ADDISON TRAIL HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION Protecting Yourself from Scholarship Scams 1. If you must pay money to get money, it might be a scam. 2. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. 3. Spend the time, not the money. 4. Never invest more than a postage stamp to get information about scholarships. 5. Legitimate scholarship foundations do not charge application fees. 6. If you're suspicious of an offer, it's usually with good reason. Don’t be fooled by an official sounding name. Words like “National,” “Foundations,” or “Administration” in the title doesn’t mean it is a legitimate operation. A few tips regarding scholarship applications As the student, it is your responsibility to READ and follow all Scholarship instructions, and request your official transcript from the registrar (Mrs. Tornabene) in person. Please complete a gold transcript request form for each official transcript requested. It is YOUR responsibility to pick up the requested transcript from the Registrar’s Office and then.... for “In School” Scholarships submit the complete Scholarship Application to Mrs. Grady and make sure you meet your deadlines… 3:15 PM of deadline date! Thanks and best of luck to you! JANUARY 2014 ADDISON COUNCIL PTA SCHOLARSHIP The Addison Council PTA is offering (2) $500 one year, non-renewable scholarships. Students must graduate from an Addison High School and enroll in an institution of higher learning. Applicants must also have attended an Addison District #4 School. Applications are available in the Guidance Office. The deadline is March 24, 2014. COLLEGE OF DUPAGE PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARS AWARD & DUPAGE SCHOLARS AWARD The College of DuPage is offering Presidential DuPage Scholars Awards for 2014 Graduates. This full tuition scholarship will be awarded to qualified 2014 graduates. To be considered, students must have a composite ACT Score of 27 or higher OR an unweighted GPA of 3.75 on a 4.0 scale or better on seventh semester high school transcript. Applications are available online at htttp://www.cod.edu/scholarships. The deadline is February 28, 2014. SONS OF CONFEDERATE VETERANS SCHOLARSHIP The Sons of Confederate Veterans is offering a $1000 scholarship to a graduating senior, male or female, who resides in Illinois and who will be enrolling in the fall at a community college, college or university. Applicants must be a descendant of a male who served honorably in the Army, Navy, Judicial, Executive, or Civil Service of the Confederate States of America. Applications are available in the Guidance Office. The deadline is March 15, 2014. DUPAGE COUNTY FARM BUREAU FOUNDATION ARNOLD OESTMANN SCHOLARSHIP This newly created scholarship has no agriculture studies requirement, however to be eligible, the applicant’s parents must be members in good standing of the DuPage County Farm Bureau for at least two years prior to January 2014. Applications are available in the Guidance Office. The deadline is May 1, 2014. PRINCE OF PEACE LUTHERAN CHURCH SCHOLARHIP This one-time $1000 Scholarship will be awarded to graduating senior attending a postsecondary institution in the Fall of 2014 and who exemplifies commitment to community service, academics and demonstrated leadership. All applicants must be seniors at Addison Trail High School and must plan to attend an accredited Two or Four-Year College or University. Applicants must possess a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above. Applications are available in the Guidance Office. The deadline is February 14, 2014. BUICK ACHIEVERS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM The Buick Achievers Scholarship Program celebrates motivated, passionate college bound students who have succeeded both inside and outside of the classroom, and who may not be able to attend college without financial assistance. Applicants should be enrolling as a full-time freshmen at a 4-year college/university, plan to major in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, Design and are interested in the automotive or related industries. AES ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP AES Engineering is pleased to continue to offer $500 scholarships to motivated students. The belief is that achieving a high grade point average should not be the only criteria for determining scholarship recipients. This scholarship is awarded on the basis of character, as determined by the evaluated essays submitted. Scholarships are intended for future leaders across a wild spectrum of fields of study, their commitment to community service, academics, and demonstrated