  • Gyn/Ecology the Metaethics of Radical Feminism
GYN/ECOLOGY THE METAETHICS OF RADICAL FEMINISM MARY DALY Beacon Press : Boston : 1978 N.B. Transcript omits footnotes and citations. PREFACE This book voyages beyond Beyond God the Father. It is not that I basically disagree with the ideas expressed there. I am still its author, and thus the situation is not comparable to that of The Church and the Second Sex, whose (1968) author I regard as a reformist foresister, and whose work I respectfully refute in the New Feminist Postchristian Introduction to the 1975 edition. Going beyond Beyond God the Father involves two things. First, there is the fact that be-ing continues. Be-ing at home on the road means continuing to Journey. This book continues to Spin on, in other directions/dimensions. It focuses beyond christianity in Other ways. Second, there is some old semantic baggage to be discarded so that Journeyers will be unencumbered by malfunctioning (male-functioning) equipment. There are some words which appeared to be adequate in the early seventies, which feminists later discovered to be false words. Three such words in BGTF which I cannot use again are God, androgyny, and homosexuality. There is no way to remove male/masculine imagery from God. Thus, when writing/speaking “anthropomorphically” of ultimate reality, of the divine spark of be-ing, I now choose to write/speak gynomorphically. I do so because God represents the necrophilia of patriarchy, whereas Goddess affirms the life-loving be-ing of women and nature. The second semantic abomination, androgyny, is a confusing term which I sometimes used in attempting to describe integrity of be-ing.

  • Rock Album Discography Last Up-Date: September 27Th, 2021
Rock Album Discography Last up-date: September 27th, 2021 Rock Album Discography “Music was my first love, and it will be my last” was the first line of the virteous song “Music” on the album “Rebel”, which was produced by Alan Parson, sung by John Miles, and released I n 1976. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.

  • The Conflicted Art of Cynthia Ozick
"Greek Mind/Jewish Soul, I predict, will quickly be recognized as the best work done on Ozick, by far, and one of the best books we have on a contem- porary modern writer."—Frank Lentricchia, Series Editor Since the 1970s, Cynthia Ozick's stories, novels, and essays have gradually earned high critical acclaim. Victor Strandberg's Greek Mind /Jewish Soul is a comprehensive study of this exceptionally gifted author, correlating her creative art and her intellectual development. Strandberg devotes considerable attention to Ozick's struggle to maintain her Jewish religion and culture within a society saturated with Christian and secular values. By examining the influence of Western philosophical and literary traditions on Ozick and her particular social cir- cumstances, Strandberg is able to ask larger questions about the merit of Ozick's work and its place within American literature. Strandberg begins by chronicling the cultural dilemmas of Ozick's early life. The daughter of struggling immigrant parents, Ozick sometimes endured anti-Semitic ostracism from classmates in the New York public schools. But even as she deeply immersed herself in her Judaic heritage, avidly learning Hebrew and studying Jewish history, she found the gentile heritage irresistible, beginning with fairy tales in childhood and graduating to George Eliot, Edith Wharton, and Henry James. Her studies in Latin likewise awakened a love for classical literature that impinged powerfully upon her books, particularly Trust and The Pagan Rabbi. By drawing on a range of sources, including his own ten-year correspondence with Ozick, Strandberg illuminates Ozick's thinking on volatile issues that trou- bled her during her formative years, including feminism, the Holocaust, and Jewish cultural survival.

Journey Of Souls by Michael Newton Table of Contents • Death and Departure • Gateway to the Spirit World • Homecoming • The Displaced Soul • Orientation • Transition • Placement • Our Guides The Beginner Soul • The Intermediate Soul • The Advanced Soul • Life Selection • Choosing a New Body • Preparation for Embarkation • Rebirth Introduction You would know the hidden realm where all souls dwell. The journey's way lies through death's misty fell. Within this timeless passage a guiding light does dance, Lost from conscious memory, but visible in trance. M.N. ARE you afraid of death? Do you wonder what is going to happen to you after you die? Is it possible you have a spirit which came from somewhere else and will return there after your body dies, or is this just wishful thinking because you are afraid? It is a paradox that humans, alone of all creatures of the Earth, must repress the fear of death in order to lead normal lives. Yet our biological instinct never lets us forget this ultimate danger to our being. As we grow older, the specter of death rises in our consciousness. Even religious people fear death is the end of personhood. Our greatest dread of death brings thoughts about the nothingness of death which will end all associations with family and friends. Dying makes all our earthly goals seem futile. If death were the end of everything about us, then life indeed would be meaningless. However, some power within us enables humans to conceive of a hereafter and to sense a connection to a higher power and even an eternal soul.

