Working together, our Allegheny Collego Lecture Series: - Eric Pallant students, faculty and staff demonstrated time and again -Angelique Kidjo why Allegheny is among the nation’s finest liberal arts -‘The Biodiversity of Culture: colleges.l am proud to be counted as your colleague, Understanding Indonesia’s Place in and thank you for sustaining Allegheny’s tradition of Your World” -Sonia Nazario singular academic achievement in a setting that promotes -John Imaneno integrity, involvement and -Gerry Adams inclusivity. -‘Healing Ecology: Buddhist Reflections on the Eco-Crisis” David Loy, Ph.D. Our community united this year around the theme of -International Week global citizenship. I was inspired not only by the range of -Cookies and Milk Concert public events and outreach, but also the range of individuals who took a leadership role in organizing those Spring: -Art Exhibition: "Diasporas and activities. These efforts spanned the academic disciplines Dreams": artist Vasia Markides and all facets of campus life, a testament to the -Symposium —Citizenship Today: power of creative partnerships in affecting positive Reflections on Martin Luther King, change. Jr.'s Legacy -‘Modem Environmentalism: Voices from the Planet” That power is evident in the tremendous level of service that Allegheny Alon Tal, Ph.D. students provide to Meadville, surrounding areas and beyond - an estimated -Photojournalist Craig F. Walker 40,000 hours this year. You have served as remarkable ambassadors for the -‘What I Learned About Judaism from the Dalai Lama: Spiritual College by collaborating with hundreds of citizens, nonprofits and schools. You Ecology and the Endangered Species have mentored young people, assisted with economic and environmental of Religion" Rodgor Kamenetz revitalization initiatives and volunteered in countless other ways. I sincerely -Step Afrika! appreciate your resourcefulness and helpful spirit, and please know that you -Black History Month Events -Women's History Month Screening truly have benefited our region. 8 Discussion: ‘The Greatest Silence: Rape in the Congo" I am also grateful that Allegheny students have continued to contribute -Peace Corps 50th Birthday enthusiastically to our democracy this year. You have joined a rich history of Celebration -Global Citizenship Conference Alleghenians who have made a difference by participating in the political -‘Boko” Spring Dance Concert process. To help advance that legacy, the College this year announced the Choreographed by Andrea Markus creation of a national award to honor elected officials who exemplify -Helen Welch + Jazz Trio authentic, courageous civility. The award will celebrate the ideals of -A Symposium on Hirokazu Kore'oda expression that Allegheny seeks to instill in students: the commitment to -Bobby Bailey, co-founder of the share important ideas passionately yet respectfully, to have conviction while Invisible Children movement genuinely considering the perspectives of others. -China’s Economy: Historical Legacies 8 Modern Growth -"Muslims and Minorities in the Pre- Members of the Class of 2011,1 thank you for all that you have done for Modern Middle East: The Ottoman Allegheny in your four years here.
