Spinnerette Ghetto Love Ep Free Download Spinnerette’S Ghetto Love spinnerette ghetto love ep free download Spinnerette’s Ghetto Love. Johnny forwarded me an email last week. He wrote, “finally, something decent to cover.” The email came from Spinnerette , and it announced a new EP they were independently releasing, entitled Ghetto Love . We’ve been following Spinnerette on Antiquiet, starting with a retro review of the last Distillers album, through an appearance with Queens Of The Stone Age and Spinnerette’s first shows in October. I share the complaint behind Johnny’s statement- while all the hipsters are finding so much music to love these days, it all sounds like shit to us. We’ve had to resort to pot shots at fucking Fall Out Boy for fuck’s sake. But there’s this little EP, and another one from Cat Power that’s worth checking out. Ghetto Love is only four songs- Ghetto Love, Valium Knights, Distorting A Code, and Bury My Heart , all of which have been heard online and/or live. But the first two tracks are pretty hot. Bury My Heart is alright, while Distorting A Code is our least favorite. Check out the video for Ghetto Love: If you dig that, the complete EP can be heard and/or purchased here from Topspin (why it isn’t on iTunes, we do not know), bundled along with the Ghetto Love video. UPDATE: We forgot to mention- at their last show, Brody promised the full length album would arrive in February ’09. The photo at the top of the page was taken at Spinnerette’s show at Spaceland on October 29th. The rest can be viewed on Antiquiet’s Facebook page . Ghetto Love December 11, 2008 Independent. 1. Ghetto Love 2. Valium Knights 3. Distorting A Code 4. Bury My Heart. Reviews published prior to February 23, 2015 used a 1-5 star rating system. Spinnerette. It's been a while since Brody Dalle disappeared off the proverbial map. Since the 2003 release of Coral Fang from her former band, the Distillers, Dalle's life has dramatically changed. Now a mother and a divorcee, Spinnerette is a new path for the former Mrs. Armstrong, in both a creative and a literal sense. The Ghetto Love EP is short and sweet -- four songs of a dark, electro-infused, guitar-layered punk rock mashup that varies from song to song in its atmosphere and mood. The opening title track exudes a dirty party vibe, and it could be easily imagined as the soundtrack to an evening of excess spent in a crooked backalley basement party somewhere in the deep, dark underbelly of a grim, urban industrial landscape. 'Valium Nights' has the band sounding most like the Distillers, probably due in part to the presence of a non-electronic drumkit; but also, because the structure of the song follows a more traditional guitar-driven melody and without Tony Bevilacqua's Darker My Love-style guitars wailing in the background, the song wouldn't have been at all out of place on Coral Fang . A shock to the system follows with track number 3, "Distorting the Code," which sees Dalle's vocal raise in tone to near-falsetto. The track is undoubtedly dark, again tinged with electro instrumentation that is minimalist in form (including some nicely placed keys) as Dalle cries out hauntingly " I don't need the answers when I got no place to goâ¦ How do I find my way back home? " The familiar and welcoming sound of distorted power chords returns for the finale, "Bury My Heart," and again, while the dregs of the Distillers can be detected in this song, Dalle appears to be charting new ground here, albeit in her own way. Those expecting her to return to the music scene with an album of candid love ballads about her new child and love affair with Josh Homme will be disappointed, as she bleakly drawls " I've been known to waste sanity / I know there's nothing left In silence / I've been known to waste / It's a waste / It's a wave goodbye ." Overall, this EP is solid, interesting and at times almost challenging. Some will undoubtedly hate it, especially those who are acquainted with the earliest Distillers material only. Others, however, will inevitably love it. Dalle is clearly in a transitionary phase and it will be interesting to see the direction that Spinnerette take in the next 12 months, for it seems that in creative terms Dalle is seeking out uncharted waters, emancipated by the chains of her former project which she so clearly felt restrained by. Graceland (25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition) Bridge Over Troubled Water. It’s been about forty years since the singer from Joy Division took his own life, but the shadow of his death still hangs over post-punk, new wave and rock history. In just two albums, the cult band from Manchester turned grey skies, depression and urban industrialisation into beautiful music thanks to their charismatic leader, who is just as influential today. Fifty years ago, on 3 July 1971, Jim Morrison died mysteriously in a Parisian bathtub, survived by his three partners: Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger and John Densmore, who had worked tirelessly for six years to translate his dreams into music. From 2001, The Black Keys have been reminding the world about the real roots of the Blues, cutting away all the frills and unnecessary solos. Their music has always been untamed, abrupt and minimalist. Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney developed this unique style over the course of two decades, without once selling their souls to the devil at a Mississippi crossroads. Here are ten songs to prove it. • The Direct Action Politics of US Punk Collectives
