THE ALL-IN-ONE AUDIOBOOK Least That’S What She Tells Herself Matt Donaghy has always been a Big Mouth. But it’s never gotten him in trouble—until the day Matt is accused of threatening to blow up Rocky River High School. Ursula Riggs has always been an Ugly Girl. A loner with fierce, staring eyes, Ursula has no time for petty high school stuff like friends and dating—or at THE ALL-IN-ONE AUDIOBOOK least that’s what she tells herself. Ursula is content with minding her own business. And she doesn’t even really know Matt Donaghy. But Ursula is the only person who knows what Matt really said that day…and she is the only one who can help him. In her first novel for young adults, acclaimed author Joyce Carol Oates has created a provocative and unflinching story of friendship and family, and of loyalty and betrayal. Joyce Carol Oates is the author of many novels, including the National Book Award nominee and bestseller Blonde and the national bestseller We Were the Mulvaneys. Her most recent children’s novels include After the Wreck, I Picked Myself Up, Spread My Wings, and Flew Away; Freaky Green Eyes; and Sexy. A recipient of the National Book Award and the PEN/Malamud Award for Achievement in the Short Story, Ms. Oates is the Roger S. Berlind Distinguished Professor of Humanities at Princeton University. She lives in Princeton, New Jersey. Hilary Swank won the Academy Award® for Best Actress for her performance in Boys Don’t Cry and most recently Million Dollar Baby. Among her other films are Freedom Writers, The Reaping, and The Black Dahalia. Chad Lowe, an Emmy Award® winning actor, has starred in such television series as Life Goes On, E.R., Now and Again, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and 24. JOYCE CAROL OATES 16. 6. 1938 Americká prozai čka, básní řka, dramati čka a kriti čka Joyce Carol Oatesová se narodila 16. června 1938 v dělnické rodin ě v Lockportu, ve stát ě New York. D ětství prožila na rodinné farm ě svých prarodi čů nedaleko Erijského jezera blízko kanadských hranic (kraj Erie získal důležité místo v její románové i povídkové tvorb ě, kde ho nazývá „Eden County“).

  • Girl in the Shadows
Girl in the Shadows and Resilience and coping strategies in contemporary young adult fiction (a novel manuscript and exegesis) By Maree Kimberley (Bachelor C.I. – Creative Writing QUT) Creative Writing and Cultural Studies Discipline Creative Industries Faculty Queensland University of Technology Submitted in fulfillment of Master of Arts (Research) 2009 Key terms Resilience, Mental illness, Adolescent brain development, Trauma, Child abuse, Coping mechanisms, Young adult literature, Creative writing, Thesis, Masters ii Abstract The novel manuscript Girl in the Shadows tells the story of two teenage girls whose friendship, safety and sanity are pushed to the limits when an unexplained phenomenon invades their lives. Sixteen-year-old Tash has everything a teenage girl could want: good looks, brains and freedom from her busy parents. But when she looks into her mirror, a stranger’s face stares back at her. Her best friend Mal believes it’s an evil spirit and enters the world of the supernatural to find answers. But spell books and ouija boards cannot fix a problem that comes from deep within the soul. It will take a journey to the edge of madness for Tash to face the truth inside her heart and see the evil that lurks in her home. And Mal’s love and courage to pull her back into life. The exegesis examines resilience and coping strategies in adolescence, in particular, the relationship of trauma to brain development in children and teenagers. It draws on recent discoveries in neuroscience and psychology to provide a framework to examine the role of coping strategies in building resilience.

Gripping YA at it's bestBy Pamela ScottI bought this from UK.Oh, boy does JCO know how to pack a punch, even when writing YA fiction. Freaky Green Eyes turned out to be a lot, lot darker than I expected. I really like the YA fiction Irsquo;ve read by JCO in the past and was really enjoy this novel, which at first, seemed to be about a teenage girl watching her parentrsquo;s marriage fall apart. I was already in love with Frankyrsquo;s voice and the way she saw the world. Then her mother goes missing and suddenly Freaky Green Eyes turned into a different, darker book.
