Lockie 5/45 – sensational 3 50th and then the rain came down – in Dubai of all places!!!! Lockie – Man of the Match New Zealand vs Pakistan 3rd ODI Match Abandoned, Rain - Series Shared 1 all But not before Lockie’s pace had the Pakistani batsmen weaving, ducking and having stumps shattered. His final over restricted the Pakistan innings to a gettable 278 when 300+ looked probable. Then rain – in the desert ……..!!!!!!!!!!!

Test Series About to Start – Will Somerville Called Up to the Black Caps

Will Somerville, Off Spinner photo Andrew Cornaga/Photosport Will, originally from Otago, but latterly New South Wales, arrived in Auckland and joined Parnell at the beginning of the Season. Still to make his debut for the Club, Will has been playing for the Aces with enough success to warrant his call to the UAE to bolster our Black Caps’ spin attack – very much depleted since the injuries to Mark Craig, Mitchell Santner and . Round 1. 3 & 10 November PARNELL vs AUCKLAND UNIVERSITY at Colin Maiden Park 2 AUCC 116/10 (38.3) C Lowen 44, CK Jasmat 20*, Ollie Pringle 7/37 (15.3), Ganesh Ratnasabapathy 2/44 (12), Josh Fisher 1/31 (12) – Harry Miller 7 catches as ‘Keeper and 190/10 (56.4) C Lowen 60, F Allen 35, Ollie Pringle 3/63 (20), Josh Fisher 2/55 (14), Brad Rodden 3/18 (7) PARNELL 248/7 dec (44) Ben Rae 29, Ollie Pringle 49, Andy Lane 64, Brad Rodden 64, N Stobart 5/86 and 59/1 (9.3) Ben Rae 37 (24) RESULT – PARNELL WON OUTRIGHT BY 9

DAY 2 AUCC resumed it’s 2nd innings at 42/3 and still 89 runs behind Parnell. Josh Fisher immediately had J Patel lbw – 42/4 but Lowens and Allen (latter released from Aces duty) dug in and added 60. The Skipper entered the attack, bowled a cunning full P and Allen dealt to it with a vengeance only to find Giacomo had picked up a stunning catch -102/5. Lowen, the Leicestershire 2nd XI bat who, for Loughborough University MCCU in 2016, had scored 66 and 55 in his only two 1st Class innings, carried on the fightback. Two lbws to Brad and then Lowen was snared by Aniket Parikh – Aniket’s first wicket for Parnell – 141/8 and it seemed all over. Not to be – first Stobart stuck for a while as did the rest of the tail. Then, after lunch, Ollie and Josh tidied it all up thanks to two further catches behind by Harry Miller – 10 catchesfor the match and 10 wickets to Ollie – outstanding performances:

OLLIE PRINGLE 15.3o 6m 37r 7w and 20o 3m 63r 3w 25.3o 6m 100r 10w for the Match HARRY MILER 7 catches in AUCC’s 1st innings, 3 in the 2nd - 10 for the Match.

Men’s Premier Reserve Grade – 2 Day Major Championship

3 November Round 1. PARNELL vs PAPATOETOE at Shore Road Reserve 1. PARNELL 300/9 Cam Gibbons 57 (103), Rory O’Brien 54 (109), Sam Klippel 61 (79), Cam Rope 51* Hugh Teesdale 21 (24), PAPATOETOE 151/10 (61) Hugh Teesdale 4/16 (12), Simon Walker 3/49 (13) and following on 198/7 Hugh Teesdale 2/17 (12), Cam Gibbons 4/28 (7) MATCH DRAWN = 1st Innings points to Parnell

“VICAR” – COACH ROY GOODYEAR REPORTING At close of play on day one we had scored 300 for 9 declared and Papa were 14 for 1 wicket after 11 overs. An interesting day lay ahead! We soon had Papa 47 for 6 wickets but a hard fought stand of 60 runs prevented us from routing them as we had hoped. The wicket showed variable bounce but was slow. Wickets were shared with Hugh Teesdale bowling exceptionally well with a return of 4 for 16 0ff 12 overs.

Simon Walker took 3 for m49 off his 13 overs. Razin worked hard on his return to us from Premier duty taking 1 wicket for 43 off his 15 overs. Mehul Chhagan also worked hard for his wicket, 1 wicket for 19 runs off 8.1 overs. Papa were eventually all out for 151 in the 61st over. We immediately asked them to bat again, needing 150 runs to avoid an outright. Hugh Teesdale produced another final spell of quick bowling taking 2 for 17 runs off his 12 overs. By this time the wicket was very slow and the bowlers were made to toil until an interesting bowling change, the Cam Gibbons brought himself on to bowl and had immediate success with a fine caught and bowled in his first over, Cam ended up with the amazing figures of 4 28 off 7 overs!! Papa ended up with 198 for 7 at the close of play. A lead of 48 runs. We gave it every effort BUT fielding needs much improvement especially in the catching department!! A win’s a win as they say bit an outright would have better!

