    Motif Music Award Winners On a rainy Tuesday night, an eclectic crowd of roughly 400 musicians and music lovers, from folk to hardcore, from hip-hop to EDM, gathered to swap stories, down drinks and receive awards. Thanks to all who came out, and thanks to the nearly 4,000 Motif readers who took the time to vote for their favorites. It was awesome to see so much talent in one room – in this case, at The Met Café in Pawtucket. Different styles, genres, ages and instruments all mixed together, including stand-out performances by the amazing School of Rock teens, the almost-performance-art random rock of The Viennagram, the acoustic stylings of Amanda Salemi and hip-hop duo DirtyDurdie. There was something for everyone, in what was probably the most eclectic mix of styles to share a Rhode Island stage in a very, very long time. Big thanks to all, as well as to our many presenters, hosts John Fuzek and BettySioux Tailor, Rhodies Food Truck (rhodiesfoodtruck.tumblr.com), and of course, The Met Café. Yes, there are winners (you picked ‘em!), but Motif puts on this awards show to celebrate all the amazing music and musical talent that’s fostered and we hope will thrive in our small-population, big- talent state.     Brian Gibson (musician) Brian Gibson (born July 25, 1975) is a musician and artist based out of Providence, Rhode Island. Gibson is best known as the bassist for the band Lightning Bolt. Sound[edit]. Brian Gibson is particularly known for his unique and complex set-up, tuning, and use of his bass guitar. The majority of Gibson's playing draws on fairly simple loops and major/minor chord structures, yet also employs more advanced guitar techniques, such as tapping. Gibson uses a high amount of distortion, feedback and effects. Brian Gibson (born July 25, 1975) is a musician and artist based out of Providence, Rhode Island. Gibson is best known as the bassist for the band Lightning Bolt. In the summer of 2015 he co-founded the game development company Drool. At Drool, he created the art and music for the video game Thumper and co-designed the game alongside Marc Flury. Thumper was released with critical acclaim in October 2016. Bryan Gibson grew up playing baseball, riding BMX bikes, and exploring the woods of the quaint town of Orangeburg, SC. It wasnâ™t until fourteen years after his birth on New Yearâ™s Eve that he picked up a guitar and tried his hand at a set of strings. That was also the year his grandmother Gibson passed awayâ”the first major death in his life. âœUp until that time, I hadnâ™t really been exposed to mortality,â says Bryan. âœI was nowhere near being able to grasp the idea that this all wasnâ™t forever. One of the ways she was abusing it was just what she was doing now, licking his ear when he was trying to sleep. Her tiny little tongue was surprisingly hot, and it startled him awake. “Amber!” he grunted incoherently. “I’m trying to sleep!” She gave one of her little squeaking yips, not quite a bark but somewhat similar to it, and jumped up onto his shoulder. She didn’t even weigh three pounds, she was so small, but her little claws were like needles as they kneaded into his shoulder. He groaned in frustration and swatted lightly in her general direction, but the little bundle of fur was not impressed by his attempts to shoo her away.

What I want to get, as you all know, is conversation about music and the Movement. And what I'm going to do—I'm not giving elaborate introductions. I'm going to go around the table and name who's here for the record, for the recorded record. Beyond that, I will depend on each one of you in your first, in this first round of comments to introduce yourselves however you wish. To the extent that I feel it necessary, I will prod you if I feel you've left something out that I think is important, which is one of the prerogatives of the moderator. Le guitariste Adam JONES justifie la création de TOOL en se fondant sur une théorie développée par l’auteur Ronald P. Vincent. En 1949, ce dernier publie une œuvre unique, A joyful guide to lachrymology, dans laquelle il proclame que la progression et le développement personnels nécessitent l’exploration de la douleur physique et de la peine. Vincent souhaite fonder une philosophie en ce sens, la lacrymologie. JONES conçoit la musique de son groupe comme un outil (« tool » en anglais) destiné à permettre au public de la comprendre. Quelques mois après la formation du groupe, Ronald P. Vincent décède d’une cirrhose ; le musicien étudie alors sans relâche son ouvrage. Curieuse motivation pour former un groupe ; il s’agit en vérité d’une pure invention ! Pas plus l’auteur que son ouvrage n’a existé. Né de l’imagination d’Adam JONES, ce mythe figure dans un historique distribué avec les copies promotionnelles de l’album Undertow (1993), et serait destiné à tourner en dérision les mouvements sectaires. Plus sérieusement, JONES rencontre le chanteur Maynard James KEENAN à Los Angeles en 1986.

    Antioch University COMMON THREAD JANUARY 25, 2018 SANTA BARBARA CAMPUS & COMMUNITY BEGIN RECOVERY FROM THOMAS FIRE AND MONTECITO FLOOD DISASTERS The Antioch University Santa Barbara campus and surrounding community was significantly impacted by the Thomas Fire -now measured as the largest wildfire in California history- in December 2017, and by the subsequent floods and mudslides in Montecito on January 9, 2018. At the time of writing this, twenty lives were confirmed lost and three are missing as a result of the mudslide tragedy. Highway 101, the only highway route in and out of the city toward the south, remains closed as Caltrans clears mud and debris. To say the least, our entire campus community has been tremendously impacted by the injury and loss of people we may know. In addition, many of us have experienced damage and loss of homes and property, as well as the impact of damaged infrastructure, isolation or disruption of transportation, and local economic impact. Antioch University has responded in a number of ways to generously support students, staff, and faculty in Santa Barbara. For example, AU increased the number of pro Zoom accounts for each academic department which allow faculty to include all students in their classes so that they may make academic progress. We remain grateful to first responders, search and rescue crews, and the current search and recovery teams in our area. The compassion and kindness demonstrated by the recovery teams has been appreciated as we mourn the loss of those in our community, and acknowledge the profound impact on each one of us.
