His Majesty Hamad of Meets with U.S. President Trump to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

U.S. President met with His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al of the Kingdom of Bahrain in Riyadh on Sunday during his visit to the Kingdom of . Both leaders reaffirmed the relationship between their countries.

His Majesty said in a statement that, “it has been 120 years of relations with the U.S. based on a very good foundation of mutual understanding and strategy that we worked upon and which led to great stability and prosperity in the region.” He stressed that the relations between the two countries were based on deep links in all areas and on robust foundations of mutual respect and shared interests and values.

President Trump affirmed, “Our countries have a wonderful relationship together, but there has been a little strain, but there won't be strain with this administration. We're going to have a very, very long-term relationship. I look forward to it very much - many of the same things in common.” The President said that Bahrain was an important strategic partner for the U.S. and that he was looking forward to cooperation at all levels. The King said Bahrain is keen on working and cooperating with the U.S. and the international community for the sake of the peoples of the region and their aspirations for development, security and peace. Both countries said they were keen on continuing their defense cooperation and agreed on extending their defense cooperation agreement.

President Trump’s decided this year to pursue a $5 billion sale to Bahrain of 19 F-16 aircraft and related equipment. The U.S. Chamber’s U.S.-Bahrain Business Council supports this sale, and looks forward to working with the private sector and governments of both countries to translate these mutual interests into more tangible business opportunities.
