DUTY STATEMENT

First XI

DATE: July 2016 STATUS: Three year contracted position with a one-year probationary period. PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT: Annually the position is for approximately six months, starting in mid-September and concluding in early April, depending on annual PSA fixturing. POSITION CONTEXT: Christ Church Grammar School is an Anglican day and boarding school for boys from Pre- Primary to Year 12. Located in Perth, Western Australia, the School overlooks the Swan River at Freshwater Bay in Claremont. Enrolments are comprehensive and at present are approximately 1650 students. This includes 120 boarders. The School consists of the LW Parry Preparatory School (PP to 6) and the Senior School (Years 7 to 12).

POSITION OVERVIEW: CCGS cricket program looks to develop a pathway for cricketers to develop under the direction of a quality program and coaches from junior to first teams as well as state and national teams.

The First XI coach of Cricket is responsible for the first XI side during the cricket season, which starts in September with pre-season activities and concludes in early April. The role is to guide the first team in their training, developing techniques and game strategies on match days.

The successful applicant will be a motivated cricket person who can demonstrate a broad cricket coaching experience. Highly developed communication skills will be essential to the effective development of players and other coaching staff.

LINE MANAGEMENT: The position is directly responsible to the Director of Sport (DOS) with oversight by the Director of Planning and Co-curricular.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The First XI Coach of Cricket will be required to attend all first XI trainings throughout the preseason and season along with all PSA fixtures.

Trainings are Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, matches are on Friday afternoons and all day Saturday. On average this will mean a total of approximately 20 hours contact hours per week.

Additional hours will be required during the preseason period when practice matches are scheduled prior to the Term 4 season and Darlot Cup season in first term.

The First XI Coach is responsible for the first XI side during the cricket season, providing technical support to the players on both training and match days including:  Create and facilitate training sessions to develop players within the first XI;  Focus on the development of batting, bowling and fielding skills;  Provide technical coaching and support where required to all players and coaching staff;  Attend all matches within the first XI fixtures, providing support for players during each fixture;  Assist players in game strategy development and implementation;  Directly liaise with players on a regular basis regarding their progress, injury rehabilitation, club and or state commitments;  Promote cricket within the CCGS community;  Encourage students to achieve in the sport of cricket;  Attendance at international and interstate CCGS Cricket Tours as required;  Oversee use and care of cricket equipment in conjunction with DOS;  Liaise with the DOS regarding issues as they arise;  Liaise with teacher in charge of cricket to oversee all administration of cricket.

KEY RESULT AREAS:  Design training programs to target development of individuals along with development of the team in consultation with the Director of Cricket.  Build a cohesive cricket squad who as a team, display sportsmanship and discipline in their pursuit of success.  Competitive result in the PSA Darlot Cricket competition.  Clear communication of the program, its expectations and the outcomes desired to both the players and the parents.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS This position requires:  All applicants must be registered to teach in Western Australia, have a federal police check and have completed a Working with Children Check.

The person must have:  Proven cricket background with minimum Level 2 NCAS coaching accreditation;  Motivated, well-organised and professional;

2  Prepared to make significant and regular time commitment to co-ordinate and manage the CCGS Senior cricket program;  Ability to communicate clearly with players and fellow coaching staff;  Highly developed interpersonal skills, the ability to build excellent relationships with staff, students, parents and the general public;  Excellent communication and organisational skills;  Ability to maintain confidentiality;  Exceptional attention to detail and ability to prioritise tasks effectively;  The ability to work under pressure and to demanding deadlines;  The ability to work collaboratively as a team member and independently.
