Josh Fisher immediately had J Patel lbw – 42/4 but Lowens and Allen (latter released from Aces duty) dug in and added 60. The Skipper entered the attack, bowled a cunning full P and Allen dealt to it with a vengeance only to find Giacomo had picked up a stunning catch -102/5. Lowen, the Leicestershire 2nd XI bat who, for Loughborough University MCCU in 2016, had scored 66 and 55 in his only two 1st Class innings, carried on the fightback. Two lbws to Brad and then Lowen was snared by Aniket Parikh – Aniket’s first wicket for Parnell – 141/8 and it seemed all over. Not to be – first Stobart stuck for a while as did the rest of the tail. Then, after lunch, Ollie and Josh tidied it all up thanks to two further catches behind by Harry Miller – 10 catchesfor the match and 10 wickets to Ollie – outstanding performances: OLLIE PRINGLE 15.3o 6m 37r 7w and 20o 3m 63r 3w 25.3o 6m 100r 10w for the Match HARRY MILER 7 catches in AUCC’s 1st innings, 3 in the 2nd - 10 for the Match. PARNELL 300/9 Cam Gibbons 57 (103), Rory O’Brien 54 (109), Sam Klippel 61 (79), Cam Rope 51* Hugh Teesdale 21 (24), PAPATOETOE 151/10 (61) Hugh Teesdale 4/16 (12), Simon Walker 3/49 (13) and following on 198/7 Hugh Teesdale 2/17 (12), Cam Gibbons 4/28 (7) MATCH DRAWN = 1st Innings points to Parnell “VICAR” – COACH ROY GOODYEAR REPORTING At close of play on day one we had scored 300 for 9 declared and Papa were 14 for 1 wicket after 11 overs. An interesting day lay ahead! We soon had Papa 47 for 6 wickets but a hard fought stand of 60 runs prevented us from routing them as we had hoped. The wicket showed variable bounce but was slow. Wickets were shared with Hugh Teesdale bowling exceptionally well with a return of 4 for 16 0ff 12 overs. Simon Walker took 3 for m49 off his 13 overs. Razin worked hard on his return to us from Premier duty taking 1 wicket for 43 off his 15 overs. Mehul Chhagan also worked hard for his wicket, 1 wicket for 19 runs off 8.1 overs. Papa were eventually all out for 151 in the 61st over. We immediately asked them to bat again, needing 150 runs to avoid an outright. Hugh Teesdale produced another final spell of quick bowling taking 2 for 17 runs off his 12 overs. By this time the wicket was very slow and the bowlers were made to toil until an interesting bowling change, the Captain Cam Gibbons brought himself on to bowl and had immediate success with a fine caught and bowled in his first over, Cam ended up with the amazing figures of 4 28 off 7 overs!! Papa ended up with 198 for 7 at the close of play. A lead of 48 runs. We gave it every effort BUT fielding needs much improvement especially in the catching department!! A win’s a win as they say bit an outright would have better! Women’s Premier Reserves – T20 Champs. 10 November Round 2. PARNELL vs HOWICK PAKURANGA at Thos. Bloodworth Park 1. THIRDS – 4th Grade: 3 & 10 November Round 1. PARNELL vs AUCKLAND UNIVERSITY at Orakei Domain AUCKLAND UNIVERSITY 119/10 (51) Mohan Wali 2/39 (13), Ashwin Haran 3/22 (10), Elliot Pike 5/19 (13.3) And 157/9 Abhiram Peleru 3/22 (9), Peter Hickman 2/33 (14), Sam Petersen 1/32 (20) PARNELL 278/4 dec (66) Vishal Patel 69, Jack Crace 118*, Josh Milne 43* TO BE CONTINUED NEXT SATURDAY CAPTAIN ELLIOT JAFFE REPORTING: With first innings points secured last week, the thirds resumed on day 2 at 126/2, looking for a big score to set up an outright win. Overnight batsman Vishal Patel could only add 6 runs to his total before he was bowled for 69 (109). Matthew Vercoe-Curtis came in and looked settled before holing out to midwicket, leaving us at 149/4. The big partnership began as Josh Milne walked to the crease. With his partner in crime Jack Crace, the two put on a 129* partnership to give us a substantial lead. Jack’s innings was one of poise and elegance, with a touch of arrogance thrown in as he dismissed most of their bowlers to the boundary in bringing up his maiden PCC ton — ended 118* (120). The sheer alpha dominance of this partnership was also credit to Josh Milne’s form, where he established an innings of 43* (51) to support Jack ably. With a lead of 159 after batting 66 overs, skipper Jaffe decided to declare, leaving AUCC 57 overs left in the day to either survive, or set a total. With an hour to play before lunch, the new opening bowling combination of Wali and Petersen set about making a dent in the top order of AUCC. After a cautious start, the AUCC opening batsmen mental resistance broke, as they both departed first off the bowling of Petersen, then Wali to leave them 27/2. In the last over before lunch, Ashwin Haran struck a killer blow as he sent their number 4 back to the sheds LBW, making it 36/3 going into the break. After lunch, it was a case of hard toil for the PCC bowlers as Orakei Domain 1 turned into a road. At 67/3, the batsmen looked settled and ready to fight to survive. The introduction of Abihram Peleru and Peter Hickman swiftly ended this resistance, and proceeded to blow through the AUCC order and turn the match, where they eventually found themselves 96/9. With one wicket needed to achieve a well-earned outright victory with 22 overs left in the day, we felt comfortable the decisive punch was coming. However, the AUCC number 10 & 11 proceeded to pull off a Panesar & Anderson feat, where they survived out the remaining overs to end 157/9. Despite everything thrown at them — notably Sam Petersen’s express pace for 11 straight overs — we couldn’t finish the job.