Women’s Premier Reserves – T20 Champs. 10 November Round 2. PARNELL vs HOWICK PAKURANGA at Thos. Bloodworth Park 1. HOWICK PAKURANGA 52/9 (16) R Macmillan 2/3 (2), G de Latour 2/16 (3), K Irwin 2/5 (2) PARNELL 53/4 (10) Hetali Patel 23* PARNELL WON BY 6 WICKETS

Men’s Senior Grades – 2 Day Champs. THIRDS – 4th Grade: 3 & 10 November Round 1. PARNELL vs AUCKLAND UNIVERSITY at Orakei Domain AUCKLAND UNIVERSITY 119/10 (51) Mohan Wali 2/39 (13), Ashwin Haran 3/22 (10), Elliot Pike 5/19 (13.3) And 157/9 Abhiram Peleru 3/22 (9), Peter Hickman 2/33 (14), Sam Petersen 1/32 (20) PARNELL 278/4 dec (66) Vishal Patel 69, Jack Crace 118*, Josh Milne 43* TO BE CONTINUED NEXT SATURDAY CAPTAIN ELLIOT JAFFE REPORTING: With first innings points secured last week, the thirds resumed on day 2 at 126/2, looking for a big score to set up an outright win. Overnight batsman Vishal Patel could only add 6 runs to his total before he was bowled for 69 (109). Matthew Vercoe-Curtis came in and looked settled before holing out to midwicket, leaving us at 149/4. The big partnership began as Josh Milne walked to the crease. With his partner in crime Jack Crace, the two put on a 129* partnership to give us a substantial lead. Jack’s innings was one of poise and elegance, with a touch of arrogance thrown in as he dismissed most of their bowlers to the boundary in bringing up his maiden PCC ton — ended 118* (120). The sheer alpha dominance of this partnership was also credit to Josh Milne’s form, where he established an innings of 43* (51) to support Jack ably. With a lead of 159 after batting 66 overs, skipper Jaffe decided to declare, leaving AUCC 57 overs left in the day to either survive, or set a total. With an hour to play before lunch, the new opening bowling combination of Wali and Petersen set about making a dent in the top order of AUCC. After a cautious start, the AUCC opening batsmen mental resistance broke, as they both departed first off the bowling of Petersen, then Wali to leave them 27/2. In the last over before lunch, Ashwin Haran struck a killer blow as he sent their number 4 back to the sheds LBW, making it 36/3 going into the break. After lunch, it was a case of hard toil for the PCC bowlers as Orakei Domain 1 turned into a road. At 67/3, the batsmen looked settled and ready to fight to survive. The introduction of Abihram Peleru and Peter Hickman swiftly ended this resistance, and proceeded to blow through the AUCC order and turn the match, where they eventually found themselves 96/9. With one wicket needed to achieve a well-earned outright victory with 22 overs left in the day, we felt comfortable the decisive punch was coming. However, the AUCC number 10 & 11 proceeded to pull off a Panesar & Anderson feat, where they survived out the remaining overs to end 157/9. Despite everything thrown at them — notably Sam Petersen’s express pace for 11 straight overs — we couldn’t finish the job. While this was extremely disappointing, as we fully deserved the outright points, we can’t help but admire the tail enders’ efforts, and we go away learning a lot about ourselves as a team and bowling unit. Notable bowling performances: Abhiram Peleru — 9 overs, 2 maidens, 22 runs, 3 wickets Peter Hickman — 14 overs, 3 maidens, 33 runs, 2 wickets Sam Petersen — 20 overs, 9 maidens, 32 runs, 1 wicket.

FOURTHS – 7th Grade – Two Day Championship: 3 & 10 November Round 1. PARNELL vs TAKAPUNA at Shepherds Park PARNELL 323/6 dec (60) Wesley van Wyk 70, Eli Paewai 104, Lance Pooley 43, Hans Kariyawasam 25. and 130/3 dec (15) Lance Pooley 75 (47), Absar ul Hassan 25 TAKAPUNA 227/10 (55) Tim Konara 3/? And 116/6 (22) MATCH DRAWN – First Innings points to Parnell SKIPPER JAMES PARTRIDGE REPORTING: We headed into Day 2 with Takapuna 3 wickets down for 67 and hoped to finish them off quickly to enforce the follow on. However, our

