Scientists from four BRICS countries to carry out genomic sequencing and mathematical modelling of the COVID-19 pandemic
Indian Scientists, in partnership with Scientists from China, Russia and Brazil, will carry out genomic sequencing of SARS-CoV-2 and studies on the epidemiology and mathematical modelling of the COVID-19 pandemic. This will help trace genetic mutations, recombinations as well as distribution of the virus and also make projections about the future of its spread. A whole-genome sequencing is required for identification of genetic mutations and recombinations of the virus, while epidemiological studies can help assess its distribution. Mathematical modelling is required to assess its future spread. Details: https://pib.gov.in/PressReleseDetailm.aspx?PRID=1743069

Union Health Ministry has highlighted need for all states to monitor district wise cases and deaths on a daily basis
MoHFW has advised States and UTs through formal communications, video conferences and through deployment of Central teams for recording of deaths in accordance with prescribed guidelines
Robustness of statute based Civil Registration System (CRS) ensures proper recording of births and deaths in the country
There have been some speculative media reports inferring undercounting of COVID-19 deaths from eight states, while also stating that the deaths can only be estimated and the exact data may never be known. The report highlights data from the Civil Registration System (CRS) and Health Management Information System (HMIS) including all-cause death numbers, leading to erroneous inferences terming it as ‘counting the uncounted.’ It is clarified that given the robust and statute-based Death Registration System in India, while some cases could go undetected as per the principles of Infectious Disease & its management, missing out on deaths is completely unlikely. This could also be seen in the case fatality rate, which as on 31st December 2020 stood at 1.45% and even after an unexpected surge observed in the second wave in April-May 2021, the case fatality rate today stands at 1.34%. https://pib.gov.in/PressReleseDetail.aspx?PRID=1742117 7/12 8/5/2021 Press Information Bureau Details: https://pib.gov.in/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=1742216 PM to interact with beneficiaries of Pradhan MantriGaribKalyan Anna Yojana in Uttar Pradesh on 5th August

No poor will sleep hungry" - The Prime Minister
Beneficiaries getting almost double the earlier amount of ration after Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana started: PM
More than 80 crore people getting free ration during the pandemic with an expenditure of more than 2 lakh crore rupees: PM
No citizen went hungry despite the biggest calamity of the century: PM
Empowerment of the poor is being given top priority today: PM
The Prime Minister pointed out that after independence, almost every government talked about providing cheap food to the poor. The scope and budget of cheap ration schemes increased year after year, but the effect it should have had remained limited. The country's food stocks kept increasing, but starvation and malnutrition did not decrease in that proportion. One major reason for this was the lack of an effective delivery system. To change this situation work was started afresh after 2014. He said, using new technology , crores of fake beneficiaries were weeded out of the system and ration cards were linked https://pib.gov.in/PressReleseDetail.aspx?PRID=1741911 5/10 8/4/2021 Press Information Bureau to Aadhar cards. This helped in ensuring that no citizen went hungry despite the biggest calamity of the century when livelihoods were threatened and business suffered due to lockdown. The world has acknowledged the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana. Free ration has been made available to more than 80 crore people during the pandemic with an expenditure of more than 2 lakh crore rupees, said the Prime Minister.
