http://mcccc.act.cricket.com.au/ 1 Cricket Club 2015-2016 Year Book Marist Cricket Club’s Goals Mission Statement The Marist Cricket Club exists to provide an effective cricket support infrastructure for Marist students to play cricket and develop their cricket skills and interest in the game so that Marist is considered a successful cricketing school. Goals To provide all students at Marist with the opportunity to play cricket To maximise the level of participation of students who choose to play cricket To provide qualified coaches for the college's cricket teams To provide all players with the opportunity to be coached in all facets of the game To educate Marist cricketers in the etiquette of the sport and ensure that coaches and players play the game accordingly To develop all teams, and especially the First XI, into successful combinations where all boys are able to contribute to a team's success To keep the college and general community informed of the progress of its cricket teams To maximise the level of satisfaction students gain from playing cricket so they will want to play the game "next year" To assist with the running of junior cricket in the A.C.T. Our teams enjoyed success with over 60% of our eligible teams qualifying for the finals. This resulted in us winning: o 2 x 2-day premierships; and o 2 x T20 premierships. Our First XI team had a lot to live up to as they attempted to emulate last year’s team who went through the entire season undefeated (which I believe was the first time this has ever happened). They encountered several challenges throughout the year as they lost players to both injury and representative commitments. However, they were superbly led by Captain Ben Izzard and successfully defended their ASC title in which they were undefeated in all forms of the game. This included winning all 2-day games outright after the Christmas break. We were unable to defend our title at the Australian Marist Carnival but it should be noted that we were the only team to defeat the eventual winners – Marist Ashgrove. From a committee perspective: We made the move from the dark old ages of paper registration to electronic on-line registration. This went off with only a few minor glitches and has significantly streamlined the registration and banking process. We moved towards mandating the use of MyCricket from under 11s onwards. There are many reasons for doing this but the biggest benefit to me is that our boys will have lifelong stats that they can look back on long after they have hung up their whites. This season we dipped our toe in the water of introducing a specialist coach. We’ll review how that worked and we plan to expand upon it in coming seasons. Probably the biggest challenge we faced this year was the mandatory requirement for all of our volunteers to have a WWVP card. This has been a massive undertaking as we have more than 50 volunteers spread out amongst our 23 teams. Thank you to all of our coaches and managers for enabling us to fulfil our obligations. A huge thank you to Loretta McNaught for her guidance and assistance with this onerous process. Finally, just a few special thankyous. The first of these is to all of our parents, grandparents and family members for involving your boys in this great game. Without you, the boys wouldn’t be able to play. So boys, could you please put your hands together for all of those who helped: drive you to and from training and games. washed your grassed stained whites every week. and wiped away those tears when you were given out LBW for the first time in your cricketing career. Thank you to all of our coaches, managers, umpires and scorers. Junior sport simply cannot operate without your involvement. I certainly hope you will all be back next season. NEW ZEALAND – BLACK CAPS – 2018/19 & ICC CRICKET WORLD CUP 2019 The Club was honoured to have two members selected to represent New Zealand in the past 12 months. WER (WILL) SOMERVILLE and LH (LOCKIE) FERGUSON Will and Lockie – both bowling for Parnell Will, a dream Test debut 7/127 (4/75 & 3/52) and Test won Lockie, 21 wickets at 19.47 in the ICC CWC And Lockie selected for the WORLD XI, ICC CWC 2019 WILL SOMERVILLE Born in 1984, Will, an off spinner, made his 1st Class debut for Otago in 2004/05 for whom he represented till 2007/08. Then, whilst in Sydney, for NSW from 2014 to 2018. Will returned to NZ later last year, accepted a contract with ACA and joined Parnell. Selected for the Black Caps’ series vs Pakistan in the UAE in December, he took, in the 3rd Test on debut, 7/127 (4/75 and 3/52). This enabled NZ to win the Test by 123 runs and so take out the series. Will’s apparences for Parnell were limited but he did well for Auckland and was awarded Cricketer of the Year – the John Bentham Morris Memorial Trophy, the first Parnell player to be so honoured since Ross Morgan in 1978/79.

