Chief Ministers of India - Roles & Responsibilities

 The Governor appoints and distributes the portfolios among the Ministers of the Council of Ministers on the advice of the Chief Minister.  Being the head of the Council of Ministers, he presides over the meetings of the Council of Ministers and the Cabinet.  Chief Minister supervises & coordinates the activities of different ministries based on that advises them accordingly.  He ensures that the collective responsibility is dealt with properly by the Ministers or not.  Plays an essential role in making policies of the State Government which is not against the public interest.  His decision is final in policy decisions of the State Government.  The Governor appoints different higher officials of the State Government on the advice of the Chief Minister and his Council of Ministers.  He has to keep the Governor informed of the decisions which are taken by the Council of Ministers on various matters.  The Chief Minister is the chief administrator of the State.  He is responsible for all the undertakings of the state departments.  He is responsible to maintain a good and harmonious relationship with the Central Gov- ernment.  He is responsible for the party discipline in the House.  The Chief Minister defends the ministers of his Council of Ministers from the criticisms of the opposition.  The quality leadership of the Chief Minister decides the success of the State Government.  The government will definitely perform well if our Chief Minister is strong, dynamic, and efficient.
