Notes 189 School Notes What's New Congratulations to MT and Mrs Graham on the birth of their first child, a daughter, Sophie Charlotte. Congratulations are also due to Simon Hi1Is and Keith Halsey for two weU-deserved Flying Scholarships, and to David Eccles on bis Army Scholarship. Various improvements have been instigated, and in some cases completed, around the schooI. Tbe Courtroom has been redecorated, and may soon be slightly adapted to serve as apart-time theatre, to satisfy the growing interest in drama in the schooI. Tbe Music School has had carpeting installed, which, I am told, will improve the acoustics, while the pavillon on Upper Field has been given a facelift. Tbe Boarding Houses have not been neglected, however: showers are being built on to Glyndowr, while at Waste Court, parts of the house have been redecorated. Meanwhile, the new Dining Hall is progressing weil: although the roof is not yet on, the builders have started some of the indoar plastering, tTUsting in the good weather. It should be finished and ready for use by Christmas. Many other minor repairs and improvements have been made, too many to mention, far which we must thank the Bursar's vigilant eye. Speakers mM laid on a one-day conference in the school for Sixth-Formers interested in computers. -

It has been a momentous year for Chipping Norton School and has fittingly ended with Ofsted judging the quality of education offered as ‘Good’ with an ‘Outstanding’ sixth form and ‘Outstanding’ personal development and welfare. TTE Co-Ordinates Drugs Focus Fortnight Across West Oxfordshire Schools
Case Study TTE co-ordinates drugs Focus Fortnight across West Oxfordshire schools across the WOLP schools taking part, deliver co-ordinated PSHE sessions on drugs for all Key Stage 3 to 5 pupils, follow up sessions with the School Nurse for those who wanted one-to-one discussions and three drug awareness evening events for parents. Dear Parents, Lenten Fundraising As Lent has now started we are now planning our Lenten charitable focus for the school. As many of you are aware last year I received the following email from Omar, an ex St Edmund’s pupil: I am a St Edmund’s Catholic Primary School ex-pupil (2004-2011). I am half Sudanese and I made my first visit to Sudan in 2009, when at St Edmund’s. Now, seven years later I am going to Sudan in December, for the second time. Now that I am older and more mature I realise how fortunate I am to have been able to attend two great schools, with great values and a wonderful sense of community. However, Sudan is a country in which there are 3.2 million children between the ages of 6 and 16 who do not get the opportunity to go to school. Therefore, I decided to take the initiative to try and make a difference, and so I am now in contact with one of the most disadvantaged primary schools in Khartoum, which is run by the Catholic Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco. However, the school is in the poorest area of Khartoum and neighbours the Mayo camp, and so it therefore, lacks resources and essential schooling materials such as pencils and exercise books. -

PROPOSED ADMISSION ARRANGEMENTS YEARS 7 TO 11 COMMUNITY SECONDARY SCHOOLS OXFORDSHIRE 2017 ONWARDS 1 Introduction 1. Please note that new text is marked in red. 2. The proposed admission arrangements meet the requirements of the School Admissions Code 2014. 3. All community secondary schools are part of the Coordinated Admissions Scheme for the normal point of entry, the In Year admissions Scheme and the Fair access Protocol. 4. A consultation is also being undertaken on the designated areas for Larkmead School and Fitzharrys School. The current designated areas for Larkmead School and Fitzharrys School are fragmented. The proposed changes are intended to create designated areas that are coherent and serve the interests of the whole of Abingdon and its surrounding area. 5. There are no proposals to change the designated areas for Carterton Community College, Wood Green School and Icknield Community College. Maps showing the designated areas for these schools are attached as part of the consultation. 2 THE PROPOSED ADMISSION ARRANGEMENTS FOR YEARS 7 TO 11 FOR COMMUNITY SECONDARY SCHOOLS FOR ENTRY IN 2017 ONWARDS In accordance with legal requirements children who have an Education Health and Care Plan that names the school will be admitted to that school. In addition those children who have a Statement of Special Educational Needs that names a particular 1 school in Part 4 of that Statement will also be admitted to that school. The oversubscription criteria for community secondary schools are shown below in descending order of priority. 1. Children who are looked after2 by a local authority within the meaning of section 22 of the Children Act 1989 at the time of their application and previously looked after children.3 The term “previously looked after children” refers only to children who were looked after but ceased to be so because they were adopted (or became subject to a child arrangements order4 or special guardianship order5). -
