Compar ison between this ICHINOMIYA Nagatsune 1721-1786 piece and Ishiguro Koreyoshi's piece of the same title is interesting. Various chiselwork on the body is 18-19c. silver chiselwork with gold halo rendered with elevated technique. Myoken-bosatsu is said to protect the land, and abolish disaster s, and increase man's happiness. This pie ce Nishimura Unsho was a pupil of Vincenzo Raguza at the Kobu shows his technique, and was donated by the artist himself in 1899. Quail 18c. cast brass Kamejo is known for her quail incense burners with the wing part as MATSUBARA Joho a lid. She was a lost-wax casting craftsman active in Nagasaki. Lobster in a bract cast bronze HONMA Takusai II Joho was a pupil of Oshima Joun, and graduate of an art school i n Vase decorated with willow, lotus and heron Paris. cast bronze Takusai is the originator of Sado lost wax casting, and this pie ce SHIRASAKI Hakuzen 1858-1925 shows his technique. Japanese spaniel cast bronze, brass and shakudo inlay NISHIMURA Unsho I 1859-1912 Hakuzen was from Takaoka, the city of metal casting. He was active Kirin incense burner in the Tokyo Chukinkai, a group leaded by Okazaki Sessei, Oshima Joun, and Katori Hotsuma, who were also professors at the Tokyo cast brass Fine Arts School. NOGAMI Ryuki 1865-1932 3 Tortoise 1932 cast bronze YAMAGISHI Shunsai Each of these turtles are cast separately, with various finishes . Lion Ryuki was a pupil of Oshima Joun, and participated in the finish ing cast bronze of the Saigo Takamori statue in the entrance of Ueno Park. Shunsai was active in the Tokyo Chokokai, along with Oshima Joun, Katori Hotsuma, Nogami Ryuki, and Tsuda Shinobu. Tortoises cast bronze Nogami Ryuki exhibited simila r tortoises in the 1900 Paris YOTSUYA Masami 1876-1941 International Exhibition. Tiger 1899 cast brass and shibuichi KINRYUSAI Gido The graduation work as a student of the metal carving department of the Tokyo Fine Arts School in 1899. Parent and child tortoises cast bronze Artist unknown KATORI Hotsuma 1874-1954 Tigers cast bronze Seal with auspicious bird handle cast bronze These 3 seals were placed on the decorative shelf exhibited by t he MASAKIYO Kaho 1874-1956 Tokyo Fine Arts School in the St. Louis International Exhibition of Ox cart carrying a load 1904. cast bronze Masakiyo Kaho was a classmate of Tsuda Shinobu, who later YAMADA Yuho 1871-1922 became professor of the metal cast ing division and also one of t he leaders of the new type of crafts in the early 20th century. Wagtail on rock 1897 hammered silver, shakudo, and shibuichi Yamada Yuho's graduation piece was also selected for the FUJIKAWA Yuzo 1883-1935 decorative shelf exhibited by th e Tokyo Fine Arts School in the St. Rabbit Louis International Exhibition of 1904. 1910 cast bronze This piece was created while Yuzo studied in France, after SAKAGUCHI Konan graduating the Tokyo Fine Arts School. He later becomes an assistant of Rodin. Brush rest in dragon shape cast nickel Sakaguchi Konan graduated the Tokyo Fine Arts School in 1898, Auguste RODIN 1840-1917 and became Associate professor in 1905. This piece was donated Victor Marie Hugo by the Masaki Chifuyu, who wo uld later become the mayor of 1883 castbronze Kamakura city. This was created in the year that Rodin first met Hugo. However, Hugo resisted to take a pose for the sculptor. SATO Shogo 1885-1983 Bantams TOBARI Kogan 1882-1927 1910 cast silver, shakudo inlay Man's torso A graduation work of the metal division, when carving and c.1909 castbronze hammering divisions were merged. Kogan studied painting in New York, but shifted to sculpture effected by Ogiwara Morie.
