Faunal, phenological and bibliographical information on Latvian Eumolpinae are presented in the current paper. Bibliographycal analysis on this leaf-beetles subfamily in Latvia is made for the first time. An annotated list of Latvian Eumolpinae including 4 species of 3 genera is given. INTRODUCTION HAYDAK, in 1936, managed to rear Oryzaephilus surinantensis (L.) in the la- boratory using an artificial diet. Many researchers have followed in his footsteps, so that since then, approximately 260 species of Coleoptera have been raised on nonnatural diets. Among these species there are 121 which are eminently xylophagous. They belong to seven families (Buprestidae, Elateridae, Bostrychiclae, Lyctidae, Myc- teridae, Cerambyciclae and Curculionidae). Their importance, from the economic point of view, varies widely : some of them attack living trees making them a pest ; others feed on dead or decaying wood so that they may be considered harmless or even beneficial (for example in the decomposition of tree stumps in forests) ; finally, a few cause damage to seasoned timber. Therefore, specialists in artificial breeding have been motivated by different objectives, and so have chosen the insect or insects in each case which were most suitable for obtaining specific desired results. It is clear that in the majority of cases the choice was not made at random. Generally, the insect studied was either recently established as a pest or well documented as such. •With these laboratory breeding experiments it is possible on the one hand to draw conclusions about the insects' nutritive requirements, parasitism, ethology etc ; and on the other to obtain enough specimens to try out different phytosanitary treatments with them. Both of these achievements are applicable to effectiye control of the insect problem. -

Mus. natn. hung. 86: 79-83. Abstract - Material collected in Spain and preserved in the Hungarian Natural History Museum belonging to the subfamily Ichneumoninae is studied. The 28 species belong into 6 tribes: Ichneumonini, Listrodomini, Phaeoge- nini, Protichneumonini, Trogini and Zimmerini. Three of them arc highly important: Neotypus intermedins inter medins MOCSÁRY, 1883 is a species from Spain whose type is studied, Cotiheresiarches dims (WESMAEL, 1853) and Cratichneumon fugitivus (GRAVENHORST, 1829) are first records for the Iberian fauna. INTRODUCTION The Hungarian Natural History Museum houses a good series of Ichneumonidae species. We also had the opportunity to examine a considerable number of Mediterranean specimens. Howewer, all these species are badly in need of an exhaustive reclassification. Our main objective was to present new data regarding the Spanish species of Ichneumoninae, that accumulated in the Hymenoptera Collection in Budapest. Although the largest part of the Collection is based on materials obtained by SZÉPLIGETI and MocsÁRY, in this study we were highly interested in that part of KRIECHBAUMER'S Collection (mainly collected by KORB and placed in Munich: SELFA 1992) which was deposited here. Similarly, a long series of specimens recently collected by J. & A. PODLUSSÁNY was also taken into consideration. Twenty-eight species from the tribes Ichneumonini, Listrodomini, Phaeogenini, Protichneu monini, Trogini and Zimmerini are discussed. -

Marshall This thesis has two parts. The first part investigates the relationships between the Archiceroptera genus complex and other members of the Limosininae (Diptera: Sphaeroceridae). A focus is placed on the relationships within the larger epandrial process group, which contains Bitheca, Bromeloecia, Pterogramma, Aptilotella, and Robustagramma, along with Archiceroptera, Rudolfina and several previously unplaced species groups. Molecular and morphological data sets provide the first phylogeny of the group, and were used to support the inclusion of several unplaced species groups within Rudolfina and Archiceroptera, while one new genus is described. Pectinosina gen. nov. includes two species: P. prominens (Duda), previously placed in Rudolfina, and P. carro n. sp. The second part of the thesis deals with revisions of Archiceroptera Papp and Rudolfina Roháček. Rudolfina now includes 13 described species, nine of which are newly described here (R. bucki, R. exuberata, R. howdeni, R. megepandria, R. pauca, R. pilosa, R. newtoni, R. remiforma, and R. tumida). Fire and timber harvest are the two major disturbances that alter forest ecosystems in interior Alaska. Both types of disturbance provide habitats that attract wood borers and bark beetles the first year after the disturbance, but populations then decrease to levels below those in undisturbed sites.
