A guide and list to a collection of Historic Railway Documents www.railarchive.org.uk to e mail click here December 2017 1 Since July 1971, this private collection of printed railway documents from pre grouping and pre nationalisation railway companies based in the UK; has sought to expand it‟s collection with the aim of obtaining a printed sample from each independent railway company which operated (or obtained it‟s act of parliament and started construction). There were over 1,500 such companies and to date the Rail Archive has sourced samples from over 800 of these companies. Early in 2001 the collection needed to be assessed for insurance purposes to identify a suitable premium. The premium cost was significant enough to warrant a more secure and sustainable future for the collection. In 2002 The Rail Archive was set up with the following objectives: secure an on-going future for the collection in a public institution reduce the insurance premium continue to add to the collection add a private collection of railway photographs from 1970‟s onwards provide a public access facility promote the collection ensure that the collection remains together in perpetuity where practical ensure that sufficient finances were in place to achieve to above objectives The archive is now retained by The Bodleian Library in Oxford to deliver the above objectives. This guide which gives details of paperwork in the collection and a list of railway companies from which material is wanted. The aim is to collect an item of printed paperwork from each UK railway company ever opened.

RepresentingEXETER users – BARNSTAPLE of the Barnstaple RAILWAY to Exeter LINE rail line TARKA RAIL ASSOCIATION ASPIRATIONS FOR THE GREATER WESTERN FRANCHISE 2013 INTRODUCTION 1 The purpose of this paper is to set out as succinctly as possible the aspirations of the Tarka Rail Association for the new Greater Western Franchise which is scheduled to come into force in 2013. 2 The new Department for Transport “Guide to the railway franchise procurement process” specifically excludes pre-qualifying bidders from discussing matters with stakeholders while preparing bids. Thus user groups are excluded from a widely accepted and appreciated process as has been the case hitherto. In particular we are not able to influence the service specification. 3 Consequently, we have prepared this document with a view to sending it to all major train operating groups and to the Department for Transport (DfT), Office of the Rail Regulator and Network Rail prior to the formal process getting under way. The document has been prepared in consultation with the Avocet Line Rail Users Group and the Torbay Line Users Group, the Devon & Cornwall Rail Partnership (DCRP) and also, most importantly, Devon County Council (DCC) as the transport authority for our area and with whom we have a strong working relationship. BACKGROUND 4 The Tarka Rail Association was formerly known as the North Devon Rail Users Group. We have over 200 members. We have a Committee of volunteers representing users along the whole 39 route miles of the Exeter – Barnstaple railway line. We are the longest established users group in the south-west of England and are widely respected in the industry, not least because of our very positive and pro-active stance.

It also has provisions for the reauthorisation process for vehicles authorised in another Member State which have been moved from the 2004 Safety Directive into the Interoperability Directive. ii.) The draft regulations will implement the Directive for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The reauthorisation of vehicles for the UK half of the Channel Tunnel are dealt with in bi-national safety regulations. All other requirements in the Directive in relation to the Tunnel will be implemented through these draft interoperability regulations. iii.) This consultation builds on two earlier rounds of consultation which were published by the Department in 2009 and 2010.

south devon railway Buckfastleigh Welcome to the South Devon railway, Buckfastleigh Due to the coronavirus restrictions, we are currently unable to run trains to Totnes, but you are very welcome to look around our site and view the exhibits and restoration work in progress. The South Devon Railway is run by a charitable organisation and, as we currently do not have any income from train fares, our continued survival is entirely dependent on your donations. Suggested Minimum Donation for Site Entry £5 per Person Site entry is free but any donation you can make, large or small, is very much appreciated. If you are a qualifying taxpayer and willing to allow us to collect gift aid on your donation, please speak to one of our stewards and complete a gift aid form. Please observe social distancing throughout this site walk. Parts of the route are of a rural nature and not paved so may be unsuitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs. Toilets are only available on the station platform which is at the end of the walk. Hand sanitiser is available on entry and exit, at the Running Shed and North Signal Box. Some exhibits may not be available, due to operational or staffi ng reasons. Thank you. Look out for the letters as you go around our site. A Children’s Playground The children’s playground can be accessed via the footpath immediately on the right as you enter.
