À l'extrême pointe de la botte, l'Aspromonte, face à la Sicile et à l'Etna, domine le détroit de Messine ou il fait bon se baigner ! PROGRAMME JOUR 1 Vol France - Reggio Calabria (ou Lamezia Terme). Transfert dans le centre ville de Reggio Calabria et installation en chambre d'hôtes. Selon votre heure d'arrivée, visite possible du Musée archéologique national qui conserve la mémoire des ères préhistorique, grecque et romaine, de grandes statues, les Bronzes de Riace et la Tête du philosophe. Repas libres. hôtel ***. JOUR 2 Scilla - Orti. Le matin, balade autour de Scilla et du pittoresque village de pêcheurs de Chianalea. Baignade possible selon la saison. Randonnée à travers l'odorant maquis méditerranéen par un sentier en balcon dominant Reggio jusqu'au village d'Orti. Cet itinéraire permet de découvrir le vaste panorama du détroit de Messine avec la Sicile et les Iles Éoliennes et l'Etna en toile de fond. En fin d'après-midi transfert pour Gambarie. Nuit et repas du soir en hôtel ***. Temps de marche : 4h. Dénivelé : + 400m. JOUR 3 Gambarie - Mausolée de Garibaldi Randonnée dans une très belle forêt de pins laricio et de hêtres jusqu'au Mausolée qui commémore la bataille qu'y livra l'artisan de l'unité italienne et ses partisans contre les troupes piémontaises et où il fut blessé et fait prisonnier. En toutes saisons les forêts de l'Aspromonte sont un véritable paradis pour les mycologues. Retour par le petit lac de Rumia. Nuit et repas du soir en hôtel ***. Temps de marche : 5h30. Dénivelé : + 350m / - 350m. JOUR 4 Gambarie - Roccaforte del Greco - Bova Transfert au village perché de Roccaforte del Greco dont le nom évoque le souvenir de la Grande Grèce (Magna Græcia). Notre randonnée se poursuit par le site très spectaculaire du village abandonné de Roghudi, dominant la « fiumara » d'Amendolea, avant de parvenir à Bova où subsiste encore une importante communauté grecque. Repas du soir et nuit en chambre d'hôtes réparties dans le village à Bova. Possibilité de raccourcir l'étape à 4h de marche et +600m /-200m Temps de marche : 6h. Dénivelé : + 900m / - 600m. IT1CALA Dernière mise à jour 18/06/2021 2 / 29 JOUR 5 Boucle autour de Bova. Visite historique et archéologique du centre de Bova. Un des plus beaux villages d'Italie (ruelles, églises, palais, ruines du château normand). Pendant la visite nous rencontrerons des anciens qui parlent encore la langue d'Homère. Petite balade en boucle autour de Bova et pique-nique « spécial » avec nos amis calabrais. Retour à Bova. Temps de marche : 3h30 à 4h. Dénivelé : + 250 à 450m. JOUR 6 Bova - Amendolea. Randonnée en descente sur le versant sud de l'Aspromonte avec des vues extraordinaires sur les « fiumare », ces lits de torrents intermittents caillouteux impressionnants par leurs largeurs, et la mer Ionienne. Nous parviendrons ainsi à Condofuri d'Amendolea à l'agriturismo "Il Bergamotto. Visite de l'exploitation productrice de la bergamote, agrume qui ne pousse que dans cette région et utilisé en parfumerie et cosmétologie mais aussi en pâtisserie. L'après-midi, bourg médiéval de Pentedattilo, blotti contre de curieux rochers en forme de doigts. Petite balade et visite de ce beau village dont les origines remontent au VIIème siècle avant JC. Retour à l'agriturismo. Nuit en chambres simples de 2 à 4 lits. Temps de marche : 4h. Dénivelé : + 100m / - 700m. JOUR 7 Amendolea - Reggio Calabria (ou Lamezia Terme). Retour sur Reggio Calabria, visite possible selon vos horaires de vols. Transfert aéroport et vol retour. Ce programme est donné à titre indicatif. L'itinéraire pourra être légèrement modifié en fonction des conditions climatiques ou d'aléas indépendants de notre volonté. Le programme du premier et du dernier jour devra être adapté aux heures d'arrivée et de départ de l'avion. The towns are Bova and Bova Marina in the ancient Greek part of Calabria, Area Grecanica. This is done by answering the research questions about how the urban structures are and what preconditions there are for public life and in extension social capital. This is also compared to the discourse in research about Calabria as a region lacking behind as well as the Greek cultural heritage. The thesis was conducted during one semester spent in the area and based upon qualitative research in form of observations of the towns, mapping, textual analysis and interviews. The results showed that the urban form of the two towns differ from each other because of their history and their localisation. Bova is an ancient town in the mountains that is separated through topography, and therefore conserved with many old structures but few inhabitants, suffering from out-migration. Bova Marina is placed on the coast of the Ionic Sea, south of Bova and connected to the region by train and roads, while Bova is mainly connected to Bova Marina. Bova Marina was founded as a town in late 19th century and expanded a lot because of the railroad. It is a town with inconsistent walking network, a lot of traffic and houses in bad condition.

