Married to Thomas Wedge at Christ Church in Geelong in 1852, she was 16, he was 36. He divorced her in 1877 in Tasmania. Her next partner was committed to a hospital for the insane, where he died in 1878. She married William James Alvan in 1879 in Fitzroy, Victoria. His real name was William James Burnham, and he was married already and had a wife living in England. They then lived at St Kilda, and moved to Geelong about 1885. She attended Aberdeen St Baptist Church. During the mid 1890's they lived in many places in Victoria. The Victoria Police were investigating William James Alvan/Burnham for a number of reasons (one of them bigamy). He spent 6 months in Geelong Gaol in 1897, and at or around this time she must have begun using the surname "Burnham", as when she died in 1900 her husband registered her death as Annie Maria Burnham.
