Lightning Bolt: Tour Italiano Dei Lightning Bolt Per L’Uscita Del Nuovo Album “Fantasy Empire” Lightning Bolt: Tour italiano dei Lightning Bolt per l’uscita del nuovo album “Fantasy Empire” 05/10/2015 “Fantasy Empire is the best they've done it in a long time, and the new sheen makes everything seem magic again” Pitchfork “Death techno played by humans”, così sono stati definiti i Lightning Bolt all’uscita del loro primo album, nel lontano 1999. Motif Music Award Winners On a rainy Tuesday night, an eclectic crowd of roughly 400 musicians and music lovers, from folk to hardcore, from hip-hop to EDM, gathered to swap stories, down drinks and receive awards. Thanks to all who came out, and thanks to the nearly 4,000 Motif readers who took the time to vote for their favorites. It was awesome to see so much talent in one room – in this case, at The Met Café in Pawtucket. Different styles, genres, ages and instruments all mixed together, including stand-out performances by the amazing School of Rock teens, the almost-performance-art random rock of The Viennagram, the acoustic stylings of Amanda Salemi and hip-hop duo DirtyDurdie. There was something for everyone, in what was probably the most eclectic mix of styles to share a Rhode Island stage in a very, very long time. Big thanks to all, as well as to our many presenters, hosts John Fuzek and BettySioux Tailor, Rhodies Food Truck (rhodiesfoodtruck.tumblr.com), and of course, The Met Café. Yes, there are winners (you picked ‘em!), but Motif puts on this awards show to celebrate all the amazing music and musical talent that’s fostered and we hope will thrive in our small-population, big- talent state. We don’t so much care who won – we’re just glad so many came out to play. [AMERICANA] By: John Fuzek BEST ACT: Consuelo’s Revenge Consuelo doesn’t need revenge this time around. The band, whose self-termed musical label is “Genericana,” showed they are tops in the Americana category this year.

The majority of Gibson's playing draws on fairly simple loops and major/minor chord structures, yet also employs more advanced guitar techniques, such as tapping. Gibson uses a high amount of distortion, feedback and effects. Brian Gibson (born July 25, 1975) is a musician and artist based out of Providence, Rhode Island. Gibson is best known as the bassist for the band Lightning Bolt. In the summer of 2015 he co-founded the game development company Drool. At Drool, he created the art and music for the video game Thumper and co-designed the game alongside Marc Flury. Thumper was released with critical acclaim in October 2016. Bryan Gibson grew up playing baseball, riding BMX bikes, and exploring the woods of the quaint town of Orangeburg, SC. It wasnâ™t until fourteen years after his birth on New Yearâ™s Eve that he picked up a guitar and tried his hand at a set of strings. That was also the year his grandmother Gibson passed awayâ”the first major death in his life. âœUp until that time, I hadnâ™t really been exposed to mortality,â says Bryan. âœI was nowhere near being able to grasp the idea that this all wasnâ™t forever. • Cinematic Funk Cult Combo CALIBRO 35 Announce Their 7Th Studio Album “MOMENTUM”
DAN DEACON MYSTIC FAMILIAR OVERVIEW Dan Deacon, composer and performer, returns with his new studio album, Mystic Familiar. Following 2015’s Gliss Riffer, Dan embarked on a whirlwind of collaborative projects, scoring eight fi lms, including Rat Film and Time Trial; collaborating with choreographer Justin Peck on dance piece The Times Are Racing; producing and co-writing with Ed Schrader’s Music Beat; and performing with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. While fulfi lling, these projects all lacked one instrument: Dan’s voice. During this time, solo writing became his personal oasis, taking on an exploratory new direction informed by his newly adopted therapeutic practices of self-compassion and mindfulness, daily prompts from Brian Eno’s Oblique Strategies, and meditation to access an inner well of creativity as discussed by David Lynch in Catching the Big Fish. TRACKLISTING The result is Mystic Familiar, 11 kaleidoscopic tracks of majestic synth-pop, and Dan Deacon’s 1. • Lightning Bolt Rips Aurora Apart
Lightning Bolt Rips Aurora Apart PHOTO CREDIT: Aaron Bressler What better way to kick off your week than getting your ears blown to bits with a bunch of emphatic noise? Lightning Bolt brought that and more to Aurora in Downcity on Mon, May 18 along with electro pop act Unicorn Hard- On, metal punks Extinction Machine and noisegaze act Cottaging. The roof was about to blow off the place, people shuffled in like a bunch of addicts looking for a fix and it was absolutely electrifying. Rhythmic ground zero was at Aurora and musical destruction was taking place. A crazy infectious band with a witty name (look at the definition), Cottaging kicked things off with the walls shaking. Loud and intense, this quartet brings the fury like few can with a hyper sense of distortion and sheer power. Imagine if Drive Like Jehu & My Bloody Valentine had a baby, then Cottaging would be its name. Fantastic riffs and screaming vocals gave the night an authoritative start; I’m very much looking forward to Cottaging’s next show and I’m sure everyone else that was at Aurora on Monday will as well. With Olneyville Sound System’s Dan St. Jacques being a mad man on the mic, Dropdead’s Bob Otis unleashing fury on guitar, Revival Brewing’s Sean Larkin and Lolita Black’s Kaleigh Crass forming a flawless rhythm section on bass and drums, Extinction Machine annihilated everything in sight. They fused sludge metal and hardcore punk together to form an arsenal that conquered the crowd. The walls continued shaking and the music got louder and louder.

