RESEARCH EXPERIENCE (1994 – till date)

SPECIALIZATION Cancer therapeutics

MAJOR GOAL To formulate a combinatorial drug targeting cancer cell microbial metabolites inhibiting various targets such as Topoisomerase II, Telomerase, Angiotensin Converting , Folate availability and MMP are under study.

MINOR TARGETS  Nm23 protein from Streptomyces sp. and GidA protein from Streptomyces sp. had been proven to posses anticancer property through Topoisomerase II inhibition  Fatty acids from Streptomyces sp. had been proven to have Telomerase inhibition  Antifolate enzyme Pterin deaminase enzyme from Micrococcus luteus, rat liver and rabbit liver is being purified for structural characterisation and sequence determination  Hemeoxygenase enzyme from Candida tropicalis, Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Pseudomonas aerugenosa are being studied for their role in cancer  Recombinant Bacterioferritin of Streptomyces coelicolor A3 had been proven to have Topoisomerase inhibition  Lupeol from algae is being analysed for MMP inhibition  Small peptides from bacteria and fungus are being analysed for their Angiotensin converting enzyme inhibiting property

CV of Dr. J. Angayarkanni, PhD. 3/16

EXPECTED RESEARCH OUTCOME  Determination of biological role of pterin deaminase in eukaryotes and prokaryotes after gene and protein sequence elucidation  Formulation of combinatorial drug for cancer therapy targeting various pathways