DIY Democracy 23 DIY Democracy: The Direct Action Politics of U.S. Punk Collectives Dawson Barrett Somewhere between the distanced slogans and abstract calls to arms, we . discovered through Gilman a way to give our politics some application in our actual lives. Mike K., 924 Gilman Street One of the ideas behind ABC is breaking down the barriers between bands and people and making everyone equal. There is no Us and Them. Chris Boarts-Larson, ABC No Rio Kurt Cobain once told an interviewer, “punk rock should mean freedom.”1 The Nirvana singer was arguing that punk, as an idea, had the potential to tran- scend the boundaries of any particular sound or style, allowing musicians an enormous degree of artistic autonomy. But while punk music has often served as a platform for creative expression and symbolic protest, its libratory potential stems from a more fundamental source. Punk, at its core, is a form of direct action. Instead of petitioning the powerful for inclusion, the punk movement has built its own elaborate network of counter-institutions, including music venues, media, record labels, and distributors. These structures have operated most notably as cultural and economic alternatives to the corporate entertainment industry, and, as such, they should also be understood as sites of resistance to the privatizing 0026-3079/2013/5202-023$2.50/0 American Studies, 52:2 (2013): 23-42 23 24 Dawson Barrett agenda of neo-liberalism. For although certain elements of punk have occasion- ally proven marketable on a large scale, the movement itself has been an intense thirty-year struggle to maintain autonomous cultural spaces.2 When punk emerged in the mid-1970s, it quickly became a subject of in- terest to activists and scholars who saw in it the potential seeds of a new social movement.

  • The Long History of Indigenous Rock, Metal, and Punk
UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA Los Angeles Not All Killed by John Wayne: The Long History of Indigenous Rock, Metal, and Punk 1940s to the Present A thesis submitted in partial satisfaction of the requirements for the degree Master of Arts in American Indian Studies by Kristen Le Amber Martinez 2019 © Copyright by Kristen Le Amber Martinez 2019 ABSTRACT OF THESIS Not All Killed by John Wayne: Indigenous Rock ‘n’ Roll, Metal, and Punk History 1940s to the Present by Kristen Le Amber Martinez Master of Arts in American Indian Studies University of California Los Angeles, 2019 Professor Maylei Blackwell, Chair In looking at the contribution of Indigenous punk and hard rock bands, there has been a long history of punk that started in Northern Arizona, as well as a current diverse scene in the Southwest ranging from punk, ska, metal, doom, sludge, blues, and black metal. Diné, Apache, Hopi, Pueblo, Gila, Yaqui, and O’odham bands are currently creating vast punk and metal music scenes. In this thesis, I argue that Native punk is not just a cultural movement, but a form of survivance. Bands utilize punk and their stories as a conduit to counteract issues of victimhood as well as challenge imposed mechanisms of settler colonialism, racism, misogyny, homophobia, notions of being fixed in the past, as well as bringing awareness to genocide and missing and murdered Indigenous women. Through D.I.Y. and space making, bands are writing music which ii resonates with them, and are utilizing their own venues, promotions, zines, unique fashion, and lyrics to tell their stories.

Welcome to the March edition of Slap. I was hoping to say ‘Spring is in the air’ but I’ve just seen the weather forecast and it’s far from Spring-like. It really feels like it’s been a long winter of discontent with news of more venue closures almost weekly. The latest to go at the end of February was the Pig and Drum in Worcester which has been prominent on the local music seen for a few years now. Thanks to the efforts of landlady Rachel Cale bands from out of town loved playing there. We don’t yet know the long term fate of the Boar’s Mar 2017 Head in Kidderminster since Sid & Sandra announced they’re moving on in the summer, But I don’t think it’ll be the last to go. With business rates rises due very soon and so many people feeling the pinch, these places are really suffering. There are SLAP MAGAZINE rumours of other venues around the counties who may also be Unit 3a, Lowesmoor Wharf, shutting their doors soon. And It’s not just the music scene that Worcester WR1 2RS suffers either, many of these spaces are now multi functional art Telephone: 01905 26660 spaces as well as platforms for comedy, spoken word and poetry.