    THE EAST INDIA CLUB SOME ACCOUNT OF THOSE MEMBERS OF THE CLUB & STAFF WHO LOST THEIR LIVES IN WORLD WAR ONE 1914-1919 & WORLD WAR TWO 1939-1945 THE NAMES LISTED ON THE CLUB MEMORIALS IN THE HALL DEDICATION The independent ambition of both Chairman Iain Wolsey and member David Keating to research the members and staff honoured on the Club’s memorials has resulted in this book of Remembrance. Mr Keating’s immense capacity for the necessary research along with the Chairman’s endorsement and encouragement for the project was realised through the generosity of member Nicholas and Lynne Gould. The book was received in to the Club on the occasion of a commemorative service at St James’s Church, Piccadilly in September 2014 to mark the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War. Second World War members were researched and added in 2016 along with the appendices, which highlights some of the episodes and influences that involved our members in both conflicts. In October 2016, along with over 190 other organisations representing clubs, livery companies and the military, the club contributed a flagstone of our crest to the gardens of remembrance at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire. First, Ben Rae set ot to dominate the University attack and Ollie, opening in Ben Rainger’s absence, relished a chance to bat instead of languishing at 10 or 11 as he has had to do for Auckland A. – pity he missed out on his 50. Then Andy Lane and Brad Rodden rollicked along – some superb strokeplay as the photos show. To cap it, Giacomo, on Prem debut replacing the injured Dean van Deventer, clobbered 20 off just 7 balls to allow Brad to declare.

    58th SOUTH ISLAND PRIMARY SCHOOLS CRICKET TOURNAMENT 4th-8th January 2021 – Waimakariri and Selwyn Thank You to our GOLD sponsors Welcome to Canterbury Country On behalf of the Canterbury Cricket Association it is my pleasure to welcome all thirty teams to this, the 58th South Island Primary School’s Tournament to be played throughout Waimakariri and Selwyn. All South Island provinces have made the trip to our district for this week. As well as the players, it is a warm welcome to the coaches, managers, parents, supporters, administrators and sponsors of these teams. This is the fifth occasion that Canterbury Country has hosted this tournament and we look forward to another wonderful week of cricket, and the building of friendships. From this tournament over the past 57 years a number of players have gone up through the age grade groups to represent their provinces, and even on to the highest honours of representing New Zealand. Whilst it is healthy for players to have aspirations and dreams of playing for the Blackcaps in the future, I’d like to encourage all adults involved with this tournament to positively praise the effort the players put into matches throughout the week, rather than reverting to focusing on performances, stats and results. Playing in this tournament gives players the opportunity to represent their province and to play alongside players from other clubs or schools. The friendships formed in this tournament will hopefully be long standing as the players continue to play cricket into the future. A tournament such as this could not be run without the help of a large number of volunteers.

    Parnell Cricket Club Incorporated - Established 1858 Update No.152 - Out of Hibernation - Spring 2018 A new season is about to start - full of hope and expectation, runs to be scored, wickets to be taken, competitions to win. A parent provided this photo in 2014 – junior girls practising with Coach Jonathan. No Women’s Premier team then but we have one now! Annual General Meeting Was held on Wednesday, 8 August 2018, 6.30pm in the Mike Simpson Lounge, 32 Shore Road, Remuera – some 40 members attended plus Councillor Desley Simpson, Kit Parkinson, Chairman of the Orakei Local Board and Iain Laxon, CEO of Auckland Cricket. The Annual Report booklet, which includes the Accounts and Balance Sheet, is available for collection from upstairs in the Terry Jarvis Centre or, if you prefer, phone or email the Club Manager, Steve Hurdley (520 5933 or [email protected] . Life Members Elected at the AGM – Jocelyn Goodger and PeterSpeakman 1. & 2. Jocelyn Goodger with husband Brynley (Coach Ian behind) & Jocelyn at work on the Scorebook & Ipad 3. & 4. Peter Speakman and, as he is so often, at the nets with juniors JOCELYN GOODGER was elected a Life Member, just reward after scoring for our Parnell Premier team for over 23 years. Amazing service that is hugely appreciated by the players. And the Umpires, too – as Jocelyn knows the Competition Rules and they, sometimes, don’t! But not only for Parnell – Jocelyn has scored regularly for Auckland Cricket and New Zealand Cricket in all 3 forms of the game.
