Please Note That This Is My Entire List of Scholarships (Over 180 Pages So Save It but Don’T Print It) Scholarship List 2018-2019 Deadline date verified Please note that this is my entire list of scholarships (over 180 pages so save it but don’t print it). Pages 2-5 list reoccurring scholarships that you can enter monthly or quarterly. They are mostly drawings rather than merit based and therefore harder to win. Starting on page 6, the scholarships are listed in order of deadlines (August – August). You will need to scroll down to the current month to access the available scholarships, but you can also look ahead for what is coming in the next few months or see what scholarships you missed but might be able to apply next year. Please note that most scholarships that are due in the fall are national scholarships and very competitive. February, March and April are when most LOCAL scholarships are due and have less competition. Organization is key when applying for scholarships. Here is how to read my list: Column 1 Scholarship name with link to website Sponsor’s name Date added/updated Column 2 Deadline date (if highlighted in green it has been verified for this year) Always double check the deadline on the website because sometimes they make changes. Also, confirm whether it must be POSTMARKED (the day you take it to the Post Office) or RECEIVED by the deadline date. Column 3 Award amount Column 4 Eligibility requirements such as age, grade level, GPA… (if you don’t meet these, don’t apply) Column 5 Application requirements (what you have to do to apply) Remember that I recommend you create a professional sounding email that you use specifically for scholarships as applying to these type of scholarships result in lots of emails (some useful, some not so much). Now, start applying! If you have questions or want me to review your applications/essays, just let me know. I am here to help YOU! Respectfully, Karen Denney College & Career Readiness Coordinator Updated 4/2/19 1 Scholarship List 2018-2019 Deadline date verified MONTHLY/QUARTERLY DRAWINGS While these are easy to apply for they are hard to win and usually they just want your contact information to email you stuff. ADDISON TRAIL HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION Protecting Yourself from Scholarship Scams 1. If you must pay money to get money, it might be a scam. 2. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. 3. Spend the time, not the money. 4. Never invest more than a postage stamp to get information about scholarships. 5. Legitimate scholarship foundations do not charge application fees. 6. If you're suspicious of an offer, it's usually with good reason. Don’t be fooled by an official sounding name. Words like “National,” “Foundations,” or “Administration” in the title doesn’t mean it is a legitimate operation. A few tips regarding scholarship applications As the student, it is your responsibility to READ and follow all Scholarship instructions, and request your official transcript from the registrar (Mrs. Tornabene) in person. Please complete a gold transcript request form for each official transcript requested. • A Different Kind of Star Athlete in a Year of Scandal, a Reminder of Why We Root by BRYAN GRULEY Staff Reporter of the WALL STREET JOURNAL Updated Dec
A Different Kind Of Star Athlete In a year of scandal, a reminder of why we root By BRYAN GRULEY Staff Reporter of THE WALL STREET JOURNAL Updated Dec. 10, 2005 12:01 a.m. ET CHICAGO -- You've probably never heard of Tim Breslin. He played forward for the Chicago Wolves, a minor-league hockey team. A year ago, he was diagnosed with a rare cancer. In eleven weeks, at the age of 37, he was dead. What happened next is a lesson in what sports is supposed to be about. Despite what the media show us, it really isn't about millionaire athletes lambasting teammates on ESPN. It isn't about people with God-given talent taking banned substances for an edge, or how many strippers can fit on a charter boat. It isn't even about winning the Super Bowl or signing a $100 million contract. For every Terrell Owens, there are millions of women and men who play not for riches or glory but for the sheer joy of competing. Tim Breslin was one. He loved being on a team, with his guys, on the ice. He would've loved to play in the National Hockey League, too, but when he fell short, he kept playing anyway and made a living at it. A community grew up around him -- guys who played with him as kids, guys who played with him later, guys who knew guys who played with him, along with wives and girlfriends and coaches and Zamboni drivers, an ever-widening circle of people who love a peculiar game.
