RETURN TO BASKETBALL STAGE 3 RESTRICTIONS WEEK STARTING 13TH JULY 2020

Update # 3 28/6/2020

Dear Members,

The Winter Season will commence week beginning 13th July 2020

We are now only 2 weeks away from starting our Winter Season. Be it as it may, a short season of only 9 weeks, it is still so very exciting to see our State progressing forward into stage 3 restrictions. With each step forward, I would like to ensure parents that Belmont Saints Basketball Club and Southern Districts Basketball Association are working hard to ensure the safety of all participants and families. Belmont Saints has now nominated our teams and players and we will be bringing 28 teams to the competition this season. Traditionally we lose approximately 40 children to other sports at this time of the year. However, with the return of sport, we’ve increased our numbers yet again, covering these 40 kids PLUS another 20 on top of that. Basketball continues to be a very popular sport and Belmont Saints Basketball Club is known to be one of the fastest growing clubs in South East Qld. I’d like to express my gratitude to all our families who continue to remain loyal to the club and for what we stand for. Welcome to our newest members and thank you for joining our community #jointhepack. Belmont Saints, as a part of our strategic plan, continues to work hard to keep kids in sport longer. As such our partnership with Bulimba State School remains in place to provide a pathway for their senior students to continue in basketball with Belmont Saints after they graduate from primary school. Sadly Bulimba State School will not be returning to the competition this season. As such Belmont Saints was able to provide a home for 4 teams of girls - two Under 11 Girls and two Under 13 Girls. The girls have come together and have decided to name themselves Belmont (Blueys), Belmont Whippets, Belmont Dingoes and Belmont Cavaliers. Please ensure to say hello to our newest members. We also look forward to welcoming Bulimba State School back to the Competition in Term 4 Summer Season. Parents, Belmont Saints is very keen to establish more of these partnerships, so if your child’s school have a basketball presence, please let me know so that we can open the channels of communication between the club, school and sport. Belmont Saints Website www.belmontsaintsbasketball.com.au is now live. This is your one-stop shop to get all the information you need now and during the season. There is also a live chat function so if you need some quick information, just reach out. Please ensure to jump online and familiarise yourself with the site so you are all ready by the start of Term 3.

Team Vacancies: The following places are still available in our teams: U7 – 4 spots U9 girls – 1 spot U9 boys – 2 spots U11 Girls – 2 spots, U11 Boys – 3 spots U13 boys – 2 spots U15 Girls – 4 spots U15 boys - 4 spots U20 boys - 2 spots Then we are full. Games: Starting the week 13th July, when school goes back Term 3, we will commence a 9 week Season. There wont be any grading or semi finals or finals. This is a great season to just get back into the swing of sport again.

Being Ready: Keeping safety first, Belmont Saints Coaches have now completed their BQ elearning course on Covid19 and they are all accredited Covid19 Safety Officers. With this comes a few more responsibilities, however we are all committed to doing the right thing to ensure the continuation of basketball. To see the SDBAL Return to Sport Guidelines, and the Belmont Saints Covid19 Safety Plan, please go to our website www.belmontsaintsbasketball.com.au

Belmont Saints Re-Ignite: 14 of our 28 teams have participated in the Belmont Saints Re-Ignite Initiative. A program designed to encourage children back to the court sooner rather than later. This 3 week team training program is now in its final week. Even though in Stage 2 restrictions and some modifications to our training programs, our coaches and their teams were given the opportunity to get a head start in getting back onto the court sooner. This initiative was funded by the Active Clubs Covid19 Kick Start Grant, which saw our club receive $2000. These funds were then passed back to our members, essentially providing training at no cost to these 14 teams. Our club intends on pursuing more of these types of grants so that more opportunity can be offered to our members and to reiterate the importance of being and remaining active.

Coaching Accreditation: Coaching accreditation is not mandatory; however Belmont Saints is committed to providing pathways for our coaches who want to pursue coaching accreditation level 1 and level 2. Funded by the Ross Vasta Volunteers Grant, we will be funding our coaches to achieve level 1 and level 2 (to the cost of this grant). Parents, if you’d like to get more involved and are considering coaching a team, please reach out. We have many ways to support you. And the only way we can grow, is to secure more coaches. Accreditation is not mandatory, and it is ok just to coach your child and their teammates. Our support can be as easy as giving you some good drills and ideas on how to develop your team.

Team Managers Meeting: Next Wednesday Night 1st July at 7.30pm is our Team Managers Zoom Meeting. Please ensure to put this event in your diaries as I will be going through the role and responsibilities of a Team Manager including how to get your game times.
