Due Date: Tues., Sept 18th (first part DUE) Name: Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) Program Contact: download application at www.gmsp.org Description: Students are eligible if they are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American – are a citizen or permanent resident, have attained a cumulative high school GPA of 3.3, will enroll as a full time degree seeking college student in Fall, have demonstrated leadership through participation in community service and extracurriculars and meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria. Due Date: Complete attached APP by OCTOBER 29th Name: Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Contact: Ms. Pearson Amount: $1,000 Description: Reavis can nominate ONE student to apply for this scholarship. Student must have a GPA of 2.8 or higher. Student demonstrates leadership abilities in school activities or through work experiences. Student shows a strong commitment to and involvement in community service. Student plans to attend an accredited, nonprofit college, university, or vocational/technical school in the United States. See Ms. Pearson in Guidance if you wish to seek a nomination. The new due date has yet to be posted, so please check back for current date. Due Date: Nov 15 Name: Small Business Supports Big Dreams The Chicago South Suburbs Small Business Clinic (www.css-sbc.com) is a local community event which brings national, state, and local business resources together each year for the purpose of supporting a vibrant business environment in and around the Chicago South Suburbs. The event is free to attend and is provided for through the generous donations of local businesses. Because the Small Business Clinic was not organized as a profit-motivated event, the organizing committee has voted in favor of ‘re-investing’ proceeds into the future of local businesses (i.e. college-bound business students.) This year’s event was organized by Midwest Business Consulting, the Bedford Park – Clearing Industrial Association, the Bridgeview Chamber of Commerce, and the Oak Lawn Chamber of Commerce. The organizing committee has approved four mini-stipends to be awarded to high school seniors who intend to pursue a business degree in college. Prizes will be as follows: 1st Prize $250 2nd – 4th Prizes $100 Who is Eligible? High school seniors from the following schools: Argo Community High School, Oak Lawn Community High School, Reavis High School, Richards High School, and Stagg High School. How to Participate? Submit a written paper, 250-words or less, that answers the following question: “What traits do you possess that will enhance your education or future career?” Papers should include the student’s name, email address, first college pick, and degree sought. Papers should have 1-inch margins, be doubled-spaced, justified text (size 11, Calibri Light), and submitted in pdf format to [email protected]. The subject line of the email should be “SBC 2018 Scholarship.” Papers are due by November 15, 2019; one submission per student; late submissions will ot be accepted. Winner will be announced on March 1, 2019. Due Date: November 20 Name: Cpl Phillip J. Brodnick Memorial Scholarship Fund Amount: $1,000 Contact: See Mrs. Pearson in Guidance nd Description: From Brodnick Family: “On August 22 , 2007, I lost my son, Phillip Brodnick, in a Blackhawk Helicopter accident which occurred in Northern Iraq. There is not a day that goes by that my heart does not ache for my son. He is the person I am proudest of, and he will forever be in my heart – he is my hero. In honor of him and to keep his memory forever alive, I have set up a Scholarship Fund in Phillip’s memory. This fund will disburse four $1,000 scholarships each year to two students from Reavis High School and St. Lawrence.” In order to be eligible you must be a citizen of the US, be a high school senior at one of the eligible high schools and you must submit a two page typed essay as to what your educational studies/goals are. Please also indicate: grants/scholarships awarded, what you have done to help finance your education, financial circumstances in which they should be aware and home address within the essay. For consideration, your essay must be submitted to Ms. Pearson in Guidance no later than November 20. Due Date: Nominations open mid- Sept (usually close January 2018) - KEEP CHECKING WEBSITE Name: Golden Apple Scholars of Illinois Amount: $2,500 per year, $2,000 summer program Contact: www.goldenapple.org Description: Requirements: 1 of 53 partner schools in Illinois, Major in Teaching, Nomination Info: The Golden Apple Scholarship provides $2,500 for Fresh/Soph years, and $5,000 Jr/Sr years paid directly to the partner Illinois university or college the Scholar attends, as well as an additional $2,000 each summer for attending Summer Institutes. Teachers, counselors, the principal and other non-family member adults are able to nominate a high school senior OR THE SENIOR MAY NOMINATE HIMSELF/HERSELF. The student must have a desire to teach in an Illinois school of need. The State of Illinois requires an ACT composite score of 22+ with a 6 on writing portion OR on SAT Composite score of 1110 (evidence-based reading and writing + mathematics = 1110 or higher) and a minimum score of 26 on writing and language. Due Date: December (National), February (Community Local Scholarship) - app avail starting in Sept - CHECK WEBSITE Name: AXA Achievement Scholarship (National and Community) Contact: Download both applications at: www.ax a-achievement.com Description: Applicants must be US citizen/legal resident, be students who reside and attend high school in AXA branch areas, be current high school seniors who plan to enroll full time in an accredited 2 or 4 year college or university in the US, be ambitious & motivated, as evidenced by outstanding achievement in school, community and/or work activities (Application link is on the right hand side of the web page under “learn more”) Applications should be available in September. Due Date: February 12 Name: Paramount Tall Club of Chicago and Tall Club International Amount: $750/$1,000 Contact: http://tallclubchicago.org/ AND www.tall.org Description: The Paramount Tall Club awards one $750 scholarship to a graduating high school senior who lives in the Chicagoland area. Applicants must meet the club’s height requirements to be eligible for the scholarship (5’10 for females and 6’2 for males). Download application on the website. Due Date: Feb 15 Name: Give Back Scholarship Amount: Full Tuition Contact: https://www.giveback.ngo/scholars-illinois/ th Description: The program is available to all 9 - grade students in Illinois. We select scholarship recipients early—in the ninth grade—in order to prepare them for college - however NON FRESHMEN students who have an incarcerated parent or have been in DCFS care can submit a special application. ● Preference will be given to students who have an incarcerated parent, foster children or students who have been homeless. ● Give Back scholars are low-income (Pell Grant eligible.) ● They are required to have a minimum 3.0 GPA in high school, take a college preparatory course load, and demonstrate strong character throughout the program. ● GSB has established partnerships with several excellent colleges in Illinois (Lewis University, Blackburn College, University of Illinois Urbana Champaign, and Illinois State University.) ● Students who are chosen will be able to attend college and the scholarship will fund tuition, room, and board. ● If a student is a non-freshman and have an incarcerated parent or have been in DCFS care and meet the academic/financial requirements of the program, they can submit a special application. ● To understand the Illinois application process in more detail please visit https://www.giveback.ngo/scholars-illinois/ Due Date: January (new application and deadline not yet posted) Name: CRC Relocation Scholarship Amount: $1,000 Contact: http://crcchicago.org/page-1152428, or send any questions to [email protected] Description: CRC is sponsoring a scholarship program for current high school seniors who th have relocated into the Chicago area sometime between grades 9 (after 8 grade graduation) and 12. CRC would like to encourage your students to apply. One one-time award of $1,000 will be presented to one Chicago-area high school senior for 2019. The award will be sent to the college that the student will be attending to assist with tuition, etc. CRC will select scholarship winners based on the strength of their total application package. The student will be evaluated on academic performance, extracurricular activities, and on their response to an essay addressing the way they handled
