Dear Parishioners,

What is the RCIA? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is a restoration of an ancient process forincorporating unbaptized persons into Christ through the sacraments ofBaptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. The process is also for those seeking full communion with the Catholic Church, those who have been baptized Christians but not Roman Catholics. These individuals make a profession of faith but are not baptized again. These candidates participate in a formation program, along with the unbaptized catechumen, to help them understand and experience the teachings and practices of the Catholic Church. All of this preparation culminates at the Easter Vigil. The Easter Vigil takes place on Holy Saturday, the evening before Easter Sunday. During this beautiful Liturgy, whichincludes the blessing of the new fire and the Paschal candle, the catechumens and candidates are presented to the parish community. Those seeking baptism then renounce sin and profess their faith and are baptized. Then, along with those seeking full communion, receive the remaining Sacraments of Initiation of Confirmation and Eucharist. Each year on Holy Saturday during the Easter Vigil, thousands of men and women are received into the Catholic Church in the United States. Here at Saint Joseph we have 7 individuals preparing for initiation. You might have been at a Mass where I dismissed them after the Liturgy of the Word to discuss the readings or maybe you have seen the poster board of them in Nolan Hall. I ask that you continue to pray for them as they enter the final period of preparation before joining us fully at the Altar of the Lord Deanna Samels grew up in the area and began to learn about the Catholic Faith when she attended Walsh Jesuit for High School. In addition, her husband and his family are Catholic, as well as her two children, so she is at Mass and involved with the Church quite a bit. This Easter Vigil, she will receive all three Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. Madison Eckely was raised a Methodist, but married into a Catholic family. Originally from Virginia Beach, VA, she, her husband Nick and their three children have settled in at Saint Joseph Parish and School, with her daughter MaKenna making her first communion this spring. Brant Llorens had two major influences that lead him to the Catholic Faith: his grandmother and the Horak’s! Brant lives in Cuyahoga Falls and works as a Dialysis Technician. Geoffrey Schott works as an EMT in, and lives in, Tallmadge. As a child, he attended a Baptist Church. He has been attending Mass at Saint Joseph since 2017, when he came for Christmas with his girlfriend and her family. Vanessa Turner started attending Mass with her fiancé, Joshua, and his family. They will be getting married at Saint Joseph next year. Marlet Frank originally hails from Mariental, Namibia, but has settled in Cuyahoga Falls! She began attending Mass at Saint Joseph with her then fiancé, Nick, in 2017. She and Nick got married at Saint Joseph last October. Chrissy Davis is a school mom that spends a great deal of time helping out for fundraisers, school lunches, and as room parent. Her husband, officer Ted,went to St. Joseph School growing up and he and his family have been parishioners and have been attending as a family since 2011. The St. Joseph family welcomes you and prays for you as you prepare to enter the Catholic Church. God’s Blessings, Fr. Jared Orndorff, Pastor
