Laundry

There is a Laundry on site which will wash your son's clothing. The turnaround period is one day. There is also an iron available in the Laundry should your son wish to use it.

Our Laundry staff handles hundreds of garments daily and they do not have the time to search for labels sewn on in non-standard places, or to decipher frayed and faded labels. As such, it is the responsibility of the parent to ensure that all items of clothing are clearly labelled and positioned so as to be easily visible to the Laundry staff.

To assist the laundry in the timely return of your son's clothing, labels must be attached to the following items of clothing in the following places:

 Singlets, shirts, jerseys, - inside back, on the collar, near label  Underwear, shorts, trousers - inside back, on waist band, near label  Socks - at (not on feet)  Sports Gear - same as for shirts and shorts above  Towels, sheets, pillow cases, and duvet covers - on (open) ends

Sown in name labels are compulsory for every single item of clothing. These are more expensive initially but are cost effective as they eliminate the need for the replacement of lost garments and they have a long life. You should also supply the Matron with some spare labels when your son arrives at Tibbs House. We recommend Mark-it Woven Labels in Onehunga (09 622 2043) but there are many other suppliers. Laundry marking pens or ball-point pens are not suitable as they wash out in the laundry. Iron- on tape is also not allowed as these come off in the wash and some types of commercially printed tape also disintegrates after a few washings.

Boys can use small personal laundry bags if they wish however these are to be used for the washing of socks and underpants only. Additionally, the bags themselves must also be named.

All unnamed articles of clothing, or items of clothing left lying around the House are kept for one term in the lost property, and are redeemable for 50¢ per item - this fund is put towards a worthy cause. They will be held for pickup until the beginning of the new term - please check the bags in the Matron’s office when returning your son to Tibbs House at the start of every term.

The Matrons or the Director of Boarding will be pleased to provide you with any further information if required.

No responsibility can be accepted for articles which, for any reason, are not named or are unclaimed.
