The study takes off from hip-hop scholars Pennycook’s and Mitchell’s proposition of hip-hop as “dusty foot philosophy” which is rooted at local dusty ground while articulating philosophies of global significance. This study aims to examine what kind of spaces are these dusty streets in Tehran and how does Tehran’s urban landscape inform music making and music aesthetics. This study focuses on how notions of belonging, space, and place have been expressed by rappers and rockers both in their music making and their embodied use of urban spaces. Followingly it will observe how urban realities, urban space, and geographical segregation are perceived, challenged, and reclaimed through their craft. The study asks how underground musicians are debating questions of authenticity that have risen along music’s localization, and how musicians strive for artistic legitimacy which would verify their street credibility both within their local music scenes and wider society, as well as within global music community. -

INSS Insight No. 986, October 25, 2017 Soul Searching in Iranian Politics: Conservatives and Reformists After the Presidential Elections
INSS Insight No. 986, October 25, 2017 Soul Searching in Iranian Politics: Conservatives and Reformists after the Presidential Elections Raz Zimmt Since Iran’s presidential elections in May 2017, when President Hassan Rouhani was reelected for a second term, the two main political camps in Iran, the conservatives and the reformists, have deliberated their future directions in light of the outcome of the elections. While the conservatives have focused on analyzing the factors that led to their defeat in the elections, the reformists are reexamining the benefits of continued cooperation with the President and with moderates in the conservative camp. Following Rouhani’s sweeping victory and the significant achievements gained by the reformist candidates in the local council elections that were held concurrent with the presidential elections, calls for soul-searching have been raised in the conservative camp. The self-criticism and demands for change stem from the series of defeats that the conservatives have suffered in recent years, led by Rouhani’s victory in the 2013 and in 2017 presidential elections, and the reformists’ significant achievements during the parliamentary elections in 2016. The discourse in the conservative camp in recent months focuses on the widening gap between the conservative right wing and the Iranian public, particularly the young generation, which has distanced itself from religious and revolutionary values and no longer believes that the conservatives are capable of providing solutions to its hardships and demands. One prominent conservative critic is Prof. Amir Mohebbian, a senior political commentator and journalist who today is considered one of the leading strategists in the conservative camp. -

Soixante-Dix Ans De Chansons Pour La Palestine

Spending most of his career in the judiciary, three factors can explain Raisi’s ascendance: promotion by Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, an influential family network, and a knack for leveraging state positions to feed his ambition. Raisi has spent his career developing his image as an anti- corruption crusader – a selective crusade that does not target his close allies. In recent years, Raisi has emerged as a leading candidate to succeed the 82-year old Khamenei, -

The organization initiates, leads and promotes activity in the spheres of art and culture inspired by the values of the Islamic Revolution and in accordance with the official ideology of the Iranian regime. The Owj organization is tied to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and the content distributed by it is used to promote radical worldviews reflective of the position of the Iranian regime and the revolutionary current in Iran. The productions of the organization reflect a critical position toward the nuclear policy adopted by President Rouhani, deep hostility toward the United States, Israel and recently Saudi Arabia as well. The anti-Israeli and anti-Zionist activism of the organization includes, among other facets, involvement in Holocaust denial and production of movies and television serials that reflect anti-Zionist and even anti-Semitic views.
