SCUBA Alpena

ESSENTIAL AND EQUIPMENT LIST

The HWH SCUBA program allows young men to become PADI certified open divers. Campers spend the first two weeks enjoying both in camp activities and learning dive techniques from a PADI certified diving instructor. Then it’s off to Alpena, MI for some great diving in Lake Huron, culminating with three days of boat diving in the spectacular Thunderbay National Marine Sanctuary of Lake Huron. HWH also offers PADI certification in several different advanced SCUBA courses (see below). Campers provide their own mask, fins, and snorkel. They have the option of providing their own 7 mm , , gloves, and or they may choose to rent these items from camp. Camp does provide all tanks, regulators, and any other associated dive equipment.

This list is detailed and specific for the SCUBA trip. Please read through the list carefully. Trip Equipment SCUBA and Advanced SCUBA require AN ADDITIONAL $65 in their camp store to cover laundry and additional trip expenses. ***7 mm wet suit ***Neoprene booties, SCUBA hood, Diving gloves Waterproof Small calculator Duffel bag or backpack to pack personnel gear for the trip (you will not be backpacking – this is just for storage!) Beach towel The following items should be purchased from a local dive shop or dive gear website. Masks, fins and bags available at sporting goods stores and big box stores are not appropriate for SCUBA. They will not perform as required. If you purchase online, I recommend calling or emailing the website for advice. They are usually very helpful. Mask: Mask must have a silicone , tempered glass lens(es) and a good seal; keep it simple, please no purge valves Fins: must be open at the heel with a strap and should be large enough to fit over 5-7mm neoprene boots – no full foot fins. Snorkel: a regular snorkel with flexible, corrugated lower section. should not be big and bulky. Will be attached to the mask with a strap/clip. Mesh Dive Bag: large enough to hold mask, fins, snorkel, boots, hood, gloves, wetsuit, regulator and BCD

*** Please note: You can rent the: wet suit, booties, hood and gloves from us at camp. We have an assortment of sizes. We will need your son’s: height, weight, inseam, chest, and size. The rental price for the full package is $150 for the full camp session. Call us if you have any questions. ***

Classes are taught in conjunction with your regular SCUBA program. You will receive a full refund

for any class that you are not eligible for or are not able to participate in due to time constraints.

Advanced registration allows us to anticipate the number of participants and have all necessary

materials on hand prior to your son’s arrival at camp.
