I have latest drivers for my Creative Labs titanium sound card. I'm trying to isolate the problem. Disconnected my Roland UM-3G midi interface. Roland doesn't have a driver specifically for Windows 10. I'm using the 64-bit driver for Windows 7. Cakewalk X1 locks up too. Must be something with the sound card. I hope I can restore Windows 7. Since the above, I restored Windows 7 and Finale 2011 works again (whew!). Sound card and MIDI interface both work. (Haven't tried Sonar X1 yet.) Must be a Windows 10 incompatibility since hardware and drivers work with W7. With both applications the cursor froze in W10 and there was no way out except a hard shutdown. If I had the time, I'd get on the phone with Microsoft and try to isolate the problem. Or maybe MakeMusic could do that. your way.
