E a SUMMER 2018

FASCINATING MOUNTAIN SUMMER 2018

An inspiring summer programme

Guests staying more than one night in a participating hotel enjoy free mountain railway transport. Further information on page 9. SPORTS AND CULTURE AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL

Engadin St. Moritz

The has a long tradition of golf at the highest level. In 2018, the Engadine Golf Club celebrates its 125th anniversary. This is ’s oldest golf club and a real institution. The club’s magnificent courses in Samedan und Zuoz lie at an altitude of 1,700 metres in an unrivalled natural setting. When we consider that as far back as 1889 a 9-hole course was laid out by Lake St. Moritz for a while, we can even say that the Engadin is the cradle of Swiss golf.

Alongside golf, the Engadin St. Moritz holiday region offers an endless variety of other sporting activities. This year, the theme of the Swiss mountain summer is “Back to nature”. And for an impressive and eco-friendly experience of nature, it is hard to beat the Engadin. Hardly any other alpine destination can offer its guests such a variety of pristine and spectacular natural landscapes. Explore on foot, by mountain bike or e-bike or on horseback; sail or windsurf across the sparkling lakes; play the scenic golf courses: whatever your preference, the Engadin offers an inspiring setting and a tremendous variety of possibilities for finding your way back to nature – and experiencing it up close.

You can look forward to a close-up experience of culture, too, in the Upper Engadin. The organisers of leading events such as the Festival da Jazz, Engadin Festival and the Nietzsche Colloquium invite world-class artists and renowned thinkers to a variety of small but stylish venues in historic buildings or surrounded by nature.

With our attractive “Mountain railways and cableways included” offer, you can access our uplifting mountain landscapes easily and inexpensively. Any stay of more than one night at a participating hotel or holiday apart- ment includes your ticket for travel on up to 13 cable cars, gondolas, chairlifts and funiculars in Engadin St. Moritz.

Treat yourself to an escape, let yourself be inspired by our dramatic natural landscapes and enjoy an unforgettable holiday in Engadin St. Moritz – whatever your budget.

ST. MORITZ

St. Moritz Tourist Information Its name is an internationally protected trademark and stands for style, elegance and CH-7500 St. Moritz high class: St. Moritz is one of the most famous holiday resorts in the world. Located T +41 81 837 33 33 1,856 metres (6,089ft) above sea level, and with a spectacular view of the Upper Engadin F +41 81 837 33 77 lakes, this chic destination has always been a cut above the rest: it was the birthplace [email protected] of winter tourism (1864) and has hosted two Winter Olympic Games (1928 and 1948), as www.engadin.stmoritz.ch/en/stmoritz well as many ski and bobsleigh world championships. In winter 2017, the FIS Alpine World www.stmoritz.ch Ski Championships took place here for the fifth time. The first electric light in Switzerland shone in St. Moritz and Europe’s first Palace Hotel was built here. While it enjoys an outstanding reputation for its elegant hotels, legendary events and exclusive services, St. Moritz has managed to preserve much of its original authentic charm – and is blessed with a natural setting so beautiful it could have been sculpted by an artist. The legendary, dry “champagne climate” promises a sparkling, invigorating atmosphere. St. Moritz owes its importance as a health resort to its mineral springs, frequented for 3,500 years. Today, thanks to the unique interplay of nature, culture, sports, lifestyle, pleasure and relaxation, St. Moritz is the number-one mountain holiday resort in the world. Discerning guests particularly appreciate the internationally renowned deluxe hotels and outstanding restaurants, boasting a concentration of culinary awards that makes gourmets’ mouths water. The conditions for water sports are the finest far and wide: with the [email protected] reliability of a Swiss watch, the Maloja wind rises around noon, causing sails to billow and kites to dance www.engadin.stmoritz.ch/en/ across the waves. The sight is especially impressive during big international competitions such as the silvaplana “Engadinwind”, the windsurfing and kitesurfing regatta and the Engadin Surf Marathon on Lake Silvaplana. The resort is also known as the gateway to the Engadin, flanked by a resplendent row of imposing 3,000-metre (10,000ft) peaks including the local mountain Corvatsch – which means that mountain bikers and hikers, too, find countless opportunities for high thrills right on the hotel doorstep. Guests who prefer a more relaxing pastime can pick up a rod and try their luck fishing in the lakes. SILS

Sils Tourist Information This Engadin village of culture is world-famous: writers such as Nietzsche and Dürrenmatt, artists such as CH-7514 Sils Beuys and Chagall and musicians such as Strauss, Honegger and David Bowie were all inspired by the broad T +41 81 838 50 50 expanses and the magical quality of light in Sils. Guests appreciate the peaceful tranquillity in a magnifi- F +41 81 838 50 59 cent landscape, which offers a wonderfully enriching contrast to everyday life; they also value the relaxed [email protected] style of Sils’s hotels, guesthouses and holiday homes. With just 800 inhabitants, Sils is peaceful, relaxed www.engadin.stmoritz.ch/en/sils and inviting. The village lies idyllically between Lake Sils and Lake Silvaplana at the entrance to the Val Fex, which visitors can explore on a romantic ride by horse-drawn carriage. Even a gentle stroll reveals the glories of this spacious landscape flooded with light, said to radiate a special energy. Those setting their sights higher find scenic and varied hiking and mountain biking trails up on Furtschellas, the local peak. Another way to enjoy the magnificent mountain landscape is on a trip on Europe’s highest-altitude sched- uled boat service on Lake Sils. The village also charms guests with its performances of classical music on Sunday afternoons, readings, talks, guided tours, theatre shows and exhibitions. During summer, Sils presents five cultural gems: the Sils Hesse Days; a series of recitals performed on a raft in a picturesque bay by the Chastè peninsula; the “Kunst- und LiteraTourtage” (“Sils art and literature days”); the Nietzsche Colloquium; and the “Resonanzen” international culture festival.

A path guides visitors through unspoilt nature from one fairy story to the next, all of them penned by Engadin women authors and brought to life by captivating sculptures created by local artists. These works mark the stations along the Fairy Trail and incorporate giant books with stories about witches, bears and fairies. Rumour has it that such fairy-tale characters may even come to life in the enchanted Bever valley. If you are very quiet and listen carefully, you might even hear the voice of a real-life gnome…

General terms of business: This catalogue has been compiled on behalf of the tourist service providers named within, in accordance with information supplied by them. Your con- tractual partner is specified in the relevant entry, and is responsible for the proper provision of any services booked. Many service providers operate their own general terms of business that define contractual relations with you and specify the liability of the pro- vider. These general terms of business are binding for you when you make a booking. Prices and services described in this brochure may be changed at any time. You will be informed about any such changes at the time of making a booking. Outdoor activities: these activ- ities may be cancelled or broken off at any time if weather conditions or other circumstances require. You may book services directly with the relevant pro- vider or via Engadin St. Moritz. If you book an activity via Engadin St. Moritz, the latter is dealing purely as an inter- mediary between you and the service provider. Your contract is directly with the provider of the service booked. In case of disagreement or any question of liability, etc., you should refer directly to the relevant service provider. Enga- din St. Moritz is not your contractual partner and accepts no responsibility for provision of the service booked. Only Swiss law is applicable. Any disputes arising hereunder will be settled before a competent court of law in St. Moritz, Switzerland. Guests staying more than one night can purchase a Hotel Ski Pass for CHF 38.– at a participating hotel throughout the entire winter season.
