Festum Prophetae Festum Prophetae 200, 300, 400 & 600km Mixed Terrain Audax Rides Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th June 2018 Festum Prophetae or "The Festival of the Prophet" is a worldwide celebration of The Prophet, Eddy Merckx's Birthday. Please arrive by 5:45am for admin and light check. Please arrive ready for the lighting and reflective vest inspection. Lighting: The maximum ride time for all rides is outside daylight hours, therefore Audax lighting rules do apply. Lighting rules can be viewed on the Audax website (follow the links below). There will be an inspection prior to commencing the ride. Public toilets are available at the control locations. Cancellation: Should you have to cancel at the last minute, please send me a text message before the ride start. My mobile number is at the top of this document. A credit note for the full entry fee will be issued to you if you cancel any time prior to the ride start. Post Ride: Your brevet cards will be processed after the ride and then sent back to you. Therefore, when you have finished you may send the brevet card in the post (address is at the top of the document). In the event that we finish at the same time then of course you may hand the card straight to me. Terrain: The ride is a mixed terrain event so along with the usual sealed roads that we are all used to, there will also me many sections of dirt roads along the vein of the Strade Bianche one day Classic in Italy. This will certainly add an additional challenge in terms of bike handling. It would be recommended that you fit slightly wider tyres for the event for extra surface area/grip on the dirt sections. 28mm tyres would be ideal. All Rides include the monster 35km dirt ‘sector’ from Bucketty down to the small town of St Albans. As the distances increase the dirt sections get more and more epic. The dirt climb up Brush Creek Rd will certainly be the highlight of the 300km event. The 400km and 600km events also include the extremely technical dirt descent and climb through the Wheeny Creek Valley in the Wollemi National Park. The ride is certainly going to be adventure off the beaten track along some remote sections of road that most riders hopefully won’t have seen before A Note on the 600km Route: The 600km route is comprised to two large loops. The course returns back through Hornsby and is designed so that the rider has the ability to self-support. You have the option to only deviate a few hundred metres off course to return to your car to restock supplies if you plan to continue on riding through the night on the second loop. The checkpoints on the second loop are in locations with 24 hour services.     Act Three: The View from Above Scene One The DMR observer in the helicopter was Hal Gregge. He describes what it was like looking down from above: “Anything on a main road is our responsibility, so with a thing like the ferries, the buck stops with us. The helicopter pilot was called Noel and the fellow we were reporting to was Bill McIntyre who was running the workshop at Granville. That was our central workshop - we had all trades and 400 people working there then. We used to support all the ferries from there - they had riggers and people like that and we’d overhaul the ferry engines there. We used to have the patterns to cast the spider wheels, even. It’s all closed down now, though. Bill was organising ground support. He’s retired now. “By the time the helicopter got up to Wisemans, we found noth- ing there. Noel is a very good pilot. He did his training all over the world and has been under fire and everything, so we were able to fly quite low at times when we needed to. We zoomed in around Webbs Creek. There was a set of piers there that they normally tie the ferry to, but of course they were empty. We went around the corner to the piles for the other two ferries, but they’d gone, too. So we just followed the river down at a reasonable height. It wasn’t a bad day on the Tuesday - the flood was well up, but the cloud and rain were gone.

    Colo River Drive ~ Hawkesbury Region NSW Please acknowledge © Hawkesbury People & Places 2015 ~ www.hawkesbury.org This drive commences in Kurrajong Village, travels along Comleroy Road, then East Kurrajong Road, crosses the Hawkesbury River at Sackville Ferry and then proceeds on to the Lower Portland Ferry. The road then follows the course of the Colo River from its confluence with the Hawkesbury and on to Upper Colo where the drive climbs the ridge then descends again to cross the causeway over Wheeny Creek. After following the length of Comleroy Road the drive ends where it meets Bells Line of Road at Kurrajong. Distance: 71kms Note: Enjoy the drive but please take care as the route includes both tar sealed and narrow gravel roads. Road surface conditions are variable and are subject to change. Always adjust your speed according to the prevailing road and weather conditions. Distances are approximate. Driving Time: 2.5 hours plus allowance for two vehicular ferry crossings 1. Kurrajong Village to Stanley Park East Kurrajong ~ 14 kms From Old Bells Line of Road turn right at the traffic lights onto Bells Line of Road then left onto Comleroy Road. Continue for 3 kms then turn right into East Kurrajong Road. Points of Interest: East Kurrajong Road follows The Bull Ridge, a landform which runs from Comleroy Road corner almost to Sackville. The road winds through East Kurrajong which was an important mixed farming area during the late 19th and early 20th centuries famous for growing mandarins, apricots and passionfruit. The ‘Caselin’ early ripening apricot was developed in this area.

Need for the proposal The proposal is required to maintain a safe ingress and egress for pedestrians and vehicles approaching the ferry. Maintenance inspections indicate the existing ferry ramps are showing signs of degradation that could pose a safety hazard for pedestrians and vehicles. Without a safe operating ferry at Berowra Waters motorist travelling between Berrilee and Berowra would be required to detour via Galston, a detour of about 19 kilometres.

    20th Anniversary Edition 4, 2010 A REVIEW OF THE CLUB YEAR . The year has been significant in terms of the Committee’s achievements, much of which goes unnoticed by the membership. There have been changes to increase the efficiency of the Committee’s administrative procedures and restructure of some Committee duties to achieve a better distribution of workloads. The year was also remarkable for the abundance of major events noted below; 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE MX5 & CHRISTMAS PARTY. In a variation from normal practice, this event was conducted as a dinner dance with entertainment at St. George the Motor Boat Club on the shores of Kogarah Bay. Although bookings were slow coming in, the late surge ensured that the evening was an overwhelming success. NATMEET IX – McLAREN VALE, SOUTH AUSTRALIA, EASTER 2010. Around 30 of our members travelled to South Australia to participate in this event which is hosted at Easter in alternate years on a rotating basis by the State MX5 Car Clubs. We really enjoyed the camaraderie, the great MX5 driving, the Willunga Hill Climb, the Funkhana as well as the wining and dining in one of Australia’s premier wine regions. New South Wales did not win the State trophy this year, but shone in the hill climb with particular reference to Phil Ashton’s achievements. Full results were published in Club Torque. NATMEET 10 –EASTER 2012 - CANBERRA We will host the next national event in the National Capital.
