VS Waitakere United Lotto Northern Premier Division 3 August 2013 2.45pm Manurewa AFC Club Rooms P.O. Box 75 122 War Memorial Park Manurewa Gibbs Rd Auckland Manurewa Phone: (09) 267 1120 This week we welcome Waitakere City to Memorial Park both Premier and Reserves. They bring a different team than in our first match and their results of late show it, but in recent games the improvement in our top side shows we are up for the challenge and I would except nothing less with the improvements shown. To our Reserve side currently in fifth spot keep it up and maintain the mid table through to the end of the season. Hopefully the weather between now and the end of the season will allow the extra games on the first pitch which we were able to enjoy last week. Again a reminder about the club raffle, push these tickets please. To the ball boys and girls from junior and youth section, keep up the great effort you put in. It’s great to see and the board members thank you. A reminder about the end of year prize giving. Put some thought into those people you think have gone the distance and let the board members know. Good luck to all teams enjoy your game. Cheers Kerry Bevan Club Raffle 2013 The draw will take place on 17 August after the Hamilton Wanderers home game. Please get all your tickets sold and handed back in. SUPPORTERS It is now time to place your vote for Supporters Player of the Year. See Laurette to place your vote. Voting closes 17 August. The next programme will feature a competition based around the First team and will be open to all supporters. There will be a prize for the first correct entry re- ceived on 17 August (with the possibility of a second place). Reserve Coaches Comments Hi once again and welcome to Waitakere players and supporters. Well, last week didn't go as planned with the reserves being pipped 2 - 1 by a very good East Coast Bays side. On reflection after the game, I was more than happy with the effort that we put in even though we weren't able to secure any points. It was a very physical game, and thought we competed reasonably well against a team that was technically better and quicker than us. This week, we need to try and secure three points so we can hold on to our mid table spot. Good luck to all Manurewa teams this weekend and lets try to bring all points home. Our last home match saw us valiantly battle perennial title contenders East Coast Bays and thanks to a few key summer league players coming back, Waitakere are showing just as impressive form in the second half of the season which have seen them leave teams in their dust to make the semi-finals of the Chatham Cup as well as get back in the mix to stay in the Premier League next season. We can take some positives from our effort last week, but as so often happens, a couple of mental lapses cost us dearly and we came away with nothing. The other encouraging thing from last week's match was the continued improvement and solid performance of some players who were given their chance and have kept their spots in the squad this week. What Nathan and I asked of the guys is consistency, and the last few weeks we have got an 85 minute performance, but what the team has learnt this season is that although they can play and compete at this level, to stay at this level, players have to have a greater mental focus to give a 90 minute performance week in and week out. Today is a great opportunity for our players to test themselves against a host of higher level players and put in another solid performance in front of our leagues best fans. This week they are up against Clevedon. The Assyrian star lads had a tough last 5 minute loss 3-2 and finish their league 3rd which is a great effort after the step up from Div 1 last year. They have a few more games left this year in a subsidiary league. The Div 3 side had another win 4-0 with Beau even scoring (Don't know how or why but I'm sure we will hear about it for a long time to come). This week they are playing Eastern Suburbs. The over 30s had a good win against Western Springs 4-0 and moved off the bottom of the table. After last weeks win they now have a bye. The U19s had another win 2-0 against Fencibles and this week they are playing Central on Sunday at 1pm so try and head down and watch the boys play. The boys sit 2nd behind Central with a game in hand. Our teams have returned after the school holiday break and seemed to have picked up where they left off. We have 4 teams in the 11th grade, 13th grade, 14th grade and 15th grade in the running to win their respective championships so its fingers crossed for them. Our 11th grade Lightning are unbeaten with 4 games left to play. We wish all teams in the club the best of luck for their games this weekend.
