STREET FOOD FOR ALL YOUR SENSES IN PHUKET TOWN THPKSF HALF DAY PROGRAM DETAIL Experience the delights of Thai street food on this tour of Phuket Town, which will take guests to small side-street stalls. Many of the food stalls have been run by the same family for generations; families whose ancestors brought their culinary heritage to the island from places like India, China and Malaysia, adapting recipes to suit the local produce available, and tweaking them slowly over time to please their customers, whilst absorbing other culinary influences in the process. During the walk, guests will explore a variety of food displayed on stalls and carts. Enjoy a Phuket dim sum breakfast served with scented smell of local coffee “copi”. Discover the concept of “khao kaeng”, local Thai food offered on trays, and learn about the various different kinds of curry pastes used in Thai cuisine. Continue the walk to the old Post Office Museum for a visit, then proceed to the historical avenues of the old town, grabbing a sweet roti along the way. Moving onwards, guests can delight their taste buds at a local food court with a dish of famous “Hokkien” noodles and some satay. After that, visit a small food cart selling ‘ar-pong’ -a fried crispy crepe, a local specialty not to be missed! Finally, the tour ends at a local downtown fruit market where guests will be able to sample the local tropical fruit and “khanom khai hong”, a round crispy snack. C. Scott O'Connor THE Chin Hills Gazetteer recorded the facts that Zo (Chins) and the so called Kukis were one and the same race and that Soktes, Yos and Kamhaus were one people. It further summarized the fact that all belong to one and the same Kuki race. Had the word Kuki been changed to Zo at that time, the right word for calling the various tribes and clans of the Zo race inhabiting the areas joining Burma, East Pakistan and Assam would have been answered a long time ago. This publication was rare for a long time and was not available to later authors on the various races of Burma. "There can be no doubt that the Chins and the Kukis are one and the same race, for their appearance, manners, customs, and language all point to this conclusion". The Chin Hills Gazetteer 1896 chap xii pp 135. "Sections of the Chins who have migrated into Burma from the Tibetan plateau almost in a straight line down south are to be found from the Somra Hill Tracts down Cape Negrais. The Chins, the people living in the northern Chin Hills believed then mostly that their foremost fathers settled in Cimnuai, Saizing from where they spread to other places in the Chin Hills. -

Thai cuisine 1 Thai cuisine - Thai seafood curry - Kaeng phet pet yang: roast duck in red curry Thai cuisine is the national cuisine of Thailand. Blending elements of several Southeast Asian traditions, Thai cooking places emphasis on lightly prepared dishes with strong aromatic components. The spiciness of Thai cuisine is well known. As with other Asian cuisines, balance, detail and variety are of great significance to Thai chefs. Thai food is known for its balance of three to four fundamental taste senses in each dish or the overall meal: sour, sweet, salty, and bitter.[1] Influences Although popularly considered a single cuisine, Thai cuisine is more accurately described as four regional cuisines corresponding to the four main regions of the country: Northern, Northeastern (or Isan), Central, and Southern, each cuisine sharing similar foods or foods derived from those of neighboring countries and regions: Burma to the northwest, the Chinese province of Yunnan and Laos to the north, Vietnam and Cambodia to the east and Malaysia to the south of Thailand. In addition to these four regional cuisines, there is also the Thai Royal Cuisine which can trace its history back to the cosmopolitan palace cuisine of the Ayutthaya kingdom (1351–1767 CE). Its refinement, cooking techniques and use of ingredients were of great influence to the cuisine of the Central Thai plains. Thai cuisine and the culinary traditions and cuisines of Thailand's neighbors have mutually influenced one another over the course of many centuries. Regional variations tend to correlate to neighboring states (often sharing the same cultural background and ethnicity on both sides of the border) as well as climate and geography. -
