Qualification Purpose Statement 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Squash and Racketball (QCF) Qualification Number: 601/3843/9 Overview This qualification covers... This qualification has been developed in partnership with the National Source group for Squash (England Squash and Racketball, Scottish Squash and Racketball and Squash Wales) and is supported by employers and the industry. The qualification is designed to provide you with an opportunity to study and be assessed on both the theoretical and practical aspects of coaching squash and racketball. 100% of the learning that you will receive will support you in being able to do your job as a squash and racketball coach. The qualification is composed of eight mandatory units. Upon completion of the qualification, you will receive 18 credits. During your achievement of the qualification you will complete the following learning outcomes: Understanding the fundamentals of coaching squash and racketball Understanding how to develop participants through coaching squash and racketball Planning, preparing and delivering a squash and racketball coaching session Monitoring and evaluating squash and racketball coaching sessions Understanding the principles of safe and equitable coaching sessions Programmes of learning and assessment are normally three-days long and involve a mixture of practical and theoretical activities to support your development as a squash and racketball coach. You will be assessed on the completion of a series of planned and delivered coaching sessions (to both individuals and groups), as well as risk assessment and self-evaluation activities. This qualification is designed for... The qualification is designed to prepare you for employment in paid or voluntary roles relating to coaching squash and racketball. The qualification is ideal for young people, experienced current or former players, or parents with an active interest in the sport. You must be 17 or older to register for the qualification. You must also be in possession of a Level 1 Squash coaching qualification and be able to communicate effectively in English. Prior to completing, and being certificated for, this qualification, you must evidence the following: safeguarding and the protection of children and vulnerable adults (sports coach UK or NSPCC workshop) emergency first aid certificate which must include CPR (the course completed must have been a minimum of three hours in duration) home nation specific refereeing qualification full valid and appropriate DBS check. This qualification is included within the Coaching Pathway of the Intermediate Apprenticeship in Activity Leadership. The Apprenticeship is designed for those individuals who wish to gain a broad, but solid foundation to allow them to follow a career in the active leisure sector as fitness leaders, coaches and activity leaders. Roles covered by this framework tend to be more of a community focus, and apprentices tend to be employed in community settings as activity leaders, sports coaches and fitness leaders. In order to access this apprenticeship you must be employed within a suitable environment, such as a squash and racketball club or squash and racketball centre, for a minimum of 30 hours per week. It is a much longer programme than the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Squash and Racketball (QCF) and therefore is not suitable if you are intending to take up immediate part-time or volunteer employment. However you may not wish, or you may not be eligible to complete an apprenticeship; in either situation the qualification is available to you on its own from a range of training providers and on completion it will qualify you as eligible for employment as a squash and racketball coach. Following successful completion of the 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Squash and Racketball (QCF) you may choose to develop your skills by participating in continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities offered by the National Source Group for Squash and Racketball. Following a period of practice working in a performance environment you may wish to progress to the 1st4sport Level 3 Certificate in Coaching Squash (QCF). The 1st4sport Level 3 Certificate in Coaching Squash (QCF) may lead to paid or voluntary roles in coaching the sport of squash and racketball in a variety of settings including working as a head coach within an amateur club or working as a coach within the professional game. The 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Squash and Racketball (QCF) qualification may also be used to enable progression to other industry-relevant qualifications in coaching other sports, activity leadership, supporting PE in school sport and sports development.
