Specifiers & Installers Guide To TORSION BAR APPLICATIONS WELCOME Thank you for specifying Sauber Torsion Bars. By choosing us as your stability partner, you derive the following benefits: * Improved Stability * Stability is safety, and safety is our first concern. A Sauber Torsion Bar can eliminate unwanted counterweight, offering your users an extra safety margin. Because Sauber bars don't rigidize the chassis frame, they always provide a smooth, quiet ride. * Long Life * Premium bronze and galvanized components. Bushings guaranteed and replaced as/if needed for 10 years. 10 Year parts coverage when inspected at no greater than four month intervals. * Excellent Documentation * Our comprehensive applications charts, installation instructions and detailed drawings provide the vital information you and your installers need in an organized format. * Superior Support * Toll-free phone and fax service from anywhere in North America provides easy access to the resources of our organization through your personal company representative. * Lower Life Cycle Costs * Since it takes less time to mount our bar, its installed cost can actually be less than other alternatives. Sauber Torsion Bars are designed and built to last as long as your chassis. * Extensive Inventory * Our inventory power puts our bar on the floor just when you want it. Your production schedule can't wait on your suppliers, and with us as your partner, it won't. * More Choices * Underframe or overframe, nobody provides more installation options than we do. More choices mean a better fit for your particular application and less "customizing" on the shop floor. * Simplified Pricing * Sauber Torsion Bars have just four pricing levels: A, B, C & D 3/2014 Torque & Inspection Guidelines Page 1 Un-plated Zinc Plated Torque (ft-lbs) Torque (ft-lbs) Min-Max Min-Max Fastener Specifications & Application Information Spring Set U-Bolt Nuts 108-137 --- 1/2"-20 Grade 8 Bolts 96-128 --- 1/2"-13 Grade 8 Bolts 153-205 --- 9/16"-18 Grade 8 Bolts 137-184 --- 9/16"-12 Grade 8 Bolts 233-310 --- 5/8"-18 Grade 8 Bolts 191-255 --- 5/8"-11 Grade 8 Bolts 379-504 --- 3/4"-16 Grade 8 Bolts 339-451 --- 3/4"-10 Grade 8 Bolts 485-728 --- 7/8"-9 Grade 8 Bolts 893-1190 --- 1"-12 Grade 8 Bolts 48-67 (N-m) --- 12mm x 1.75 Class 5.8 76-105 (N-m) --- 14mm x 2.00 Class 5.8 117-163 (N-m) --- 16mm x 2.00 Class 5.8 231-319 (N-m) --- 20mm x 2.50 Class 5.8 399-551 (N-m) --- 24mm x 3.00 Class 5.8 --- 28-39 3/8"-16 Grade C Lock Nuts --- 63-88 1/2"-13 Grade C Lock Nuts --- 127-172 5/8"-11 Grade C Lock Nuts --- 218-295 3/4"-10 Grade C Lock Nuts Torque Assumptions & Important Information 1. Torque values are provided for lubricated bolts. For dry, unlubricated bolts increase torque values by 10%. 2. Values shown for Grade 8 bolts are based on alloy steel heat-treated bolts with a minimum tensile strength of 120,000 PSI. Nut values shown are for all metal prevailing torque "crown type" lock nuts. 3. If fasteners are encountered or used that are outside the assumptions stated above, the installer is responsible for determining the proper torque level based on the fastener manufacturer's recommendations. This information is intended only as a guide. Manufacturer's torque ratings should be followed at all times. Inspection 1. Check fastener torque at semi-annual periods 2. Check bushing condition quarterly. 3. Check weldments and casting conditions quarterly 4. Check items 1-3 before and after each stability test 4/2017 Torsion Bar Applications Chart Page 4 Overframe Rear Underframe Rear Underframe Front 1 Dodge/Chrysler D350/W350 - 1993 & Prior 8700-DB D3500 8700-D1B D4500/5500 8750-D1 Ford E350 Van F350 -
