http://mcccc.act.cricket.com.au/ 1 Cricket Club 2017-2018 Year Book Marist Cricket Club’s Goals Mission Statement The Marist Cricket Club exists to provide an effective cricket support infrastructure for Marist students to play cricket and develop their cricket skills and interest in the game so that Marist is considered a successful cricketing school. Goals To provide all students at Marist with the opportunity to play cricket To maximise the level of participation of students who choose to play cricket To provide qualified coaches for the college's cricket teams To provide all players with the opportunity to be coached in all facets of the game To educate Marist cricketers in the etiquette of the sport and ensure that coaches and players play the game accordingly To develop all teams, and especially the First XI, into successful combinations where all boys are able to contribute to a team's success To keep the college and general community informed of the progress of its cricket teams To maximise the level of satisfaction students gain from playing cricket so they will want to play the game "next year" To assist with the running of junior cricket in the A.C.T. Our team was young and inexperienced but tried their hearts out all season and exceeded all expectations by finishing runners-up to the unbeaten Grammar in the one day comp and were semi-finalists in the T20s. They have a wonderful coach in Peter O’Callaghan and the squad will continue to grow under his tutelage. This season also saw our squad travel to New Zealand for the annual Marist Cricket carnival. The Club had a continued partnership with the Tuggeranong junior cricket club. Some of our individual milestones included: 3 centuries (one of which was very close to my heart) 8 five wicket hauls 3 hat tricks 2 ACT junior cricketers of the week Our boys cleaned up at the Cricket ACT junior awards ceremony last week where: Sam Smith was rewarded for an outstanding season where he was named as the overall junior cricketer of the year; and 3 boys received spirit of cricket awards (one of which I will tell you about shortly). Some would judge the success of a season on the number of premierships won. If that was the case, we probably failed, as despite being in a large number of semi-finals, we were ultimately successful in winning one grand-final. However, I believe you need to look much deeper than that. I mentioned earlier that 3 of our boys received a spirit of cricket award. I’d just like to reflect on one of those worthy recipients – and apologies Bede for singling you out. Way back in August last year, Bede Cuddihy registered for what I believe was his very first year of cricket. Bede attended our grading day and was placed into one of our under 11 Friday teams where from all reports he had an outstanding season. Not long into the season, our under 12 div 2 Sunday team suffered some long term injuries that saw them struggling to field a team. An email was sent out looking for players to help out and Bede was one of the first to respond and ended up playing the entire season for this team. Bede’s story doesn’t end there. Our under 11 div 1 team was then a player short towards the end of the season as one of their boys was enjoying an overseas trip with his parents. Guess who

The abstract is typically a short summary of the contents of the document.] Edinburgh Cricket Club Junior Season Report 2015-2016 In the past 12 months Edinburgh Cricket Club has grown to become the second largest cricket club in Victoria. This has come about in part due to A LOOK a demographic surge in area but also, we like to think, because the Burra BACK AT is a great place for players of all ages to enjoy cricket. The number of junior SEASON teams has doubled in the past 3 years from 8 teams in season 2012-13 to 16 2015-2016 teams in 2015-16. The most exciting development this season has been the advent of our under 15 girls’ team. Women’s cricket at the Burra has been up and running for over a decade now with the woman this year taking out the WCCC North West Premiership. This season our number one priority was getting a girls’ team up and running. Slowly over the preseason numbers gathered and we just had enough players for the start of the ECA Anna Lanning Spirit competition, which runs on a Wednesday evening. Despite their ages ranging from 8 to 13, the girls quickly bonded into a team and before long were playing some great cricket. Word spread and numbers grew over the season so that next season we hope to have 2 teams.

I have lived to the age of seventy-one (hence the title of this work), and until some six months ago the writing of my reminiscences never occurred to me. Indeed had it not been for the fact of my meeting with an old friend—almost accidentally the ensuing pages would never have been written. Like most cricketers, I have unfortunately kept comparatively few records of my long career. Luckily I am possessed of an excellent memory, and with this and the aid of many an old volume kindly lent to me by various gentlemen I have been able to complete my somewhat difficult task. I have given a short sketch of the state of the national game at the time of my birth; how I learnt both batting and bowling when a boy ; have described my connection with Clarke’s old All England Eleven, and afterwards with the United; Vlii PREFACE. my visit with the first team to America in 1859; with Stephenson’s team to Australia in 1861, and with Parr’s more famous one in 1863; have given an account of my seven years’ residence in the Antipodes, and the close of my career after my return to England in 1871.
