MYSTIC FAMILIAR OVERVIEW Dan Deacon, and performer, returns with his new studio , Mystic Familiar.

Following 2015’s Gliss Riffer, Dan embarked on a whirlwind of collaborative projects, scoring eight fi lms, including Rat Film and Time Trial; collaborating with choreographer Justin Peck on dance piece The Times Are Racing; producing and co-writing with Ed Schrader’s Music Beat; and performing with the Symphony Orchestra. While fulfi lling, these projects all lacked one instrument: Dan’s voice.

During this time, solo writing became his personal oasis, taking on an exploratory new direction informed by his newly adopted therapeutic practices of self-compassion and mindfulness, daily prompts from Brian Eno’s Oblique Strategies, and meditation to access an inner well of creativity as discussed by David Lynch in Catching the Big Fish. Cinematic funk cult combo CALIBRO 35 announce their 7th studio album “MOMENTUM”. LISTEN HERE Italian cult combo CALIBRO 35 release their highly anticipated 7th studio album “MOMENTUM” on January 24th 2020. “Momentum” follows “DECADE” their previous studio album released in 2018 that had marked 10 years of Calibro 35 and it stands out as a new starting point for the project. In the last 10 years Calibro 35 have dug the golden age of soundtracks and they had been to the future with “S.P.A.C.E.”, “Momentum”, as the band stated: "represents a look at nowadays and a reflection about making music right in the time that we’re living”. Peter White’s journey began as a member of Al Stewart’s band as a keyboardist. In addition to opening for artists like Linda Ronstadt, Billy Joel and Queen, White worked with Stewart in the studio in the making of Year of the Cat, which became a huge hit for Stewart in 1976. The tour and the album marked the beginning of a twenty-year association with Stewart. In that time, the two musicians co-wrote numerous songs, including Stewart’s 1978 hit, “Time Passages.” After fifteen years as a backup musician and a session player for Stewart and others, White launched his solo recording career with the 1990 release of Reveillez-Vous (French for “Wake up,” a title chosen by White in honor of his French mother). The album included several unused songs that White had written for Stewart, and it became a favorite among contemporary jazz radio stations, and kept him on that trajectory with many well received solo albums, and a thriving touring career, ever since.

Peter White composed all of the songs on this newest endeavor “Music for STARLUX Airlines”. He plays guitars, keyboards, harmonica, accordion - as well as programming, mixing and producing the project, with additional programming from D.C., Peter’s daughter, violist Charlotte White, accompanies him on the final track “Homeward Bound”.

Pacific Northwest isolation mixed with wide-eyed ambition, a strong sense of family and the gift of music proved to be quite the combination for teenage brothers Donnie and Joe Emerson. Originally released in 1979, Dreamin’ Wild is the sonic vision of the talented Emerson boys, recorded in a family built home studio in rural Washington State. Situated in the unlikely blink-and-you-missed- it town of Fruitland and far removed from the late 1970s punk movement and the larger boom, Donnie and Joe tilled their own musical soil, channeling bedroom pop jams, raw funk, and .

Spurred on their high school’s music program, Donnie and Joe received a further push from their lifelong farmer father, who drew up a contract stating that he’d support his sons lofty ambitions with their very own recording studio as long as they focused on original material, sage advice for a man with zero experience in the music business. After taking out a second mortgage to help cover costs, Don Sr. also built his children a 300-capacity concert hall (dubbed Camp Jammin’) replete with ticket booth, stage, and fully functioning snack bar. The only problem was that the projected audience never quite materialized, despite a prime time TV profile entitled “The Farmers” from nearby Spokane, Washington. Even the Emerson brother’s school pals were nonplussed at their privately pressed long player; hand distributed to local music stores, but not as far as Seattle, five hours away from their rural home. Somewhat rejected by the muted response, but never surrendering, both Donnie and Joe continued down a musical path and are still active as performers today.

This rare slice of bedroom-funk gets the usual Light In The Attic treatment with newly remastered audio, detailed liner notes, and expanded original album art with loads of photos from the Emerson’s collection. Moons is a sextet from Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Sung in English, Thinking Out Loud flows between soft and ethereal moments and guides you through bucolic and cozy landscapes with ten delicious songs made for calm, introspective and organic appreciation.

The camera goes slowly down a road. In the distance we see a cabin and walk in its direction. Through its window, a bonfire lights the place. We are gradually invited in. In the main room, there are scattered books, a guitar, a bottle of whiskey. The camera moves to the back door. Outside, there is a couple dressed in yesterday’s clothes. We pass them by and head to the lake, seen in the background. As we approach its waters, we get lost in the vastness of our thoughts.

The scene described above is fictional and could figure in some production that flirts with noir, nouvelle vague or some other work that emphasizes the simple moments of life. It could also synthesize the universe of Moons, a project idealized by André Travassos which started as a personal project and became a band. Moons is now releasing its second album, “Thinking Out Loud”.

Lost somewhere between Nick Drake’s melancholy, Bon Iver’s lo-fi sound, Bob Dylan’s classic folk, Wilco’s sophisticated country arrangements, with a cool twist that echoes Mazzy Star, Moons unites all these influences and creates songs that dialogue with different art languages. A painting by Matisse? A Godard movie? David Lynch? Bukowski’s literature? It all resonates in the band’s chords.

With these references in their minds and hearts, André Travassos (voice, guitar and autoharp), Bernardo Bauer (voice and bass), Digo Leite (voice, harmonica, banjo and guitar), Felipe D’Angelo (voice, keyboard, piano and guitar), Jennifer Souza (voice and guitar), Tiago Eiras (drums and percussion) and Victor Magalhães (keyboard, piano and synths) conceived “Thinking Out Loud” in a very organic way and realised it with Leonardo Marques, who recorded, mixed, mastered and co-produced this work at his Ilha do Corvo Studio.

But the process began some time before. The preproduction took form in the countryside, not far from Belo Horizonte, where Moons went twice, in 2017. There, immersed in its universe, the septet worked on and on in such an inspiring atmosphere that the melodies and arrangements emerged in a surprisingly natural way.

Back to Ilha do Corvo Studio, the band invited four special musicians, who enriched the work: the cellist Rodrigo Garcia (who had already participated in the first album, “Songs of Wood & Fire”); the producer and friend Leonardo Marques (who puts his unique guitar tones on “Hazy” and on the title track, besides playing bass in “Moons Reprise”); Rodrigo Viana (who plays the guitar on “Vik’s Dream”); and finally Thiakov (who plays the bass on “My Cave” and on the title track).

References to cinema and literature in this release are not in vain. The song “Fire Walks with Me”, for example, is a tribute to David Lynch and the Twin Peaks universe, whereas “Moons Reprise” was created from a dialogue between the characters Jane (Nastassja Kinski) and Travis (Harry Dean Stanton) in the film “, Texas”, by Wim Wenders. Moreover, “Hazy” was inspired by Charles Bukowski’s alter ego, Henry Chinaski.
