Chief Ministers of India - Roles & Responsibilities
The Governor appoints and distributes the portfolios among the Ministers of the Council of Ministers on the advice of the Chief Minister. Being the head of the Council of Ministers, he presides over the meetings of the Council of Ministers and the Cabinet. Chief Minister supervises & coordinates the activities of different ministries based on that advises them accordingly. He ensures that the collective responsibility is dealt with properly by the Ministers or not. Plays an essential role in making policies of the State Government which is not against the public interest. His decision is final in policy decisions of the State Government. The Governor appoints different higher officials of the State Government on the advice of the Chief Minister and his Council of Ministers. He has to keep the Governor informed of the decisions which are taken by the Council of Ministers on various matters. The Chief Minister is the chief administrator of the State. He is responsible for all the undertakings of the state departments. He is responsible to maintain a good and harmonious relationship with the Central Gov- ernment. He is responsible for the party discipline in the House. The Chief Minister defends the ministers of his Council of Ministers from the criticisms of the opposition. The quality leadership of the Chief Minister decides the success of the State Government. The government will definitely perform well if our Chief Minister is strong, dynamic, and efficient.