opponents had recruited well for Day Two bringing a number of new players who could bat. However we had recruited as well with Absar Ul Hassan & Zac Essenhigh coming down from the 3rds. It was slow going as Takapuna held us at bay and we let a number of chance slip through our fingers until Tim Konara took 3 quick wicket and Lance Pooley, Ul Hassan and Khalid cleaned up the tail. Unfortunately Takapuna had moved within 96 of our total so unable to force the follow on. We still had a plan - we sent in Eli Paewai and Lance Pooley to try and score quickly and push for an outright. They moved at the rate of knots getting to 85 in 11 overs before Paewai fell for 11. Then Tim Konara fell with our score on 86. However Pooley was on fire smashing 75 runs off just 47 balls. Joined by Absar Ul Hassan who smashed a quick fire 25, we declared 3 down for 130 in the 15th over. So the scene was set we needed to take 10 wickets in 35 overs, early wickets were not forthcoming but we kept plugging away until Essenhigh get a break through and then Khalid took two in an over. 4 more wickets feel before we called it a day at 6:30, we had not got the outright we’d come for but we left it all out on the pitch and gave ourselves a chance. It was a day of missed chances in the field with us dropping 8 catches. What have we learnt from this match ?

• We have found a new opener in Eli! • Mohith’s pants need a new draw string! • Lance never shuts up in the field with his friendly banter at the opponents! • Catches win matches! • Han’s is a croc Catcher Men’s One Day Grades

3 November Round 3. PARNELL KINGS vs SUBURBS NEW LYNN 1A TCs at Eastdale Reserve 2. SUBURBS NL 247/5 (40) PARNELL 50/10 PARNELL LOST BY 197 RUNS

Obviously not a good day at the office for the Kings and, perhaps not surprising, no report received.

Presidents’ Grade

10 November Round 3. PARNELL vs EAST COAST BAYS at Shore Road Reserve 2a PARNELL 199/9 (35) Chris Laycock 50 (71) Sam 32 (20) EAST COAST BAYS 143/6 (35) PARNELL WON BY 56 RUNS SKIPPER CHRIS LAYCOCK REPORTING: We won the toss and asked ECB to have a bowl on a warm sunny day with a nice flat, hard Shore Rd pitch to bat on, a far cry from last weeks Vic Park mine field. We took a positive approach to the innings which was ticking along nicely at just short of 100/2 at drinks, until one of ECB’s elder statesmen Kevin took the ball. He was (at best) logging 50 kmph on the speed radar. This took us by surprise. We were very relieved when he finished his 7 over spell with 5 wickets and not many runs against his name. Chris scratched out an ugly 50 off 71 balls while Sam (32 off 30), John (23 off 20)and Robbo (25 off 20 n/o) kept us close to a run a ball total of 199/9. We felt like we had enough runs in the bank with 6 in form bowlers ready to go. Gormo (0-16-5) was again right on the mark, Robbo (1-22-6) reminded the ECB’s boys that they should look elsewhere for encouraging affirmations. Rudi (2-24-7) chimed in with impressive pace, fuelled by his earlier untimely dismissal at the hands of “Kev the destroyer”. Keith, Greg and Jay all bowled well with control and purpose. A tight(ish) fielding display was highlighted by a side on direct runout from Jay. ECB’s finished 143/6 after 35 overs. Notch up another win!

Adaptive Cricket Day

The annual Adaptive Cricket Day was held yesterday at Shore Road. Parnell CC, for the past 6/7 years has hosted special needs students from Sommerville Special School and it’s satellites. Rather sadly this year Pakuranga College’s Pegasus Unit was not able to attend being on a school camp at Rotorua. Nor were any students from Homai able to attend. However, some 70 students did come to Shore Road, the day was brilliantly fine and our Player/Coaches Jack Marston, Jack Crace, Hugh Teesdale, Ruchid and Zac Essenhigh introduced the students to cricket skills. They were most ably assisted by 30 Saint Kentigern Year 8s (many being Parnell members), and a most enjoyable day ensued – as the following photos show:

Jack Marston ran very enthusiastic groups Jack Crace had them batting

Throwing down the wickets – two down, two to go under Hugh’s watch

Zac had them running at his station Sommerville lads showed better catching skills than the Ressies or 4ths

Fielding skills being honed by Ruchid and the Saint Kentigern lads

Many thanks to Zac’s Dad, Mark, who barbecued and to his Mum , Amisha, and Jenny and Steve who assisted

Sausages were enjoyed by all – Sommerville, and Saint Kentigern lads alike

Saint Kentigern lads, too As the students head to the buses, the clean up

Finished and time to relax – Hugh, Jack M and Jack C – Ruchid was still cleaning the BBQ A most successful day - many thanks to all who helped , especially Ashwin Prasad, of Sommerville Special School and Duncan Grant, Head of Sport at Saint Kentigern Boys’ School who made the day possible.
