fencibles United while Forrest Hill must make sure they beat Papatoetoe and pray for a miracle down in Hamilton. In the men’s action, a quirk of the draw has pitted the top two sides against each other in both the Premier League and Division One, creating what amounts to a pair of title deciders.
