Any non riders who are joining for lunch should arrive at this time. A minimum of two groups/pelotons, 8 to 12 riders, depart and head along the beautiful West Portland Road towards their first crossing of the Hawkesbury River via punt @ ~13km. From 13km to 35km riders will be on an undulating road on the aptly named River Road, enjoy the flow and vistas of the Hawkesbury River and classic Sydney sandstone overhanging this narrow section of road. Just before Wisemans Ferry, riders will have their first Rest Stop #1 @ ~35.4km - location Webbs Creek Ferry - public toilets available. Riders are able to access the twowheeltours support vehicle to pick up or drop off any extra clothing, refill their water bottles and access bananas or gels. After leaving RS #1 riders will go past Wisemans Ferry and head to the glorious Laughtondale Gully Rd Climb : ~42km > ~47km. As of Nov 2020, current KOM is 9:48 and QOM is 11:29. There is 100m of good gravel before the climb but once on the climb riders will feel like they are on their own private road. Save some legs during the 4.24km climb as you are on your way to half-way. At the top of Laughtondale Gully Rd, just before riders join Old Northern Road, we will have Rest Stop #2 @ ~46.8km. At RS #2, riders will once again be able to access the twowheeltours support vehicle to pick up or drop off any extra clothing, refill their water bottles and access bananas or gels. Note: on the major climb of the day, riders are ‘free’ to go up at their own pace. There is a designated re-group point at the top this section. From ~47km > ~51km riders will be pedalling along Old Northern Road, this is a busy section so riders will be in a ‘single-up’ situation. Just after Maroota Public School there is a right hand turn @ ~50.8km onto Wisemans Ferry Rd. Then after a few kilometres @ ~56km, riders will turn off Wisemans Ferry Rd and onto Cliftonville Rd. From that intersection all the way down to River Road @ ~63.4km, riders will be primarily descending. On the final ~1.5km down to River Road, the road drops -10% in sections, making for a fast descent. Riders are now back on River Road and going in the opposite direction to that of earlier in the ride. Riders are NOT to take that first punt but continue all the way to the end of River Road where it meets Sackville Ferry Road (SFR). Next comes the Minor Climb section named River Rd to Sackville Ferry Rd Climb : ~76km > ~79km. As of Nov 2020, current KOM is 6:11 and QOM is 7:43. It offers riders a last real chance to test their fitness. At the intersection of River Road and SFR we will have the last Rest Stop #3 @ ~79km. At RS #3, riders will regroup and then ride the final descent down to the Sackville Ferry in their group/peloton. Note: on the minor climb of the day, riders are ‘free’ to go up at their own pace. There is a designated re-group point at the top this section. Then comes the second and final crossing of the Hawkesbury River via punt @ ~83.6km. Finally riders will roll up to Cooks Co-Op, completing the loop ride and will be able to enjoy a cold soft-drink or water prior to lunch. Riders can then rack their bikes, clean up and put on some fresh clothes before sitting down to a well deserved lunch and speeches from Little Legs Foundation. Please note that Cooks Co-Op is BYO. Day Finishes : ~2:30pm *Please note that the itinerary is subject to change according to weather and other conditions Course Write Up - Little Legs Charity Ride.
