Penilaian Signifikansi Bangunan Candra Naya Dan Potensi Universitas Indonesia Library >> UI - Tesis (Membership) Penilaian signifikansi bangunan Candra Naya dan potensi pemanfaatannya = Significance assessment of Candra Naya building and its potential utilization Muhammad Hasmi Yanuardi, author Deskripsi Lengkap: http://lib.ui.ac.id/detail?id=20410765&lokasi=lokal ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Abstrak [ABSTRAK

Berdasarkan Surat Keputusan Pjs.

ABSTRACT
This thesis is discussing on significance assessment of Candra Naya building which related to its potential utilization and preservation. So, the research?s objective is to explore all the valuable features which Candra Naya building has. There are two perspectives of Candra Naya building establishment, in 1807 and 1867. Both of them are interrelated with two people of Khouw Families, Khouw Tian Sek and Khouw Tjeng Tjoan.

First perspective thought that in 1807, Khouw Tian Sek built Candra Naya building to make the acquaintance of his son?s labor, Khouw Tjeng Tjoan, who was born in 1808. Another perspective thought that Candra Naya building was built in 1867 by Khouw Tjeng Tjoan. His son, Khouw Kim An (born in 1879) had made Candra Naya building with significance valuable features . Khouw Kim An was a banker and an important Chinese personage in Batavia as well. During his life, Khouw Kim An had employed many significant roles in Chinese society, for instance, he was a co-founder of Tiong Hoa Hwee Kwan in 1900, a President of Kong Kwan (Chinese Council), a member of Volksraad, an executive board of Chung Hwa Hui organization and a Major in Chineesch Bestuur. He was the only remaining Chinese Major in the Netherlands Indies.

In the beginning, Candra Naya building was a residence of Khouw Families. However, it was rent by Sin Ming Hui association after the Indonesian Declaration of Independence. This organization ?s (Sin Ming Hui association) aim was to grant in aid for people who really need help after the war. It also had a social mission for Chinese society in Jakarta. In 1960s, Sin Ming Hui association changed its name to ?Perhimpunan Sosial Tjandra Naja?. After that, the name changed again to ?Perhimpunan Sosial Candra Naya? due to Indonesian fine-tuned spelling terminology in 1970s.

In 1994, a private company bought Candra Baya buil ding from Khouw?s legal heir family. Hence, Perhimpunan Candra Naya (Candra Naya Asssociation) moved the entirely activities to the new location. Khouw Family residence, known as Candra Naya building is located at Jalan Gajah Mada number 188, Jakarta. Now, it is only remained the main building. Many parts of its building had demolished even though there were many protests occurred from the historical and cultural heritage activist community.

Candra Naya building has been proclaimed as a historical building. It b ased on the Governor of Jakarta?s regulation in 1972 which is referred to the Netherlands Indies decree, Monumenten Ordonnantie 1931 as well as Minister of Education and Cultural?s regulation in 1988, Material of Cultural Heritage?s Law in 1992, included the decree of Jakarta Governor in 1993 which decreed that Candra Naya as a historical building. Thus candra Naya building has highly valuable significance.

Candra Naya building as a tangible and intangible material culture heritage based on Chinese philosophy values in Batavia. The s ignificance of Candra Naya building can be assess through aesthetic value, historical value, social value and science value while its utilization can be directed as ideologic, economic and academic.

The remained building of Candra Naya preservation can contribute in Chinese history, identity, and cultural understanding and development in Jakarta. Is l a m a n d C h in e s e n e s s Denys Lombard and Claudine Salmon It is worth pausing for a moment to consider the relationships that were able to exist between the expansion of Islam in the East Indies and the simultaneous formation of "Chinese" communities. These two phenomena are usually presented in opposition to one another and it is pointless here to insist on the numerous conflicting accounts, past and present.* 1 Nevertheless, properly considered, it quickly becomes apparent that this is a question of two parallel developments which had their origins in the urban environment, and which contributed to a large extent to the creation of "middle class" merchants, all driven by the same spirit of enterprise even though they were in lively competition with one another. Rather than insisting once more on the divergences which some would maintain are fundamental—going as far as to assert, against all the evidence, that the Chinese "could not imagine marrying outside their own nation," and that they remain unassimilable—we would like here to draw the reader's attention to a certain number of long-standing facts which allow a reversal of perspective. Chinese Muslims and the Local Urban Mutation of the 14th-15th Centuries No doubt the problem arose along with the first signs of the great urban transformation of the 15th century. The fundamental text is that of the Chinese (Muslim) Ma Huan, who accompanied the famous Admiral Zheng He on his fourth expedition in the South Seas (1413-1415), and reported at the time of their passage through East Java that the population was made up of natives, Muslims (Huihui), as well as Chinese (Tangren) many of whom were Muslims.

ABSTRACT The peacefulness of Candra Naya ancient building has lately begun to be disturbed again because of many kinds of polemics on printed and electronic media as well as on millis. This happens because there is a present decision made by the owner, namely PT Bumi Perkasa Permai to Indonesian Chinese Fund. It happens that at present this Fund wants to build Indonesian Chinese Museum at TMII (Mini Beautiful Indonesian Park) and that Fund makes a request that it is allowed to move the Candra Naya building to TMII so that it can be a part of the Museum building.
