A, RNC INTELLIGENCE SITUATION REPORT 08-27 0700 hours FINAL REPORT The following is a synopsis of reported activities and relevant responses covering the period of 08/26/2004 1700 hours through 08/27/2004 0700 hours. TODAY'S EVENTS • Times Up to hold Critical Mass Bike Ride, tonight, 1900 hours, Union Square Park to an undisclosed location. There will be an after- party at the Frying Pan, located at Pier 63 (23rd Street and 12th Avenue). This event is capable of drawing between 2000 and 3000 bicyclists . This group has been known to intentionally obstruct vehicular traffic. • A31 Coalition to conduct press conference at City Hall, today at 1230 hours, on the Steps of City Hall. The A31 Coalition is organizing full day of multiple direct action(s) in New York City targeting the RNC on 31 August and participants considering diversionary tactics (false calls to 911 of rioting, etc.) • Green Dragon to Cross New York Harbor, today, 1400 hours. Green Dragon will stage a "Crossing of New York Harbor" event from Staten Island to Manhattan. The group will board the Staten Island Ferry at St. George Terminal on the S .I. side and travel to Manhattan. • NYC Service Workers, Veterans , City Council Member Charles Baron and Bill Perkins to Protest RNC's Impact on the City, today, 1245 hours, on the steps of City Hall. Approximately 40 members of "The September 11 Families for Peaceful Tomorrows" will continue its anti-war "Stonewalk" protest event and arrive at Fordham University in the Bronx. Participants are pulling a cart carrying a 1400 pound granite memorial honoring "Unknown Civilians Killed in War." • Long Island Activist Group "Suffolk Peace Network" to Conduct Protest Walk and rally in Queens today. At 1200 hours, the group will rally at the office of Congressman Gary Ackerman , located at 218th Street and Northern Blvd. The group will then march to Macedonia African Methodist Episcopal Church, located at 37-22 Union Street in the 107th Precinct, where at approximately 1830 hours, a "Dinner and Rally" will be held. • New York Civil Liberties Union to Hold Press Conference, today, at 1030 hours, at Protecting Protest Storefront, located at 520 Eighth Avenue in Manhattan to announce RNC protest efforts. • Group "ANSWER" and City Councilmember Charles Baron to Hold Press Conference, today, 1400 hours, on the steps of City Hall, to show support for protestors who want to demonstrate in Central Park. • War Resistors League/PAUSE - Palestinian Action of Union Square East, today, 1200 to 1400 hours, at Union Square Park. This weekly anti-war event is usually conducted by approximately 25 persons. • Live Broadcast of MSNBC in Herald Square, today, between 0700 and 1600 hours. MSNBC will be broadcasting live from Herald Square Park, located at West 34th Street and Broadway. Potential for a spontaneous direct action protest during this broadcast. • Unknown Activists to Conduct Mass "Die In" in Central Park, today, at approximately 1600 hours, in Central Park. Activists are being urged to meet and "Have a picnic lying down in the shape of the word NO" in protest of the war in Iraq. Will reportedly be photographed from above. • Group "Mothers Opposing Bush" to March Across Brooklyn Bridge, today, at approximately 0930 hours. The group will march from Cadman Plaza in Brooklyn Heights over the Brooklyn Bridge to an undisclosed location in Manhattan. Law Enforcement Sensitive Not. for public release. Approximately 100 people are expected to participate. • "Committee for Social Justice in Columbia" to Conduct Weekly Event, today, between 1700 and 1800 in front of the offices of Remy Amerique (makers of Cointreau Liquor) and again between 1800 to 1900 hours at Coca-Cola facility, 1h located at 7115 Avenue. This weekly protest is usually conducted by approximately 25 participants. • Immigrant Solidarity Network to Hold Indoor Event, today, between 1600 and 2200 hours at St. Marks Church located at 131 East 101Street. This is a "Speak Out" function that will include food, lectures and guest activist speakers. • Falun Gong to Conduct Protest at Phizer Corp, today, between 0700 and 1000 hours, at Phizer Corp. located at 220 East 42n Street in Manhattan. Approximately 10 persons are expected to participate. • City Councilman David Weprin to Hold Press Conference, today, at approximately 1030 hours, on the steps of City Hall to urge Governor Pataki to restore permanent tax exemptions. DEMONSTRATION ACTIVITIES: • UPDATE: 4 Arrests at "DNC2RNC" march o The "DNC2RNC" protest march, which originated from Saint Anthony's Church located at 156th Street and Melrose Avenue in the Bronx, continued through Central Park, and concluded in Union Square Park. The temporary identification card is marked valid only from 27 August through 3 September. The group is trying to raise awareness on civil rights and Arab concerns. Approximately 75,000 participants are expected. Parks Permit denied. • "Times Up" Downtown Cycling Tour, tomorrow, at 1100 hours, starting at East Houston Street, between Avenues B-C, then a ride throughout Lower Manhattan. This event is not being advertised as a "critical mass" event, unknown number of participants , potential to disrupt vehicular traffic with spontaneous direct action. No permit(s) were issued. • "Times Up and "Ring Out" bicycle ride, tomorrow, approximately 1700 hours, at the intersection of Albany and West Streets. Bicycle ride to undisclosed location in solidarity between the two activist groups. This event is not being advertised as a "critical mass" event, unknown number of participants, potential to disrupt vehicular traffic with spontaneous direct action. No permit was issued for this event. • "Ring Out.org" Ring out the Republicans, tomorrow, 1730 through 1930 hours, at Ground Zero. No permit was issued for this event. • "Times Up" Riverside Ride, tomorrow, at approximately 2200 hours, Columbus Circle through Central Park to Riverside Park. This event is not being advertised as a "critical mass" event, unknown number of participants, potential to disrupt vehicular traffic with spontaneous direct action. A permit was issued for this event. • "Planned Parenthood NYC" Protest, tomorrow, 1100 through 1400 hours, consisting of a march from Brooklyn side of the Brooklyn Bridge to City Hall Park.
