The song credits were fixed early in the preparation for the single’s release, since only the corrected credits appear on the labels to the LP, Shut Down Volume 2, which came out a month later. had been credited on the first pressings of the song, “Why Do Fools Fall in Love,” by and the Teenagers. However, his name was removed on later releases. Santiago appears to have been the song’s true author, but despite a lawsuit granting him ownership, the publishing firm won an appeal.

The single first appeared in Billboard in the issue dated February 8, 1964; it debuted the following week and on March 21st it peaked at #5. That same week it reached its highest point on Cash Box – coming it at #6.

PS1A(east coast): The sleeve is cut straight across the top on both sides. PS1A(a) has a brown border. “Fun, Fun, Fun” is on top on the open side of the sleeve. PS1A(b) has a brown border. “Why Do Fools Fall in Love” is on top on the open side of the sleeve. PS1A(c) has a green border. “Why Do Fools Fall in Love” is on top on the open side of the sleeve.

PS1B (west coast): The sleeve is tab cut. PS1B(a) has a brown border. “Fun, Fun, Fun” is on top on the tabbed side of the sleeve. PS1B(b) has a green border. “Fun, Fun, Fun” is on top on the tabbed side of the sleeve.

Capitol’s printers had difficulty reproducing a dark brown color with consistency using the four-color printing process. Later east-coast copies tended toward dull green. Later west-coast copies had deeper green borders.
