Am sogenannten Kanada- tag (Canada Day oder Fête du Canada) gibt es eine Vielzahl an Veranstaltungen und es werden iden- titätsstiftende Symbole gezeigt. Aber nicht nur an diesem Tag ist die Identität Kanadas spürbar – einen wichtigen Teil dieser Identität macht der Sport aus. Kanada verfügt seit 1994 über zwei offizielle Nationalspiele: Lacrosse (im Sommer) und Eishockey (im Winter). Neben den National- spielen gibt es noch weitere für Kanada wichtige Spiele. Im Jahr 2009 wurden mittels einer Brief- markenserie Lacrosse, Basketball, Five Pin Bowling und Ringette als kanadische Sporterfindungen geehrt. Praktische Tipps Diese vier Spiele werden im Folgenden als Blöcke vorgestellt. Sie können einzeln oder komplett im Sportunterricht eingesetzt werden. Die Spiele lassen sich im Rahmen eines Sportfestes präsen- tieren oder können einen eigenen Gegenstand einer Unterrichtsreihe bilden (trifft besonders auf Lacrosse und Ringette zu).
