Digital radio switch on event – TOMORROW!!

Dear Parent / Carer;

We’re so proud to have been asked to host an exciting occasion on behalf of the county at our school. Tomorrow morning, at approximately 8.45 a.m., some of our children will have the honour of pressing the big green digital radio switch to signify the expansion of local DAB coverage in Telford, and across Wolverhampton and Shropshire. The expansion of coverage means that listeners will then be able to receive eight further radio stations - BBC Radio Shropshire, BBC Radio West Midlands, Free Radio, Free Radio 80s, Heart West Midlands, Smooth West Midlands, Radio XL and Capital - on DAB digital radio for the first time.

We are lucky enough to welcome presenters Tim Beech, Adam Green, Vicki Archer and Ian Perry from Radio Shropshire, and other radio presenters from other stations including Heart and Free Radio into our school. Our pupils will be live on the radio and after the event the presenters have kindly agreed to allow our children a ‘question and answer’ session connected to a life working in radio. We are always looking to inspire our children with possible options for their world of work and we know that some will be excited by the possible prospect of working for one of our local radio stations in the future.

We would like to invite Year 6 children to come into school on Wednesday for 8.15am so that we can be ready for transmission, please enter school via the office. Throughout the event, there will be photographers in school, and we anticipate a high level of media coverage; therefore, if you do not want your child to be involved, please let us know.

Breakfast club will be relocated into the Learning Hub for this day only. If your child attends Breakfast club, please could you ensure children arrive before 8.15am so that we don’t interrupt the live broadcast. We will also ask children from breakfast club to attend the event, if you do not want your child be involved please let us know.
