[email protected] Abstract: The 2019 Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) is a long-term plan that provides direction on how TVA can best meet future demand for power. It will shape how TVA provides low-cost, reliable electricity; supports environmental stewardship; and fosters economic development in the Tennessee Valley for the next 20 years. TVA’s IRP is based upon a “scenario” planning approach that provides an understanding of how future decisions would play out in future scenarios. A wide variety of resource options and business strategies are considered in this IRP. TVA identified six scenarios: (1) The Current Outlook, (2) Economic Downturn, (3) Valley Load Growth, (4) Decarbonization, (5) Rapid Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Adoption, and (6) No Nuclear Extensions. Five planning strategies were evaluated against the backdrop of these scenarios: (A) Base Case, (B) Promote Distributed Energy Resources (DER), (C) Promote Resiliency, (D) Promote Efficient Load Shape and (E) Promote Renewables.
