One of the country’s main railway infrastructures worked until the 1970s in a village in southern Chile called San Rosendo. Today, only two trains pass by each day –one in the morning, and one in the afternoon. He wrote, “finally, something decent to cover.” The email came from Spinnerette , and it announced a new EP they were independently releasing, entitled Ghetto Love . We’ve been following Spinnerette on Antiquiet, starting with a retro review of the last Distillers album, through an appearance with Queens Of The Stone Age and Spinnerette’s first shows in October. I share the complaint behind Johnny’s statement- while all the hipsters are finding so much music to love these days, it all sounds like shit to us. We’ve had to resort to pot shots at fucking Fall Out Boy for fuck’s sake. But there’s this little EP, and another one from Cat Power that’s worth checking out. Ghetto Love is only four songs- Ghetto Love, Valium Knights, Distorting A Code, and Bury My Heart , all of which have been heard online and/or live. But the first two tracks are pretty hot. Bury My Heart is alright, while Distorting A Code is our least favorite. Check out the video for Ghetto Love: If you dig that, the complete EP can be heard and/or purchased here from Topspin (why it isn’t on iTunes, we do not know), bundled along with the Ghetto Love video.     Der Mann hinter Rockgrößen wie Queens Of The Stone Age, Arctic Monkeys, Chris Cornell und vielen mehr Produzent, Rockmusiker und Songwriter Alain Johannes mit neuem Solo- Album im April in Deutschland unterwegs. Wenn man sich fragt, was so unterschiedliche Bands und KünstlerInnen wie u.a. Chris Cornell, No Doubt, Mark Lanegan, PJ Harvey und die Red Hot Chili Peppers gemeinsam haben, fällt sein Name: Alain Johannes. Der in Chile geborene Kalifornier vereint derart viele musikalische Talente in einer Person, dass es kaum verwunderlich ist, dass sich die Liste all seiner bisherigen Kollaborationen wie die Enzyklopädie der jüngeren Rockgeschichte Kaliforniens. Alain Johannes ist nicht nur ein begnadeter Songwriter und Gitarrist, sondern als Toningenieur und Produzent mindestens genauso versiert. Bereits in der Highschool sammelte Alain Johannes mit den späteren Red Hot Chili Peppers Flea, Hillel Slovak, Jack Irons und Anthony Kiedis erste Banderfahrungen. Zu größerer Beachtung gelangte er mit der Band Eleven, die er gemeinsam mit seiner Lebensgefährtin Natasha Shneider und Jack Irons an den Drums gründete, mit der er mehrere Alben veröffentlichte und mit Soundgarden, Pearl Jam und Queens Of The Stone Age tourte, bis die Band sich 2008 nach dem Tod Natasha Shneiders auflöste. Als Songwriter, Produzent und Toningenieur hat Alain Johannes über die Jahre mit Größen wie Chris Cornell, No Doubt, Queens Of The Stone Age, Jimmy Eat World, Brody Dalle, Arctic Monkeys und vielen mehr gearbeitet, war Mitglied in der Band von PJ Harvey und Them Crooked Vultures, in der er als Tour-Gitarrist neben Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), Josh Homme (Queens Of The Stone Age) und John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) um die Welt reiste.