  • The New Yorker
Kindle Edition, 2015 © The New Yorker COMMENT UNCLEAR DANGERS BY AMY DAVIDSON In the past few weeks, a certain map has been causing a lot of discussion online and, particularly, in Texas. It shows seven states in the Southwest color-coded as red and “hostile” (Texas, Utah), or blue and “permissive” (California, Colorado, Nevada), or designated “uncertain” but leaning toward hostile (New Mexico) or toward friendly (Arizona). The map also features a circle zeroing in on Texas and acronyms associated with the military. To numerous observers, its meaning is clear: it is a plan for a U.S. military takeover of Texas and beyond, or, perhaps, a rehearsal for civil war and the enforcement of martial law. Resistance is anticipated in some areas, such as the part of Southern California marked as an “insurgent pocket.” The Pentagon quickly explained that the map was actually a prop in a large-scale but routine training exercise called Jade Helm 15, scheduled to take place this summer. Blue and red are standard colors on war-game maps and unconnected to, say, voting patterns. But the theorists were unpersuaded, and the code name seemed to excite them further. (Jade—a reference to China?) Some pointed to several Walmart stores that had abruptly closed and might now, they said, be used as internment camps run by FEMA . (Walmart says it isn’t so—sometimes stores just close.) The matter might have been dismissed as another one of those things that happen on the Internet if Greg Abbott, the governor of Texas, had not sprung into action.

  • Alt-Nation: Lightning Bolt’
Alt-Nation: Lightning Bolt’s Latest and Other Electrifying Shows Lightning Bolt – Fantasy Empire (Thrill Jockey) The first time I experienced the rush of Lightning Bolt live was sometime in the late ’90s. I was talking to someone when Lightning Bolt, without any fanfare, launched a full-on assault. I could barely see through the crowd that was going apeshit huddled around the band playing on the floor, per usual. I had to get closer. Their intensity was like a tractor beam sucking you into the fire of the pit with the adrenaline rush of a rock show. They get saddled with the noise rock tag, which is understandable to a certain extent. But their tunes had this element of experimental jazz where they pound and carve up squalls of feedback to push the song into another dimension. Lightning Bolt will be forever linked to the legendary Fort Thunder — an abandoned warehouse in Eagle Square started by drummer Brian Chippendale and his college roommate. Fort Thunder really harkened the rise of the whole Providence noise rock and Olneyville warehouse scene that is still going today. Fort Thunder grew to host national and local shows as an under-the-radar word-of-mouth thing till the city stepped in and shut it down. But nobody has been able to stop Lighting Bolt. They continue to roll like a freight train into their 21st year as a band. This month Lightning Bolt will release Fantasy Empire, their first full-length album since 2009’s Earthly Delights, although they did release an EP titled Oblivion Hunter in 2012.