1 Grave Robbers’ Chronicles Vol. 8: The Finale Written By: Xu Lei Translated by: MereBear 2 Summary: In order to rectify Uncle Three’s business in Changsha, Wu Xie put on a human skin mask and pretended to be Uncle Three. Wu Xie, Pan Zi, Xiao Hua, and others went to Guangxi from Hangzhou, Changsha, and Beijing. In the village of Banai in Guangxi, Wu Xie (still pretending to be Uncle Three) met Qiu Dekao’s team again and saw Ghost, a man whose shoulders had melted and collapsed. They found that Ghost was a member of the archaeological team that went to the Zhang family’s ancient building thirty years ago, and was also named Zhang Qiling! Was Ghost the key to solving all these secrets? Driven by Ghost, they finally delved deep into the great secret of the vast and strange mountains—a group of Miluotuo who lived on cannibalism were in the mountains, and the passage to the secret location of the ancient building was very dangerous and treacherous if they delayed! • The Promise of Object-Oriented Ontology Timothy Morton
Here Comes Everything: The Promise of Object-Oriented Ontology Timothy Morton [forthcoming in Qui Parle] Generations have trod, have trod, have trod; And all is seared with trade; bleared, smeared with toil; And wears man's smudge and shares man's smell: the soil Is bare now, nor can foot feel, being shod. And for all this, nature is never spent; There lives the dearest freshness deep down things. (Gerard Manley Hopkins, “God's Grandeur,” 5–10)1 The experience of nothingness comes neither from concepts nor from grammatical negation in sentences. (Graham Harman, Heidegger Explained, 176)2 The ecological crisis stimulated two flavors of reaction: regular (normative ecophilosophy) and cool (the effervescent philosophical movement known “speculative realism”). The regular flavor conjures up the good old days when things meant what they said and said what they meant. Initial forays into literary ecocriticism were Trojan horses for a replay of 1970s and 1980s theory wars. For theory, read Derrida. The cool flavor fizzes with future-- the bliss of new thinking, more at home with the shock of ecological reality. The regular flavor is somewhat theistic, while the cool flavor is somewhat nihilistic. The regular flavor establishes Nature as an object of reverent admiration; the cool flavor asserts the deep mystery of a Non-Nature. I've argued elsewhere that the concept Nature is self-defeating in ecological 2 philosophy, art and politics.3 This applies to any reified substrate whatsoever, any “Non-Nature.” In this essay I argue that to say “There is no Nature” is different from saying “There is a Non-Nature.” What we should think asserts neither Nature nor Non-Nature, single, solid and “over yonder.” What we should think is far from the cool nihilism of non-Nature, and far from some “realism of the remainder,” a la Derrida or Žižek.

  • Science, Politics, and Soul-Making: the Romantic Encounter with Climate Change
SCIENCE, POLITICS, AND SOUL-MAKING: THE ROMANTIC ENCOUNTER WITH CLIMATE CHANGE BY MICHAEL VERDERAME DISSERTATION Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in English in the Graduate College of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 2017 Urbana, Illinois Doctoral Committee: Professor Gillen Wood, Chair Professor Robert Markley Professor Ted Underwood Associate Professor Julia Saville ii Abstract The Romantic movement in British literature coincided with new breakthroughs in meteorology and climatology, allowing scientists for the first time to understand the earth’s weather as a global, interactive system, as well as to begin to trace the possible influence of human civilization upon it. The end of the Little Ice Age, the acceleration of anthropogenic global warming resulting from the Industrial Revolution, and a series of volcanic eruptions causing major shocks to the global climate system all provided reference points for Romantic writers to challenge and rethink the relationship between humans and their climate. Focusing on several major writers from 1780 to 1880 (William Cowper, Percy Shelley, Mary Shelley, John Keats and John Ruskin), I argue that an epistemic shift occurred in the way Britons understood their own climate’s history and its relationship to the earth’s climate. Using an ecohistorical method that combines close historical inquiry and insights from meteorology, climatology, geology, and volcanology with theoretical frameworks derived from environmental criticism, I argue this period, in no small part due to the influence of creative writers, saw a new sense of the earth’s climate as contingent, dynamic, globally interconnected, and shaped by human actors, rather than stable and fixed.