Is this image true? This paper reports the first systematic archaeological research on Aspromonte, Southern Calabria. Archaeological, cartographic and air photo evidence suggests that people used the high mountains in all periods from the Neolithic onwards. However, early usage was low- intensity and probably for special purposes such as iron-smelting, charcoal-burning and logging; only in the Classical Greek period was there sustained effort at inhabiting higher areas. The real development of the mountains came in the late-nineteenth and twentieth centuries. From the 1920s onwards, there were large-scale, state-fostered projects for economic exploitation of forests, political control of territory, and creation of a recrea- tional landscape. These endeavors tied into modernist ideas of the state, as well as period concepts such as Alpinism and healthy outdoor recreation for city dwellers. Ironically, as soon as these modern efforts made the high mountains accessible, they were assigned a chronotope, and were reimagined as the exemplification of an ancient way of life. Il sentiero, facente parte del "Sentiero Italia – Calabria", è un percorso escursionistico che attraversando longitudinalmente la regione collega le aree naturalistiche, paesaggi, borghi, aree protette che da Reggio Calabria, attraversando tutto il Parco Nazionale dell’Aspromonte,ilParco Regionale delle Serre ed il Parco Nazionale della Sila giunge sul Parco Nazionale del Pollino. La valenza storica e culturale di questo sentiero, per i luoghi che attraversa e per le vicende che lo hanno interessato nel corso degli ultimi due secoli, prevarica finanche l’inestimabile pregio paesaggistico e naturalistico del percorso, il quale si connota per la spettacolarità delle viste, l’eterogeneità dei paesaggi e la biodiversità vegetale che contraddistinguono l’intero territorio regionale. Tale sentiero si colloca quindi sulla dorsale di riferimento della regione, è in sé l’arteria principale su cui scorre la storia indigena sia per quanto concerne gli aspetti naturalistici sia quelli culturali. Tuttavia nell’ambito del presente progetto si è individuato come obiettivo strategico quello di potenziare il valore storico, nonché naturalistico e turistico, del "Sentiero Italia – Calabria" , realizzando una rete di connessione tra lo stesso e tutti gli elementi caratterizzanti il territorio che attraversa. Il Parco Nazionale d’Aspromonte nasce nel 1989 per la tutela e la salvaguardia ambientale dei territori della sezione aspromontana dell’ex Parco Nazionale della Calabria, esistito fino al 2002.

Per questa ragione avevamo nutrito una certezza, che va però scolorendo ogni giorno di più, di un suo convinto rilancio della Consulta dei calabresi all’estero secondo il dettato della Legge 54. Attesa questa tanto più urgente dopo la cocente delusione dell’Amministrazione che l’ha preceduta che alle diverse realtà dell’emigrazione calabrese in Italia e all’estero ha di fatto impedito di svolgere il ruolo istituzionalmente riconosciuto. Abbiamo assistito all’avvilente sotterfugio di far spazio alla Fondazione calabresi nel mondo che pur destinata allo scioglimento come tutte le società in house della Regione, è stata prorogata di sei mesi in sei mesi fino a restare in piedi all’avvento del nuovo governo regionale che però sembra ora dare continuità all’andazzo già sperimentato. Non vogliamo – e mi scusi se mi permetto di voler rappresentare tutto il mondo dell’emigrazione calabrese, ma ne sento quasi l’urgenza avendo ricoperto, nella passata legislatura, il ruolo di Vice presidente eletto della Consulta, (Presidente, come sa, è per legge, il Governatore) - non vogliamo, dicevo, farci scudo, e qualcuno potrebbe insinuare, strumentalizzare, la gestione della Fondazione, finita ora sotto inchiesta giudiziaria per gli sperperi delle risorse europee cui ha attinto abbondantemente, elargendo, se sono autentici i documenti contabili pubblicati da testate locali, a decine di “collaboratori” generosi compensi, soprattutto alla vigilia delle elezioni regionali.

    THE GREEK-SPEAKING POPULATION OF SOUTHERN ITALY. 11 THE GREEK-SPEAKING POPULATION OF SOUTHERN ITALY. IT will probably be a surprise, even to readers of the Journal of Hellenic Studies, to learn that there are at the present day twenty thousand persons in the south of Italy who speak Greek as their native tongue. These people form two separate groups, composed of a number of villages or townships, one of which is found in the heel of Italy or Terra d'Otranto, the other in the toe of that country, towards the extremity of the modern Calabria, in the neighbourhood of Cape Spartivento, and about twenty miles to the south-east of Reggio. The language which they speak, as might well be supposed, is not ancient Greek; nor is it in any sense a lineal descendant of that which was spoken in the colonies of Magna Graecia; but, though it is essentially modern Greek, it differs considerably from the Romaic of Greece, and these differences are of such a nature, that it must have required the lapse of many centuries to produce them. There can be no doubt that at one time it was spoken over a much wider area than at present; indeed, within the memory of man it has died out, and has been superseded by Italian, in places where it had previously been in use. Any traditions which may have existed with regard to the origin of this people and the fortunes of their ancestors they have now entirely lost; and their history, as far as it can be discovered at all, must be reconstructed from casual notices in historical documents and from intimations contained in the language.
