Prohibited items on Campus and in Residence Halls

No Weapons: Firearms of any kind are not permitted at Wilberforce University. This include: • BB guns, Tasers, Knives, Billy Clubs, Bow and Arrows, Pepper Spray, Mace Persons having these items within a radius of a school may be subject to federal and state charges.

No Alcohol, Smoke, and Illegal Substances: Wilberforce University is a alcohol-free (“dry”), illegal drugs, and smoke-free campus. Alcohol on-campus is prohibited, even for persons over the age of 21. Students may not have or consume alcohol in their rooms, common spaces, classrooms, or at campus-events.

Illegal drugs (including marijuana) and paraphernalia are prohibited on our campus. Please keep in mind we cooperate with the Xenia Police to encourage a drug-free campus. The possession of drugs and/or paraphernalia such as currency, scales, Baggies, etc. are considered offenses that may result in suspension or expulsion, and/or federal, state charges.

We are a smoke-free campus. Students, Faculty, Staff and Guests are not permitted to smoke (including drugs) on campus (including residence halls and rooms). Failure to comply regarding drug, alcohol, or smoke-free policy can result in suspension or expulsion as stated in the Wilberforce University Student Code of Conduct.

No Animals: Students may not have pets of any kind-this includes fish, pet snakes, pet hamsters, etc. in Residence Halls, Classrooms, or Common Areas. We find that students’ lives are very busy, and a college student’s lifestyle places the health and safety of animals at great risk. Additionally, many students have allergies and phobias of various animals; therefore we do not allow animals in the residence halls.

No Fire Causing Items: Students may not have any cooking appliances (microwaves, toasters, broilers, slow cookers, crockpots, hotplates, etc.) in their rooms, electrical blankets, space heaters, extension cords, candles, and incense. These items are major causes to fires and death in residence halls each year across the country. Students who have these items are subject to significant fines and disciplinary charges.

Students may not cover or alter fire alarms, detectors, or extinguishers. Students who do so will be fined $1000.00, will loose their housing privileges, and be removed from Wilberforce University housing immediately, with no housing refund. Students living in a community setting who do not report the violation, are subject to the same expectations. The destruction of these items places the safety of our students at significant risk, and the institution at risk with code enforcement, therefore we will not tolerate behavior that hinders the safety of our community.
