INTRODUCTION LOCATION ART & THEATRE EXPLORE THE JAKARTANS CHINESE CULTURE AT CANDRA NAYA Candra Naya is an 18th-century historic building in Jakarta, Indonesia. A popular wedding venue during the 1960s and 1970s, it was home to the Khouw family of Tamboen; most notably is its highest-ranking member: Khouw Kim An, the last Majoor der Chinezen of Batavia. The building was made a cultural property by the city of Jakarta in 1972, by the Ministry of Education and Culture in 1988, and was clearly stipulated in the Law of the National Cultural Heritage in 1992. Travel time: 60 minutes by car. INTRODUCTION LOCATION ART & THEATRE REMINISCING IN THE HERITAGE SITE OF JAKARTA OLD TOWN (KOTA TUA) OLVEH building is located at Pinangsia, West Jakarta. The word “Pinangsia” is derived from the Dutch word financieel (financial), showing that the area was a business district in colonial times. The building was originally built in 1921-1922 for Dutch life insurance company OLVEH (Onderlinge Levensverzekering Van Eigen Hulp) and recently revitalized by the Jakarta Old Town Revitalization Corporation (JOTRC) in Kota Tua, West Jakarta. This location is an option for o-site meeting venue with historical significance; in this location, delegates can also enjoy Indonesian and Peranakan menu lunch at a special PREV area on Level 3 by Pantjoran Tea House - a 380 years old historical tea house nearby. NEXT Opening time: 11 am - 6 pm. Capacity: 70 people round table, 100 people long table. Meetings between 9 am - 9 pm could be specially arranged for InterContinental Jakarta Pondok Indah meeting delegates. Travel time: 60 minutes by car. INTRODUCTION LOCATION ART & THEATRE BE INSPIRED BY INDONESIAN LIVING LEGEND HARRY DARSONO Delegates are invited to meet a living legend and multi-talented designer Dr. Harry Darsono, Ph.D. who has designed clothes for world dignitaries including Queen Rania of Jordan and Queen Sirikit of Thailand, which his haute couture design was selected to grace the museum at Kensington Palace, London, England. In 1971, he introduced the term “haute couture” in Bahasa Indonesia which is “Adi Busana”, Harry was also the pioneer of “fashion museum” in Indonesia, where he then later founded the Harry Darsono Museum in 1996. PREV The museum houses thousands of dollars’ worth of bejeweled ball gowns, fine furniture NEXT and furnishings, intricately crafted accessories, grand pianos, and many collectors’ items which include the tiaras and fascinators worn by the late Princess Diana. Activities include a tour of the museum led by Dr. Harry, where he explains about his creations and inspirations on the design front; afterwards delegates can also enjoy an afternoon tea and pastries, and are encouraged to wear plain clothes in order to try-out the displayed haute couture pieces and the tiaras. His most celebrated work includes a series of "Rapsodia Nusantara", 24 virtuosic piano works based on folk melodies from a particular Indonesian province, is played by hundreds of pianists all around the world. He is also the only Indonesian listed in the book "The 2000 Outstanding Musicians of the 20th century" published by Cambridge in the year 2000. PREV As if his accomplishments aren’t enough, he is also a recipient of "Dharma Cipta NEXT Karsa" from the Minister of Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia in 2014, and "Anugerah Kebudayaan RI" in 2015. We welcome our guests and colleagues to take part in working with the community by joining us in our Giving Back programs. We have partnered with Yayasan Emmanuel, a local foundation that partakes various initiatives including food program and mobile library for the orphanages, children with special needs and those who live in landfill areas. The 1-day program includes “Mobile Library”, where participants could donate, read books or teach underprivileged children around Jakarta; as well as “Food Rescue”, a PREV platform where participants collect and pack food and beverage leftovers, followed by NEXT distributing them to those in need. INTRODUCTION LOCATION ART & THEATRE RAISE HOPES FOR OTHERS IN PARTNER WITH HABITAT FOR HUMANITY InterContinental Jakarta Pondok Indah works with Habitat for Humanity welcoming guests and colleagues to participate in building homes for the ones in need. Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization that builds and improves places in partnership with future homeowners, volunteers, donors and partner organizations in more than 15 countries across the Asia-Pacific region. The 1-day program highlight includes a “2-in-1: Donate & Build” which cover 1 of 3 activities: house or school building foundation; walling or painting, these activities are between 6 to 12 hours. PREV NEXT INTRODUCTION LOCATION ART & THEATRE INVEST IN KINDNESS FOR HUMANITY THROUGH A THOUGHTFUL MEETING InterContinental Jakarta Pondok Indah welcomes guests and colleagues to participate in activities with Yayasan Cheshire Indonesia, also known as Wisma Cheshire which is a member of Global Alliance of Leonard Cheshire Disability, a non-government organization based in London which has worked with 257 homes worldwide. Wisma Cheshire envisions an inclusive society where people with disabilities can achieve their full potential as a person, enjoy equal opportunities in their workplace and be accepted into the broader community without prejudice. The half-day program includes a tour of the workshop to see the facilities and PREV handicraft making process, where guests can also donate by buying handicraft items NEXT available at the store. This activity is approximately 3 hours. INTRODUCTION LOCATION ART & THEATRE A MEMORABLE MEETING AT THE ICONIC JAKARTA TEXTILE MUSEUM The Textile Museum, houses a wide array of textile collections from various islands in Indonesia. Constructed in the early 19th century, it was initially a private house of a Frenchman, until July 28, 1976 when it was inaugurated as the Textile Museum by Indonesia’s First Lady, the late Madame Tien Soeharto. The museum exhibits various kinds of Indonesian traditional weaving such as Javanese batik, Bataknese ulos, as well as ikat fabrics. There are also exhibitions of traditional PREV weaving instruments and equipment used for textile production. In this location, NEXT delegates could participate in a step-by-step traditional batik making class, taught in a convenient setting.
