Borders, visions and regions The cross-border governance capacity of the Øresund Region How to improve the influence of cross-border regions Jens Bjørn Gefke Grelck Department of Human Geography Supervisor: Teis Hansen Course code SGEMO8 Examiner: Markus Grillitsch Semester/year: HT/2020 Abstract In recent years, cross-border regions have been challenged by multiple levels governance creating barriers rather than solutions to support cross-border spaces. This study aims at inquiring how the role of cross-border regions is changing in relation to their governance capacity. Governance capacity relates to actions, practices and visions of such regions. Through investigating a case study in the Øresund Region, the study analyses how the reorganisation of a cross-border institution leads to a new type of governance capacity. The empirical insights of the thesis were collected through stakeholder interviews and desktop research. In this case study, I challenge traditional state-centred views of space, and instead suggest that there is a need to change the national political discourse in order to benefit from cross-border regions. Among other things, the questions were related to typical underground stations, safety instructions and exercises, and technical systems, installations and equipment.

Located only one hour from Paris, 35 minutes from Brus- sels and 80 minutes from London, Lille could live in the shadow of its renowned neighbours. Nonetheless, Lille cultivates its own traditions which are not less eminent than those of the neighbours. Before becoming a French city, Lille has been under Flemish, Burgundian and then Spanish ru- le. Due to its rich history, Lille possesses an outstanding architectural heritage. It was a merchant town in the Middle Age, citadel at the time of Louis XIV, industrial centre in the 19th century and ambitious quickly developing city in the 20th century. Nowadays the city preserves the relics of its past while looking at the future. Lille is a land of exchanges, cros- sing cultures and migrations. Launch of Hyderabad Metro Network
PRESS RELEASE Paris, 30 November, 2017 Keolis begins new metro operation in Hyderabad (India) On 29 November, 2017, Keolis has begun its first passenger services on an initial 30km section of a new automated metro network in Hyderabad, India. Expected to carry 1.3 million passengers daily when fully operational, the Hyderabad metro will help to reduce road congestion and boost the local economy. This new metro service in Hyderabad reinforces Keolis’ international expertise and leadership in automated metro operations and maintenance. Keolis has begun operating the first section of a new automated metro network in Hyderabad, India. The initial section of the network covers 30km, from Myapur to Ameerpet and on from Ameerpet to Nagole. The additional sections will open in the next few years, delivering an impressive network 68 km in length, with three lines and 65 stations. To mark the occasion, an official opening ceremony was held on 28 November at Miyapur station in the presence of the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. Hyderabad is the thriving capital of southern India’s Telangana state and has a population of nearly 10 million people. The new metro project is a Telangana State Government initiative to support improvements to the city’s public transport and its long-term economic and social development. With this new network the city can now boast the longest overhead metro line in the world and when finally complete it will also have the second largest metro system in India. The Hyderabad metro network is equipped with CBTC1 technology, which allows for higher frequencies and speeds for passenger journeys.