leadership. AXA ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP The AXA Achievement Scholarship is now available to current high school seniors who plan to enroll full-time in an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the U.S. by fall of 2014. The applicant must demonstrate ambition and self-drive as evidence by outstanding achievement in an activity in school, community or the work place. The 2014 program will be accepting applications from October 15, 2013 until 10,000 applications are submitted or 11:59 p.m. CST on February 1, 2014, whichever comes first. Your application MUST be one of the first 10,000 submitted electronically by the deadline date. Apply early and online at HTTP://WWW.AXA-ACHIEVEMENT.COM. The deadline is February 1, 2014. DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY—GLEN ELLYN CHAPTER--SCHOLARSHIP Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is an international, not-for-profit public service organization whose membership is predominantly African-American females. The Glen Ellyn Chapter services the Chicago’s western suburbs and is offering a four-year academic scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded to a deserving high school senior based on his/her academic potential, financial need, and a personal interview. Applications are available in the Guidance Office. The deadline is February 7, 2014. CHICAGO ROOFING CONTRACTORS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP The Chicago Roofing Contractors Association will award at least one $3000 scholarship to a high school senior who will enter college in the Fall of 2014. Applicants must be entering into the fields of liberal arts and sciences, engineering, architecture or business. Please note the minimum ACT score is 28 to apply. Applications are available online at HTTP://WWW.CRCA.ORG. The deadline is March 3, 2014. TIM BRESLIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP The Chicago Wolves are proud to once again present the Tim Breslin Memorial Scholarship, which awards one student a semester of college tuition. The Chicago Wolves created this scholarship to honor Tim, a former Wolves Player (Addison, IL native & Driscoll Catholic High School graduate) and staunch supporter of our community outreach programs, who passed away in 2005 due to complications from appendiceal cancer. The tuition award can be used towards any university or college across the country, not just Illinois schools. We welcome students of any age to apply, but please remember this scholarship has a mandatory minimum 3-year waiting period from the time it is awarded until the winning student can use it. ROBERT MORRIS UNIVERSITY NURSING SCHOLARSHIP Robert Morris University is offering a $15,000 annual scholarship for seniors accepted into their Nursing Program for Fall 2014. ITALIAN CATHOLIC FEDERATION SCHOLARSHIP The Italian Catholic Federation Scholarship is a $400 scholarship awarded to a Catholic graduating Senior of Italian decent. Applicants must have at least a 3.2 GPA and demonstrate financial need. Applications are available in the Guidance Office and on-line at HTTP://WWW.ICF.ORG. The deadline is March 15, 2014. ILLINIOS LUMBER & MATERIAL DEALERS SCHOLARSHIP The Illinois Lumber & Material Dealers Education Foundation is not-for-profit organization established to aid and promote lumber industry education throughout Illinois. The number of scholarships and the dollar amounts vary, but range between $500--$1000. Applications are available in the Guidance Office. The deadline is March 14, 2013. AMVETS SCHOLARSHIP The Illinois AMVETS Scholarship Applications are now available in the Guidance Office, on-line at HTTP://WWW.ILAMVETS.ORG, or by calling 1-800-638-8387. Two scholarships are available: Service Foundation Scholarship and Ladies Auxillary Scholarship. The deadline is March 1, 2014. PARAMOUNT TALL CLUB OF CHICAGO & TALL CLUB INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP The Paramount Tall Club of Chicago awards one $750.00 Scholarship to a graduating high school senior who lives in the Chicagoland area. The PTC Scholarship can be used toward tuition expenses and will be paid directly to the college or university. Applicants must meet minimum height requirements of 5’10” for females and 6’2” for males. Applications are available in the Guidance Office and online at HTTP://WWW.TALLCLUBCHICAGO.ORG. Applications must be postmarked by the deadline of January 27, 2014. INDEPENDENT ORDER OF ODD FELLOWS-REBEKAH SCHOLARSHIP The Independent Order of Odd Fellows-Rebekah Scholarship awards both $500 and $1000 scholarships to needy students every year.
