SCHOLARSHIP SCOOP February 2018 A detailed list of available scholarships Scholarships are listed in three categories: General; College Specific and Local All scholarships listed here can be found on Naviance. Students are also encouraged to check with each college/university they are applying to for additional scholarship opportunities. If a scholarship requires a nomination by the high school, students must let their counselor know they wish to be considered. General Scholarships Deadline Caring Women’s Connection – Seniors 2/1/2018 This $3000 scholarship is available to any graduating high school senior who has performed 50 hours of verifiable community service, has maintained a GPA of 3.0/4.0 in Math, Science and English, and will be enrolled full-time at an accredited 2 or 4 year college, university or vocational school. Applications are available at: www.caringwomensconnection.com General Henry Dearborn American History Scholarship - Seniors 2/1/2018 This $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a student who plans on majoring in American History. The student is not limited to study in an institution of higher learning in Illinois and the scholarship is not based on financial need. Applications are available on Naviance. Illinois Daughters of the American Revolution-North Shore Chapter - Seniors 2/1/2018 A total of seven $1000 scholarships will be awarded, one per each Illinois DAR chapter. These scholarships are offered to graduating seniors who are U. S. citizens and will be attending college in Illinois. These scholarships are based primarily on need and require a letter of endorsement from the sponsoring chapter, the North Shore Chapter. Applications are available on Naviance. American Meteorological Society Freshman Undergraduate Scholarship – All Students 2/2/2018 This program, which is open to all high school students, provides a $5000 scholarship to encourage students to study in the atmospheric and related sciences. Information is available at: https://www.ametsoc.org/ams/index.cfm/information-for/students/ams-scholarships-and-fellowships/ams- freshman-undergraduate-scholarship/ We the Students Scholarship Contest – All Students 2/5/2018 Sponsored by the Bill of Rights Institute, this scholarship recognizes students who have demonstrated an interest for civics, citizenship, history, government or economics and are passionate about the founding principles. Awards range from $5000-1st; $3000-2nd; $1500-3d & $300 HM. Application and information is available at: http://billofrightsinstitute.org/engage/students-programs-events/scholarship Davidson Fellows Scholarships – All Students 2/8/2018 The Davidson Fellows Scholarship awards $50,000, $25,000 and $10,000 scholarships to extraordinary young people who have completed a significant piece of work. Significant work is an accomplishment that experts in the field recognize as meaningful and has the potential to make a positive contribution to society. Application categories are Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Literature, Music, Philosophy and Outside the Box. Applicants must be 18 or younger as of October 1; be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident residing in the United States, or be stationed overseas due to active military duty. Applications available at: http://www.davidsongifted.org/Fellows Luminarts Cultural Foundation – All Students 2/9/2018 Supports exemplary high school students in jazz and classical music, and creative writing through the high school awards. Applications and specific details about the program including guidelines is available at: http://luminarts.org Paramount Tall Club of Chicago (PTC) – Seniors 2/12/2018 One $750 Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating high school senior who lives in the Chicagoland area and meets the height requirements of the club, 5’10’’ for females and 6’2” for males and will attend either a 2-year or 4- year college in the fall. Applications are available at: www.tallclubchicago.org Golden Apple Scholars of Illinois - Seniors 2/15/2018 This scholarship program identifies talented high school seniors who have the promise and drive to be excellent (Regular) teachers in high-need schools. Golden Apple Scholars will receive a total of $23,000 in scholarships and stipends to attend one of 52 Illinois partner universities and must agree to teach for five years in an Illinois school that serves low income students. Applicants may be nominated by a teacher or school official or may self-nominate. Applications and have different information is available at: www.co-op.edu deadlines Illinois Realtors Bicentennial Essay Contest – All Students 2/15/2018 We want to hear what "Home Is Where the Heart Is" means to you. The contest is open to Illinois high school students in grades nine through 12 attending public, private or home schools. Essays must be a minimum of 500 words but can be no more than 700 words and must be the original work of the student. Applications are available at: www.cognitoforms.com Illinois PTA Lillian Glover Scholarship - Seniors 2/15/2018 Two scholarships, $3000 and $2000, will be awarded to graduating seniors in the State of Illinois who are enrolling in a college or university in Education or an Education-related degree program, which may include: Librarians, Instructional Media Specialists, School Nurses, School Psychologists, or Social Workers (all of which require certification from a State Board of Education). Applications are available online at www.illinoispta.org Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship – Seniors 2/15/2018 The Jackie Robinson Foundation (JRF) provides a multi-faceted experience to address the financial needs of minority students who aspire to attend college as well as guide them through the process of higher education. Recipients will receive four–year scholarships of up to $7,500 per year to attend a four–year accredited college or university of their choice. Additionally, JRF scholars participate in an extensive four-year program that includes mentoring, leadership development, practical skill-building, internship and job counseling and placement, as well as many networking opportunities. Applications are available beginning November 1 at: http://www.jackierobinson.org/apply Scholarships for Military Children - Seniors 2/16/2018 The program will award $2000 scholarships and is open to sons and daughters of active duty, reserve/guard, or retired military commissary customers. Each recipient must be planning to enroll full-time in a four-year undergraduate college or university, accredited in the U. S. and must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 basis. Application are available at: www.militaryscholar.org Beta Sigma Psi Martin Luther Scholarship – Male Seniors 2/17/2018 The recipient will receive $2,000 towards tuition and fees at any accredited 4-year College or University in the United States. Applicants must be male, a confirmed member of the Lutheran congregation and beginning his college studies in the fall. Applications are available at: www.betasigmapsi.org Illinois Chemical Education Foundation (ICEF) -Seniors 2/23/2018 The ICEF awards a number of $2000 scholarships to honor and recognize seniors who have exemplified outstanding Postmark achievement in academics, extracurricular and/or employment activities and community involvement. Information Inactive is available online at: www.cicil.net Patient Advocate Scholarship for Survivors – All Students 2/24/2018 Twelve $3,000 scholarships will be awarded to individuals that are legal residents of the United States, under the age of 25, who have been diagnosed with or treated for cancer, a chronic, or life threatening debilitating disease within the past five years. Information is available at: www.patientadvocate.org Teendrive365 Video Challenge – All Students 2/28/2018 Create your video with a solution to end distracted driving any way you like, but be sure to include the TeenDrive365 end frame at the very end. You can download this end frame from the Video Challenge homepage. Awards will range from $1000-$15000. Information is available at: http://www.teendrive365inschool.com/teens/video-challenge Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Rebekahs of Illinois -Seniors 3/1/2018 Scholarships ranging from $1000-$1500 will be awarded to students based on financial need and scholastic ability. Applicants must be a resident of Illinois and a U.S. citizen, maintaining a “C” average, and planning to continue their education at a post-secondary school or an accredited vocational/technical school. Applications are available online at www.ioof-il.org Christopher Martinat NOLS Scholarship (NOLS-National Outdoor Leadership School) – All Students 3/1/2018 This scholarship fully funds tuition for a month-long NOLS experience in the Rocky Mountains. Must be 16 years of age, a resident of Lake Forest, Lake Bluff or Knollwood. Applications are available on Naviance and in the CCRC American Chemical Society Scholars Program – Seniors 3/1/2018 Renewable scholarships of up to $5,000 will be awarded to African American, Hispanic and American Indian students who want to enter the fields of chemistry or chemistry-related fields, such as environmental science, toxicology and
